Okay, some background is needed on this story.
I work at a community support place in what is (statistically speaking) one of the worst areas of the country. We offer advice on a huge range of topics and the idea is that people can come in with almost any question and we'll do our best to point them to the right place. Naturally, some people end up having more problems than others, so there are a few people who are seen as the 'regulars'.
One of those 'regulars' came in yesterday when I was on my own in the office - we're always supposed to have two people around, but we had leaflets that needed delivering so the other guy was off doing that, leaving literally the moment this regular walked through the door.
So I go to see who's come in and see that it's her. Ah fuck. She asks if anything's going on in the local area, so I hand her a leaflet for an upcoming event and she asks what's happening here. I point out all the activities listed on the leaflet, and she looks up at me and says "That's not what I asked you about. That's not what I asked at all." She then wanders around the room for a bit, so I take the opportunity to get away and go back into the back office.
A few minutes later, I hear her calling out, so I go out to face the music again. This time, she's holding all of the leaflets for the event that were on the front desk and asks if she can deliver them to her friends. I explain that they're being delivered as we speak so there's no need to, and she stares at me for a bit, then pulls a small silver heart locket from her pocket, which looks like it has something written on it.
She then proceeds to walk to every corner of the room and holds out this locket, turning it slightly in all directions as though awaiting some kind of response. She then looks up at me, backs away to another corner, and repeats. This goes on for a while, with me waiting at the top of the stairs leading to the back rooms, until she eventually puts it away and begins backing away to the door, still staring up at me. I eventually start laughing and just say "Bye!", so she says bye as well, and I go back into the back office. I can hear her shut the front door and then hear her BURST OUT LAUGHING. From, like, two rooms away.
Man, you meet all kinds of people doing work like this~
