I have 3 so far and it is very hard not to buy more.

A reccomendation if you are buying loose leaf (which you surely are), Zero make very awesome teapots.

Man, I've been drinking Chinese milk tea for like the past 10 years >_>. It's gotten bad enough that I can't start my days without it. Otherwise, I'm half asleep most of the day. Which is needless to say terrible.

Still being a tea drinker > coffee drinker IMO. Coffee tastes bitter as hell to me and I really dislike it. If I need caffine, I go straight for my tea.

This disorder of mine is ridiculous sometimes. I've been all over the place the past few days.

Clearly I need more tea. (And I'm currently still a tea heathen, drinking pre-bagged green tea and yerba mate and all. I'm too lazy for loose leaf.)

Uh yeah I don't need tea every morning (I am far more inclined to drink it of an afternoon or evening anyway).  I drink tea for two reasons.  One is the taste and the other is because oh my god the taste.

I've always thought it was kinda funny to drink tea for a perk.  Drinking a tasty cup of tea puts my mind at ease, which is good for my concentration to be sure, but for kinda the opposite reason people reach for caffeine.

btw, if you want to try loose leaf tea without too much fuss (or a teapot), consider investing in something like this or this guy.  Friend of mine gave me the second one for Christmas, and it works like a charm.

That word you used. "Investing"? That is why I am still a tea heathen. I pay something like $3 for my box of 20 green tea bags. Organic bagged green tea. When I get rich enough that paying that for 2 cups of tea instead of 20 cups is fine, then I might consider spend even MORE money on delivery systems for said tea.

And totally missing out and good gods how expensive do you think loose leaf is?  After the investment in a tea pot it isn't that much.  If you are including the tea pot to get that value then you either need to drink more tea or buy a tea pot that doesn't cost thousands.

It's about $30-40/75g where I'd buy my teas. That's around $1/serving for the leaf alone. Then there's the tea pot and delivery devices - admittedly it doesn't HAVE to be expensive, but as you say, I'm missing out. I'd rather stick with my heathen tea, not knowing what I'm missing, and then have a TEA ENLIGHTENMENT than slowly wend my way up the tea ladder and get minimal "eh" improvement along the way.

(You know how I make tea at work? I put a tea bag in a coffee mug. I go to the hot/cold water dispenser, cover the tea bag with hot water by depressing the red lever, and steep for 1-3 minutes. As I said: heathen. The only point in my favor is that I at least drink /tea/ tea, and not, like, Lipton.)

Oh yeah, non-tea heathen life.

There have been some big changes to organization in the company. So, yeah, whatever.

BUT - my department has a new temporary director. And he's like the coolest boss ever. And now I have a mentor, and the department is doing things in a SMART way, and I am happy. Granted, it is early days yet, but anything that changes the management structure in my department is a leap in the right direction.

$30-40 for 75 grams?  That's like $200/lb!  A box of Twinings loose leaf tea would be something like $5-$7 for a quarter pound.  Even when I visited a snobby tea store in SF, almost all of the teas were well under $200/lb.

Also: glad to hear your work life is improved!  Hope it keeps up.

As for me, I'll be embarking on an internship next week when I start school again.  Pretty nervous and excited about it.

Good gods girl where are you buying tea?  Where is it and buy me some from there!  That is the kind of money you spend on a good White tea (which are divine), certainly not for a green like you are talking about getting.  That is like twice the price I have ever payed for tea.

I do tea at work the same way sometimes, but that is when I do indeed need it for the caffeine.  That is when you use 2 or 3 bags.

Late into this tea convo, but I was always under the impression that tea is not a coffee supplement, due to having significantly less caffeine than coffee. You would have to drink a lot of tea to get that caffeine boost.

When I do drink tea (want to be an avid drinker, but am poor), it's normally white tea, black tea or oolong tea that I get from an international food market. Every time I pass that tea store in the mall (with loose leaf like Grefter is mentioning) I never suck up the first punch of just going ahead and getting a pot and doing loose leaf. Maybe there is hope in the future . . . of tax returnss - hospital bill - iPod classic - neutering dear Roland.

Teabags can only do types of teas where the leaves are crushed/cut into small pieces, and as a result the tea from teabags tends to be dark and bitter, like English or Irish breakfast teas.  I hear this is because crushing the leaves means more large particles get into the water.  If you want a more - and I hate to use this word because it makes me sound snooty but oh well - delicate flavor, teabags can't deliver.  Teabags are perfectly fine for herbal/flavored tea, though.

Not to mention the increased cost of production.  You only get bags of the flavours that willcome off the shelves in a hurry which are again those strong bitter flavours (Which I am all for!  Lapsang Souchong is still probably one of my favourite experiences).  There is certainly a time or a place for Silver Needles or one of many other variations of smoother flavours.
