Just finished watching EVO 2011 on stream.  Three days of little sleep and the most amazing fighting on the planet.  I can't even pick a favorite moment:

Poongko doing a 53-hit combo on some fool with Seth
100% damage combo with Ibuki (think it was on Rufus, which is even scarier because of his high health)
Justin Wong coming back and killing two characters with a zero health Akuma with no X-factor in MvC3
AndyOCR killing three characters with a lone Haggar.  RESET!  RESET!  RESET!
A Hakumen player winning Blazblue with some reallly insane blocking skills.
Tron Bonne beating Dark Phoenix.  Yes.
Latif eliminating Tokido, then Daigo, then Poongko in SF4.  Lost in the finals, but kept it alive for the USA.

Oh crap, I have to go to work tomorrow.  Gotta calm down so I can sleep.

So I am well convinced that they won't be drug testing now. I was supposed to pee in the cup before I even got to the hospital. No way in hell that can be a drug test. Breathing EZ now.

It would have made for a good case for drug law reform I guess? But yes it would have been supremely silly.

Glad that worked out ok for you in the end Zenny :)

I am going out on a day trip today~ It will take two buses to get there but hopefully it'll be fun when we do. There will be lunch.

Haha. Haha. Hah. Sleep after Evo.
...mein gott getting just an hour of sleep last night was not the best of plans, but seeing Daigo getting perfected by Poongko made it all worthwhile.

Yay for Zenny!

... soooo. Unscheduled, announced-the-day-of company meeting today? Called by the CEO and COO? No details? That does not bode well.

(I'm 99% sure I'm safe even if it is, for some reason, a layoff meeting. I had a chat with the CEO a week ago, and she wants me to work directly with her. "Things will be shifting, and I don't know exactly what that will entail, but I definitely want to keep you on," she said. "And I know you're underpaid, and we'll look at fixing that, too.")

So that was jarring.

They're selling off 2/3 of the company. We're retaining and retooling around what's left. The CEO may or may not be sticking around past the transition, which ends in January?!

I don't know what this means for me and my job specifically just yet, but I think I'm fine. I'll know this afternoon for sure when she gets around to chatting with Marketing. The longest period anyone is sticking around who will be laid off is 5 months, though there are many that are going immediately. Some are staying with the retooled company.

I technically can't talk about this yet, either - press release is Wednesday - so I'm being purposefully vague.

Anti-climax.

They love me, they want to keep me so much that they don't even have a proper job title or job description for me, they're going to make one up. Sound familiar? That's exactly how I ended up as Marketing Department Assistant.

That said: I'm in a MUCH better place. They love me, but they have REASON to love me other than "potential." I also am not so attached to this job that I'm not going to negotiate for what I want out of this. The CEO says she sees something of herself in me, and she wants to keep me interested, yadda yadda. I don't think she's insincere, but we'll see what her version of "keep me interested" is versus my own.

Negotiations and all that jazz in the coming weeks.

Bottom line: I still have a job.

ETA: Found out we're laying off the two designers. Yes, THE. As in, we no longer have designers in the Marketing department. Hoo boy, budgeting for contractors. I feel really bad for one of the girls. She was laid off in the second round the first time we had problems (fall 2009), then rehired two months later. And now laid off again! At least she's collecting some great severance...

ONLY IN MEDICINE

Only in medicine is it ok to start a sentence off with, "I'm a big fan of glycerin suppositories..."

False. Large fans composed of glycerin suppositories are also large fans of glycerin suppositories.

Been a bit manic lately since my newly attempted to vow to minimize anger about things in my life. The net result is more sarcasm and off-handed snarking to account for shorter bursts. Seems like a decent trade so far! Only time will tell.

Wouldn't it make more sense to deal with the source of anger? Life's more fun if you grab a weapon and go charging after your problems.

What, praytell, is the source of anger?

If you think it's the thing making you angry, try again. With less swords and guns.

LOL. This is horrible, horrible advice. If I did this I'd be in jail for a good reason.
