It's not harder to learn, it's just that someone who generally knows the mechanics (aka: not me!) is basically guaranteed to curbstomp those that don't know them.

which means it's exactly like every other fighter!  Just without the 20 years of prior learning attached to most fighters.

Smash doesn't have people that are new to it.

(Which I don't actually know how to play...)

You what.

Edit - Joking aside there is some insanely important parts to playing Smash that new players don't get which skews it massively in the advantage to experienced players.  Knowing how to jump back onto platforms and how to do big knock back moves is pretty important.  You can't just throw the controller to someone and off they go like you are framing it.

We could theoretically get three PC setups going, if we have enough controllers. My PC setup has my main PC on a 20" and 24" monitor, one of which could be connected to someone's laptop for a second station. My main gaming TV (42" LCD) also has a VGA hookup on it, so we can hook up a second laptop there as a main PC station as well (will be good for spectating finals, etc.)

The 24" monitor for the PC setup is actually an HDTV, so if there's need for a second station for other consoles for the tournament it can be used for that, although we'll need an additional console to hook up to it.

Woohoo, I just realized wired 360 controllers *are* USB connected.  Tried it on my laptop and it works.  So my joystick and fightpad are available as PC controllers.

Also, we should probably actually schedule this for a specific time this time around, rather than just 'we'll get around to it' as we did with DLC2. Friday or Saturday, late afternoon/evening will probably be the best time for it, but I have no particular preference as to when myself.

Bumping this so we can finalize things.  Currently the list of games looks like this:

1.  Super Street Fighter 4
2.  Marvel vs Capcom 3
3.  MYSTARY GAME

And two of the following:  King of Fighters 98, Blazblue CS, Soul Calibur 4

Please respond with which two of these three you would prefer.

Soul Calibur or KoF.  I'm gonna support Soul Calibur more if I have to choose mostly cause of diversity.  I see a 2D Fighter, a 2D Team Oriented "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON" fighter, and MYSTARY GAME that can be anything.  Soul Calibur adds a little bit of extra variety.  For that matter, I would not object to Tekken either (even though its not on the list)

I'd recommend TvC as another game, except that probably not such a good idea with MvC3 in the mix (which is the same kind of game), so...yeah, just consider this a "ho hum" style statement.

KoF and SC.  SC because I think it is the best game.  KoF cause in the 4 years I have been there has not been any KoF played at DLC.

KoF and Blazblue. Lots of the DL who would be interested in playing has at least played the latter, and anything is preferable to Soul Cal to me.

KoF and SC. One I actually have familiarity with and the other, along with being more well-known, is one I'm curious to play.

Out of KoF and Blazblue, which one will consume less time? Because I want that one. :p

Meeple, can you clarify which two games you're voting for?  It actually makes a difference.  O_o

And while TvC is shiny, it's pretty ass as a competitive game.  I'll be glad to mop the floor with you as Roll on the side though.  ;)

SC and KoF; i thought that was clear since I kind of said that rather openly immediately, and the rest was me pointlessly rambling like I always do, but whatever...

Well, you said SC *or* KoF, so I thought you were trying to decide between the two.

Soul Calibur and KoF have won the voting, but since BB got a respectable amount of interest I'll just scrap MYSTARY GAME and include BB instead.

So here's the final lineup:

Super Street Fighter 4
Marvel vs Capcom 3
Soul Calibur 4
King of Fighters 98
BlazBlue CS

Get practicing, so you can claim the title of best fighting game player among a bunch of RPG players!
