Le sigh, my Golden Week holidays are over and it's back to the slave mines~

On the plus side, Best Golden Week ever~
My friend from the States came to visit and it was her first time in Japan, so we did lots of tourist-y things. It was nice to experience the country again from the eyes of someone who doesn't have to /work/ in it everyday. Went to Nagoya, Osaka, and Tokyo, meeting up with friends in all three places and generally making a scene whereever we went. Lots of bars and clubs, though the most memorable ones were the Video Game Bar in Osaka (get drunk and play Mario Kart or whatever while cute maid-waitresses serve you) and the Dragon Quest Bar (Luida's Bar, I believe it's called) in Tokyo. We also checked out a few parks and museums while my friend went crazy with her camera. One of the more unique experiences was the Archery Dojo in the club district, specifically designed for getting drunk and then shooting arrows across a room. We actually went into the dojo sober first, and the owner was like "Are you sure you don't want to go out and get drunk and -then- try this?".

Oh, and it was Sakura-blossom season.

So yeah, go Japan for being awesome for a while or something. Don't take it like that. It's not that I like you or anything, I just happened to be in a good mood this week. Geez. </tsundere>

I was just thinking, earlier today, "Huh, it's been a while since I've posted here."

So I got into a car accident, apparently because it's universally unacceptable for me not to be complaining about something.

Awesome.

Hood is seriously warped/dented, back bumper is cracked and off-center, but that's really it. Car who hit us was leaking fluids, car we got bumped into just had cosmetic scratches. Andy's neck got tweaked, so now he has VICODIN, lucky bastard.

In other words, it was just a giant pain in the neck (in some cases literally).

No clue who's technically "at fault." California is a wonky state as far as collisions go. I may be liable for the damage to the car in front of me, but both me and the guy in front of me agreed I was fully at stop before the car behind me hit us (and that's what went into the police report). It could go either way.

The inspection at the body shop is tomorrow, so I'll know the details about insurance, etc. after that.

If you were fully stopped before being hit from behind, the person who hit you from behind will be at fault, even in a chain. I've been in a chain of 4 where everyone wasn't at full stop and that's how it came out.

Internship ended, new one's beginning. Funny story to relate about that.

I was having that first internship in a village about 7 kilometres away. By bike I reached it in 30 minutes, if I took the bus I'd spend one and a half hour travelling. It was patently absurd.

My new internship is at a school over in the neighbouring province, about 45 kilometres away. That's just not doable by bike. If I take the bus, it'll take me...

About one hour and thirty-seven minutes. I already knew villages had poor bus connections but this is utterly ridiculous. Still, I guess I can't complain, it means my travel time isn't that much and I can still make it by 8 AM. Going to be for kids aged 10-12, so I'm hoping that'll turn out okay; I'm really not confident I'll be able to be the teacher I'd like to be.

Supposed to invent some kind of introductory lesson to tell 'em a little about myself, keywords being "fresh, active, gusto". I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to compose a class for that, given I'm a pretty dull person altogether. Maybe I can give an RPG or anime class. Maybe combine the two.

The state of California. For having roads.

In accident litigation plaintiffs often sue the state of CA along with other defendants because of liability rules that mean that if the state is 10% responsible the plaintiff is allowed to collect 100% of the economic damages (read: money they would have made had they been able to work, but not medical expenses) owed from the state and the state has to go and collect the other 90% from the other responsible parties.

LD: I knew me having a good weekend was a bad sign. Hope everything's okay for you guys.

Yeah, I spent the weekend at a Magic prerelease. A week before, I managed to pull a $50 card (foil Sword of Feast and Famine) and managed to trade it this week for a load of cards worth about the same (but set to rise in price, while the sword will fall in price around October). Then managed to trade cards I got for about $5 a month or two ago for about $30 worth this week (yay for prices rising!) and, finally, managed to get a load of new cards I wanted that are likely to rise in price.
And I'm hoping to do the same again next weekend. Go go earning 'money' through TCGs (by which I mean earning more expensive cards but never actually selling them so no actual money)

Pending confirmation from the guy whose car I ran into (and the police report) saying that the only reason my part in that collision occurred was because I was hit, my deductible will be waived and I'll have no liability for the accident.

Additionally, I get to waive the under-25 driver's premium for Andrew, so he can rent a car while ours is in the shop for "free" (covered by insurance).

At worst, I get out of this having to pay $500 for the deductible. At best, it's all covered.

SO. RELIEVED.

Now to wait until tomorrow to see if the car is totaled or merely requires a ton of repairs...

1. Minor car accident
1a. Andy gets his neck/back tweaked
1b. Car is "totaled" according to body shop, pending confirmation by insurance company
1c. "Totaled" = <$4700
2. I'm stupidly ill for the first time in a long time
2a. I can't miss work - department's severely understaffed as is
3. Lost cell phone
4. Dog walker drops Tally because he's dangerous
5. Person for whom I've done contract work is flaking out on payment
6. DLC / Vegas monies need to be paid now (or 2 weeks ago) - with what money, who knows

I'd challenge God to stop with all the tiny trickle damage crap and just smite me, but he's busy planning for Judgment Day, which is in a little over a week and a half.

Death by inches it is.

... on the bright side, the end of the world not only makes my petty complaints look as petty as they are, it makes them downright prodigious. Who needs a car when the world is on fire, anyway?
