BUT. I want to get that damn thing resolved so it stops getting in the way of me doing anything that involves people reviewing my transcript. It's the #2 reason I skipped out on applying to grad schools in this past cycle, #1 being that I hated life and all living things last year and wanted nothing to do with people.

An F? Is it in your field of study? If not, I highly recommend you consider applying despite the bad mark. I can come up with "Well X had X and still got into Fuck Awesome College," but I really only want to note that I received a D after appealing an F for a class the professor was offering disparate information for in terms of the syllabus (I think 80% of the class failed?) - and it's in 3D Art.

But I got in . .  according to "alternative" NRC research - to a competitive Art History program. At least one. So far, no response from the others, but it's still fairly early.

I only suggest you still consider applying because you can have LORs on reserve, but asking for them later and later seems like they'd be a tad more generic.

It's in my field of study, in my specialization, and in a course offered by one of my profs that'll be giving me a LoR. That last point speaks toward resolving it later/letting her explain it in her letter, but it's an F and it tanks my GPA, my major GPA, and the whole idea of doing this grad school thing. Plus it's fucking annoying because it's from spring 2008. Details in tiny text: I'd taken an incomplete and submitted the paperwork and all relevant materials to the relevant professor well in advance of the deadline. This professor is very flaky but absolutely brilliant and a fabulous teacher/mentor. I have no doubt my grade will be an A in this class, I just need her to submit the paperwork to the university. It's a matter of hand-holding, honestly. But I work 9-5 M-F, campus is a bitch to get to, she's now on leave, her office hours are always VERY crowded and take 4+ hours which I'd have to take off work, blah blah blah excuses.

I'm not waiting until deadlines time to talk to people. I'm putting together a rough draft of the relevant application pieces (statement of purpose, writing sample, summary of academic achievement/CV) this summer, and I'll be approaching them directly in ~August, with a warning/feeling out contact sometime between April and June. ESPECIALLY with this flaky-but-awesome prof, I know full well it takes months and months of advanced knowledge to get these things right. Lucky for me, a superstar in my field respects my work, and a rising star totally loves me. So woo for that.

Three years . . . ? Man. That's insane. I don't believe it's unfair to be pushy at this point, even if it can be addressed in the LOR or through transcript updating.

I am confused though. You've graduated? If not, ok, I understand. If you did, you're expecting to get an A from a withdrawal?

Anyway, best wishes from me anyway! (:

It is insane. :|

I have indeed graduated. I'm not trying to get the grade out of a withdrawal, but from an Incomplete-lapsed-to-F. More tiny text explanations! It pretty much means I took an "I" during the semester in question (spring 2008) and then the grade didn't get replaced by the deadline (spring 2009). Because the grade didn't get replaced, it lapsed to an F. There's a form that allows for an "extension," which will let the prof file the actual grade - which I suspect will be an A - with the Registrar.

Further details: I took the exams in the class and attended each meeting. I turned in a draft of the paper, but filed the Incomplete because I couldn't get the final paper in. She got the final paper in plenty of time to file the final grade. So - I did the work and the prof had it. She just never filed the grade.

Thanks. :) Congrats (again?) for your acceptance, by the way!

Ah, grade appeals.  Yeah, we don't have those at all at law school.

I get what you're saying Lady Door. I wonder how much work the professor actually has to do - midterms just passed and I expect they entered grades. What semester will you apply for?

NotMiki, the professors do not want to be challenged? In a fantasy world, I think it'd be awesome to hold court for all people in law school appealing grades. And entertaining, in a subjective/objective way.

Still no net access, but hrm.

Currently on a work experience thing at a semi-voluntary teaching organisation. It's been really fun, somehow, and I've had a stupid amount of variety in what I've been doing. The people seemingly hate each other for the most part, but I get on with most of them. I'm going to the Assange trial protest tomorrow and then have an interview on Friday.
Seems things are picking up for me again. ^______^

Ah, grade appeals.  Yeah, we don't have those at all at law school.

I didn't really have them for undergrad, either. This is really a technical issue. Because believe me, if we could file appeals? There's one stupid B+ in particular I'd like to strangle an adjunct over.  >:( ETA: I had an A+ going into the final, and the final was objectively the easiest exam in the English department. After the semester ended, I never heard from the prof again. So. Angry.

Prof is on leave this semester. So... she's only got her writing! Applying for entry Fall 2012.

Hooray and congrats for your street-legal pup. :)

Andrew took both sets of apartment keys today by accident, so I:

a) wake up at 5:45, because that's when Andrew gets up to leave
b) wake up at 6am, because Andrew says goodbye when he leaves
c) wake up at 6:15am, because that's when I may as well get up to walk the dog
d) discover at 6:30am that I have no keys, and thus cannot leave the apartment
e) must wait until 9am, when the leasing office opens, to plan to leave
f) still need to take the bus to work

All of which means I won't get into the office until 10 or later, and thus should be staying until 6pm. After waking up at 5:45. Me = :(

ETA:

This afternoon has been one disaster, rush-rush-rush, now-now-now moment after another. *facepalm* At least it makes the day go by.

Man, you're right. I haven't whined needlessly in ages.

Today's whiny topic:
If the only way to kill zombies is to destroy the brain...and if zombies are always feasting on the brains of their victims...How do their victims keep turning into new zombies?

In general, the "Zombies crave brains" aspect developed as it went on and wasn't even in Night of the Living Dead and the early movies. They craved flesh in general, and the victims came back for that reason... zombies would eat them but couldn't get at the brains, and whatever was left was reanimated.

This is leaving out the whole "ZOMBIES ARE SOCIALISM" aspect of Night of the Living Dead, of course. Destroying the brain to kill them makes that aspect make sense. WOO SYMBOLISM

And "lol everyone is fucked" endings... as opposed to what, CK? Happily ever after endings? What the fuck are you watching these movies for? It's about thinly veiled symbolism in the early movies, evolving into doom and gloom and the inevitability of death in general (granted, this is true in all of them). Modern zombie movies may miss the point, I'll give you that. But I'd just recommend to stop watching shitty movies.

I just prefer a little fiction in my movies.  That it's possible to salvage and rebuild for humanity is a must.  Just a personal quirk.

Edit: Well.  Not so much in comedy.  Something like the end of Dr. Strangelove doesn't bother me.

Since there's no middle ground between "inevitable extinction!" and "everybody lives... forever!"

When you're dealing with pandemics, there's "win" and there's "lose." Pandemics don't really reach an understanding and decide to respect borders. The question is scale: Night of the Living Dead versus, say, Nier's backstory.

Eh.  Something like, oh, Planet Terror isn't exactly a 'win' even if, yes, the characters largely survive and humanity is probably not going to be wiped out.
