It doesn't matter whether it's your first bite or your tenth - getting a bite at all means you're doing what you need to be doing, and you just haven't found the person to take it on with you. Managing to get bites more than once just means you're a good writer no matter what you're taking on.

But yeah, I totally dig how crushing it feels to have something personal let down like that. So does Andy: he had his first short story submission rejected and he stopped writing altogether for months. <_<

Back on the horse, etc.

Good luck. :)

Fortunately, this isn't even the manuscript I'm mainly shopping at the moment. I have about a half-dozen queries out on one of those solid, workmanlike novels I mentioned, and a couple of shorts looking for a home. Should I not re-mount the horse, it would simply trample me. ;)

OOC: How many pages is the completed manuscript?

778 the way I have it formatted in Open Office.

Probably around 800 in a printed book.

The length is definitely a problem. I wish there were a midpoint where it could be cut into a much more salable two books, but such is not the case.
Read my webnovel, Eye Opener, now available on RoyalRoad.

"General protest" scheduled for Wednesday by Occupy Oakland. They want to shut the city down.

Ugh. Sounds like a good day to play hooky and hole myself up in the apartment.

I met someone on the MBTA. I gather what I wore on campus today drew a great amount of attention. If this wasn't the location, then apparently walking around in the train station.

I happen to sit down on the stuffy green line only for someone else to sit next to me. I pull out a reading on Systematic Art, and they interrupt me. Happens to be an MFA student at BU. Also, has a place with free dwelling any time I visit New York, as a connection has a fellowship at the MET and is UVA's PhD program. Awkwardly pulled out my smartphone I'm inept at to get the digits and call her. I made a friend. (: She likes this really big green garbage-bag skirt I'm wearing.

Secondly, I have been in correspondence with this professor at UCSB. Has a fellowship at Harvard and is leaving in June. I will be very sad. He noticed out of all the students to attend his lecture, that I was absent. He mentioned this to me, since he caught me at the Romare Bearden Panel at Harvard this past Wednesday. On that same note, Gates Jr. is a very interesting person. Anyway! We chatted before going to see the opening of this new exhibition. Man, it's just been an invigorating week.

Henry Louis Gates Jr. A critically-acclaimed and highly regarded African American scholar who contributes significantly to the field of Black Studies. He's currently director of the W.E.B Dubois Institute, the oldest institute in America dedicated to research for/by/of African Americans. What's great is that he is still living. He approached me and hobnobbed for a second before the panel, but I felt him exuding too much spiritual pressure. I was so nervous that my vision got sort of blurry and I felt similar symptoms to altitude sickness! It's crazy, because he is extremely personable! He's not the UCSB professor though. I might also add that my quixotic-like socializing on the T was very lesbian.

You should undergo a training montage to increase your spiritual pressure.  Once you power up, you'll finally be able to defeat him in an epic battle.

I guess my training montage begins every weekend?

On a sidenote, I'm sharing this in this thread because I just think it's beautiful: http://vimeo.com/31158841

CT, have you seen a murmuration?

Starlings are invasive right? Who cares in any case. Beautiful.

I have seen groups of starlings/swallows before practicing and on their way with their migration flights but never as many as in the above. So no I guess I haven't seen a full murmuration before :(

Three wonderful things happened today that made my head larger!

So the path I walk to the T station has three red lights. I normally beat the traffic walking. What HAPPENED was, a guy kept telling me I was beautiful at every red light! Made me happy.

Another guy *just* said the same thing as he was looking for a voting place.

And another guy in the library said the same thing, though .. I'm unsure if he was talking to me (but I was the only person walking past him so.. )

Ah, I had a good day (: I haven't been told that in a while!

I use random stranger compliments as a barometer. When too many come from the weird/creepy folks, I know I'm getting too fat and/or depressed.

It's nice to be able to feel good about compliments. ^_^

Random stranger compliments serve to remind me that despite being horribly overweight I'm still in better shape then well over half the other people out there. Since all the ones I get come in the form of "wow, I see you walking down by the mall all the time. That's so far from here, how do you do that?"

Aways back, I moved out.

Then last weekend, I got my computer desk brought over and was able to set my PC back up.

Then this weekend I came to the conclusion that it was going to be forever before I got around to getting someone to put network cabling in so I bought a big ol' one and ran it from the kitchen into the office so now I'm online again.

Since I theoretically won't be spending all my hometime in the same room as the PC anymore, I will likely be active in chat even less than I already was (somehow). I guess I need to get a tablet or something.

Went to my 10-year highschool reunion on Saturday. Everyone leads more exciting/worthwhile/mature lives than I do. Would be nice if they didn't act like this was a problem on my end (or at all).

I bought Andrew a netbook for his birthday so he could write on the go without having to try and carry around his 17" gaming laptop that weighs like 10 pounds and has an unreliable screen.

It worked great for 7 days, and then had a fatal error. Something involving the harddrive, the BIOS, and NOT WORKING. None of the fixes I could find worked (skipping the OS reinstall, since it's a netbook and lacks an optical drive), so back to Target it went! We bought a new one. It was on sale for $100 cheaper than I originally bought it for, so woo!

Then it lasted 7 days, and had a fatal error. The same goddamned error.

Brought it back this time for a raincheck and a refund and, of course, they don't have any in stock.

Getting one from Amazon this time, to see if for some reason Target just got all the lemons or whatever. This is the last chance, Acer. Or I keel joo. :(

I really want a Netbook myself. I hate carrying around the big lappy when I travel home.

Your problem is Acer, there.  I had an Acer computer in the past and remember that exact same error.  Had to get replaced.  Then it had a lot of other problems.  Not exactly a reliable company in my experience.
