Futurama: Teasures of the 2010 Backlog Edition Week 2
« on: January 31, 2011, 07:21:21 AM »

Godlike

Yurika Misamaru (Super Robot Taisen Series) v Fou-lu (Breath of Fire IV)

Taupy Toplan (Sands of Destruction) v Myria (Breath of Fire Series)
Myria1.  Even if you totally ignore Agni Taupy wins this thanks to cheaty fullhealing + damage + awesome buffs all in one turn.

Middle

Luso (Final Fantasy Tactics Series) v Ramza Beolve (Final Fantasy Tactics)
A rare "one of these characters is not rankable" vote.  Leaving Luso a Soldier the entire game because it's the default starting class = no, it's not like Ramza where his Squire is different from normal Squire (and even if it weren't, one-classing FFT isn't as irrational as it would be in FFTA2).  Use Adelle instead, she's at least got a unique class.

EDIT: Right, there's the FFTPSP form too.  Changed to abstain as I don't see the FFTA2 form is rankable and didn't play War of the Lions.

Light

Bibarel (Pokémon) v Vinsfeld Rhadamanthus (Wild ARMs 2)
He's got time for Rollout or whatever to work?
Saki (Luminous Arc) v Kain Highwind (Final Fantasy IV) - IIRC Tal's damage topic has Saki doing nearly no damage at all.  While I don't think I approve of taking damage against such high Defense enemies - Saki's got both physical and magical options so she can normally do something - her damage is still bad, despite her excellent speed, and Kain isn't a completely terrible Light, so.

Godlike

Yurika Misamaru (Super Robot Taisen Series) v Fou-lu (Breath of Fire IV) - Fou-lu copes with the defensive game here how exactly.

Heavy

Domon Kasshu (Super Robot Taisen Series) v Weltall 2 (Xenogears) - Pretty sure it works out this way right now.

Middle

Lilina (Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals) v Riki (SaGa Frontier) - Okay, near as I can see it Lilina wants Thunder unless Aircalibur actually wouldn't hit the crazy high Force defense here since Riki is getting a turn and he's going to buff his Fire-related durability up to over 3x PCHP.  This said his Elec durability is nowhere near as good when buffed, probably fails to 4HKO Lilina durability (FAIL) and is provoking counters.  Trying for Petrify is no good due to Lilina Res.  ON THE OTHER HAND, Lilina probably doesn't double and doesn't 2HKO Riki with Thunder after he buffs or outpace his healing.  So Riki just heals forever (which he sorta has to, being 3HKOed and having entirely counterable ST offense) and ever until Lilina runs out of Thunder tomes and then proceeds to gnaw her to death.  Way to go.  EDIT: actually no wait, Lilina manages a godly 2% crit rate with Thunder, so that strategy's no good.  Go figure.
Luso (Final Fantasy Tactics Series) v Ramza Beolve (Final Fantasy Tactics) - Speed Rend or whatever it was called makes Ramza kinda sad.  And then Luso proceeds to make Ramza sadder.

Light

Cheripha (Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume) v Beautifly (Pokémon) - Cheripha's damage is pretty bad.  Even if you don't see Beautifly walling the Dawnbow for some reason, she doesn't 2HKO Beautifly here.  If she does have to go for the Blue Gale?  Struggles to even 3HKO.  If you don't allow Beautifly Harden, this doesn't matter.  If you do?  Beautifly spams Harden with the occasional Morning Sun mixed in and proceeds to mock.  Beautifly is sluggish but not so much that Cheripha doubles that often.  Since I don't see a reason to deny Beautifly Harden myself, this works for me.
Bibarel (Pokémon) v Vinsfeld Rhadamanthus (Wild ARMs 2) - Insert Vinsfeld respect somewhere else.
Lassi (Magical Starsign) v Kahn (Breath of Fire IV) - Edit: so ah Lassi damage doesn't fail as much as I thought and I don't think Focus -> Attack quite OHKOs, but Attack x2 does 2HKO and Lassi isn't fast enough for consistant 3-2's I don't think.  Furthermore her healing consumes all her MP and what she gets off of her regen doesn't let her outpace a normal attack.  Bleh, this needs number crunching.  Edit2: Aaaand on looking at things I'm not even willing to make the call that Focus -> Attack doesn't OHKO now.
Saki (Luminous Arc) v Kain Highwind (Final Fantasy IV) - BUT BUT JUMP DOWN HYPE (no)

Godlike

Adramelk (Laggy Fantasy Tactics) v Xorn (Grandia III) - uuuuuhhhhmmmm kneejerk Adramelk but um ...

Heavy

Ghost Ship (Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City)
v Arnaud G. Vasquez (Wild ARMs 4) -  Ahahahaha to Arnaud being able to manage this. Ghost Ship can't even touch Arnaud until half HP and it -still- spoils him Hadoken.

Middle

Luso (Final Fantasy Tactics Series) v Ramza Beolve (Final Fantasy Tactics) - Ramza does whatever, Luso Speed Rends and proceeds to kill. Ramza can't manage to two-shot Luso's tanky ass so game over.

Light

Bibarel (Pokémon) v Vinsfeld Rhadamanthus (Wild ARMs 2) - Requires I respect Vinsfeld's battle form. Ever. No.

Godlike

Yurika Misamaru (Super Robot Taisen Series) v Fou-lu (Breath of Fire IV)
Taupy Toplan (Sands of Destruction) v Myria (Breath of Fire Series) - I think both Myrias lose here?
Adramelk (Laggy Fantasy Tactics) v Xorn (Grandia III) - Hm, can Xorn overwhelm Adramelk with a Death Knell + other stuff?

Heavy

Domon Kasshu (Super Robot Taisen Series) v Weltall 2 (Xenogears)

Middle

Lilina (Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals) v Riki (SaGa Frontier)
Cornet Espoir (Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure) v Yosuke Hanamura (Persona 4)
Luso (Final Fantasy Tactics Series) v Ramza Beolve (Final Fantasy Tactics)

Besides -that-. Seriously, DL Cathedral is basically unable to use its male/female gimmick due to assuming intelligence (which you can even do in-game! I so abused that junk against it) and is stuck with its Memory of Guadalupe skillset, which means it uh 15HKOs and has a lot of HP. That's not winning matches in Middle, let alone Heavy.

To be fair, Heavy boss to me is a few tiers above what a Godlike is to most, so...

Cathedral's also around 100x durability or so, which would be a pretty good Godlike to most, I'd think...

You go for OK for boss ranking criteria, you have only yourself to blame.

Reicher (Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy) v Zophar (Lunar: Eternal Blue Complete): Reicher's barrier doesn't act as a damage buffer.
Adramelk (Laggy Fantasy Tactics) v Xorn (Grandia III): I... -think- he just OHKOs?

Heavy

Puniyo (Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy) v Zed (Wild ARMs): Zed should get in two turns before the puni ball blitz can kill him. Also, his Raring to Go stance kinda owns that strategy arguably anyway.

Middle

Lilina (Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals) v Riki (SaGa Frontier): A Thunder crit should OHKO, here. Riki's electric durability is only 1.22 even after buffs, so any above average damage crit kills him. Lilina's damage is way above average.
Lilianne Valendorf (Mana Khemia: Fall of Alchemy) v Lilly Pendragon (Suikoden III): I feel like I'm missing something that makes Miss Lily remotely competitive in Middle. :(

Light

Cheripha (Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume) v Beautifly (Pokémon): In theory I can vote on both of these, but I'd have to look both up.
Bibarel (Pokémon) v Vinsfeld Rhadamanthus (Wild ARMs 2): I'd think one Amnesia lets him outslug. Also why the hell is that not on his default set when shit like Curse (wooo -2 speed this is a great idea) is?

Erwin Schrödinger will kill you like a cat in a box.

Lilianne Valendorf (Mana Khemia: Fall of Alchemy) v Lilly Pendragon (Suikoden III): I feel like I'm missing something that makes Miss Lily remotely competitive in Middle. :(

Mostly -some- equip cheese. She can actually get a good Blocking rate on her ultimate armor without obscure Ether level manipulation+MK2 elemental walling = just kinda solidly spoils enough in Light. This makes her pretty crappy in Middle, though. >_>

Oh, perfectly fair. I think the matchup probably seems to say CK was so enamored with the idea of having a Lillyx2 fight (and they're even somewhat relatable personality-wise) that he probably forgot he was pitting a bad Middle against a great Middle.

EDIT: But this was about Lilianne Valendorf not being completely completely screwed in Middle so you'd :( less.

All of these equip drops come with a pretty hefty speed penalty though (Like 15%). Works versus Estella, but these don't really let her play in Middle since she doesn't have the damage or the durability (Of course, if  you ban any of the those obscure ELevel Manipulations, I believe she gains relatively). I'd give her a 2.75.

Probably then makes her a good Light. Hit to Et, Puniyo and Enna's damage and a few other stats. Still way over her head in Middle.

Godlike

Yurika Misamaru (Super Robot Taisen Series) v Fou-lu (Breath of Fire IV) - SRW~
Reicher (Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy) v Zophar (Lunar: Eternal Blue Complete) - Letting Reicher inflict Break seems fair. It's less of a status effect and more of an accrued effect from Reicher's piled-on damage, and I don't think I'd let standard boss immunity block this? (Actually, I have no idea how Break works in MK2, but if it's like MK1, then I think this is how I'd vote.)
Taupy Toplan (Sands of Destruction) v Myria (Breath of Fire Series) - Not a bad fight, but the healing off of that speed outpaces Myria's magic damage.
Adramelk (Laggy Fantasy Tactics) v Xorn (Grandia III) - LFT~

Heavy

Domon Kasshu (Super Robot Taisen Series) v Weltall 2 (Xenogears) - SRW~
Puniyo (Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy) v Zed (Wild ARMs) - Kneejerk
Viese Blanchimont (Atelier Iris: The Azoth of Destiny) v Cathedral (Xenosaga: Jenseits von Gut und Bose) - anti-Cathedral vote~
Ghost Ship (Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City) v Arnaud G. Vasquez (Wild ARMs 4) - EO~

Middle

Lilina (Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals) v Riki (SaGa Frontier) - What is Riki doing in Middle with an 8HKO? Inflict Charm, profit. Lilina wishes FE6 Thunder had an innate damage bonus to Dragons~
Lilianne Valendorf (Mana Khemia: Fall of Alchemy) v Lilly Pendragon (Suikoden III) - I imagine this being a literal slapfight, and it is hot.
Cornet Espoir (Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure) v Yosuke Hanamura (Persona 4) - Eat Syrupy doom, Brosuke!
Luso (Final Fantasy Tactics Series) v Ramza Beolve (Final Fantasy Tactics) - Speed Rend -> Win. Soldier isn't every PC's default class, it's just Luso's, so it works for me.

Light

Cheripha (Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume) v Beautifly (Pokémon) - She immunes Paralysis, can use the Blue Gale to get rid of the Earth-typing on her physical, and she gets counters. It -might- take a while to finish off Beautifly if you don't see her SC as OHKOing through the healing, but the healing is only 50% and it has limited uses of that.
Bibarel (Pokémon) v Vinsfeld Rhadamanthus (Wild ARMs 2) - Defense Curl->Roll Out strategy on Vinnie?! I'm for it.
Lassi (Magical Starsign) v Kahn (Breath of Fire IV) - The MP Regen means she can heal forever and she's much much faster than Kahn. The eventual Planet Alignment bonus should be plenty to put her in range to finish him off on a double.
Saki (Luminous Arc) v Kain Highwind (Final Fantasy IV) - JUMP DOWN VS. KAIN! OF COURSE!

Cornet Espoir (Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure) v Yosuke Hanamura (Persona 4) - Uhh... Cornet can do what about Confusion?

Well, confusion ain't hitting turn 1, and Cornet gets to turn 2 faster than Yosuke because P4 speed means nothing after the first turn, and Cornet is 2HKOing.  So Yosuke's getting confusion off with 1 HP left and Cornet's still at full.  Pretty sure Cornet's going to break out and kill him before he can get the kill himself.  Or, y'know, randomly attack him while confused that works too.

EDIT: Also level difference matters for status hit rates in P4 (and Rhapsody but not Rhapsody DS but Rhapsody original Cornet probably loses anyway) and Cornet is higher levelled compared to average whether or not you give equal EXP or give her extra EXP due to being forced the whole game.  So that hit rate is going down a bit.
