Openings
X tv OP (Ex Dream) vs. Gundam 0083 OP1 (The Winner) - BUURNING FO' YO' LIIIIIFE!!!!  Seriously?  One of the best Opening songs to sing along with, like, ever.
Vision of Escaflowne OP (Yakusoku wa Irenai) vs. Beck OP (Hit in America) - Fuck.
Shin Mazinger Impact! Z Chapter OP1 (Kanjite KNIGHT) vs. Bakemonogatari OP1 (Staple Stable) - well.  that was surprisingly good.
Cromartie High School OP (Jun) vs. Aquarion (Sousei no Aquarion) - I just...don't like the Aquarion song or video at all.

Nadesico OP (You Get to Burning)
vs. Soul Eater OP1 (Resonance) - Resonance is great, but I think Nadesico does a great job of matcing video to song.  Also, that's a great trumpet riff at the beginning.
Level E OP (Cold Finger Girl) vs. Boogiepop Phantom OP (Yuudachi) - I think this is a bad matchup for Cold Finger Girl.  Compared to Yuudachi it seems...not as chill as it should be.
Kodocha OP1 (7:00 News) vs. Fruits Basket OP (For Fruits Basket) ;_;
Sokyuu no Fafner OP vs. GitS:SAC: The Second Gig OP (Rise) - yup.  easy call.  I'll have to check sometime if the Rise video is by the same folks who did Witch Hunter Robin.  I detect some similarities in the direction.

Endings
.hack//Dusk ED (Emerald Green) vs. Macross Frontier ED (Diamond Crevasse) apathy.
Bakemonogatari ED (Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari) vs. Slayers NEXT ED (Jama wa Sasenai) nice package.  Slayers is a good song, but the video?  not so much.
Clannad ED  (Dango Daikazoku) vs. Beelzebub ED (Answer) hm.  tough call.
Arad Senki ED (Hateshinai Sekai) vs. Eden of the East ED (futuristic imagination) - clash of titans right here.  pretty high-powered matchup for a first round.

Openings
X tv OP (Ex Dream) vs. Gundam 0083 OP1 (The Winner) - This was tough, but I think I prefer the 80's.
Vision of Escaflowne OP (Yakusoku wa Irenai) vs. Beck OP (Hit in America)  The Beck opening is pretty much everything I hate about songs.
Shin Mazinger Impact! Z Chapter OP1 (Kanjite KNIGHT) vs. Bakemonogatari OP1 (Staple Stable)  - The Bakemonogatari song is great, don't get me wrong, but... Jam Project.
Cromartie High School OP (Jun) vs. Aquarion (Sousei no Aquarion)  - Argh... Aquarion's song is way better but Cromartie wins on AFRO. I'll have to think about this one.

Nadesico OP (You Get to Burning) vs. Soul Eater OP1 (Resonance)  - I'll come back to this one too... damnit.
Level E OP (Cold Finger Girl) vs. Boogiepop Phantom OP (Yuudachi)  - ...Wow, this week is going to take some thinking.
Kodocha OP1 (7:00 News) vs. Fruits Basket OP (For Fruits Basket)  - Not for this one!
Sokyuu no Fafner OP vs. GitS:SAC: The Second Gig OP (Rise) - It's hard to beat Angela. I won't be sad if GitS wins though.

Endings
.hack//Dusk ED (Emerald Green) vs. Macross Frontier ED (Diamond Crevasse)
Bakemonogatari ED (Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari) vs. Slayers NEXT ED (Jama wa Sasenai)
Clannad ED  (Dango Daikazoku) vs. Beelzebub ED (Answer) - Do I vote for the catchier one or the one that was absolutely adorable and heart-moving? Hmm........
Arad Senki ED (Hateshinai Sekai) vs. Eden of the East ED (futuristic imagination)  - I will be shocked if this one doesn't champ in some way.

X tv OP (Ex Dream) vs. Gundam 0083 OP1 (The Winner)- Not an inspiring matchup.
Vision of Escaflowne OP (Yakusoku wa Irenai) vs. Beck OP (Hit in America) - beck... I want to like it but being pure engrish, rather than sprinkling it in, is apparently a turnoff for me.
Shin Mazinger Impact! Z Chapter OP1 (Kanjite KNIGHT) vs. Bakemonogatari OP1 (Staple Stable)  - It's like the Persona 3 OP with actual music...
Cromartie High School OP (Jun) vs. Aquarion (Sousei no Aquarion)

Nadesico OP (You Get to Burning) vs. Soul Eater OP1 (Resonance)
Level E OP (Cold Finger Girl) vs. Boogiepop Phantom OP (Yuudachi)  - Neither is really my style, but Boogiepop is just too laid back to even notice for me.
Kodocha OP1 (7:00 News) vs. Fruits Basket OP (For Fruits Basket)  - As above, Fruits Basket is just TOO chill.  (yes, I saw a version with an actual video.)
Sokyuu no Fafner OP vs. GitS:SAC: The Second Gig OP (Rise)- Oh goddammit.  I really like Fafner, but that doesn't make it a better song or video than Second Gig.

Endings
.hack//Dusk ED (Emerald Green) vs. Macross Frontier ED (Diamond Crevasse)  - Prefer this sort of singing.
Bakemonogatari ED (Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari) vs. Slayers NEXT ED (Jama wa Sasenai)  - Blatant favoritism.  Nyah.
Clannad ED  (Dango Daikazoku) vs. Beelzebub ED (Answer)- Puni!  Punini.
Arad Senki ED (Hateshinai Sekai) vs. Eden of the East ED (futuristic imagination)  - I feel this needs no explaination.

X tv OP (Ex Dream) vs. Gundam 0083 OP1 (The Winner) - BURNING FOR YOUR LIFE!
Vision of Escaflowne OP (Yakusoku wa Irenai) vs. Beck OP (Hit in America) - Mrf. This is an unfair first round match. Escaflowne has the better song, Beck is the better OP. Esca's isn't too shabby, which makes it hard, but... it hasn't aged well. Beck is the better overall package. Woo wide-eyed innocence!
Shin Mazinger Impact! Z Chapter OP1 (Kanjite KNIGHT) vs. Bakemonogatari OP1 (Staple Stable) - BURNING THIS ANGER, BURNING THIS SUN! sadly beats stapler sex.
Cromartie High School OP (Jun) vs. Aquarion (Sousei no Aquarion) - Again, Aquarion has the better song, but CroHigh is the better opening. Aquarion's doesn't really compliment the song much at all.

Nadesico OP (You Get to Burning) vs. Soul Eater OP1 (Resonance) - YOU GET TO... damn. No BURNING trifecta. Soul Eater is champ material.
Level E OP (Cold Finger Girl) vs. Boogiepop Phantom OP (Yuudachi) - Boogiepop's is much more fun than I remembered.
Kodocha OP1 (7:00 News) vs. Fruits Basket OP (For Fruits Basket) - Was never a fan of Fruits Basket's.
Sokyuu no Fafner OP vs. GitS:SAC: The Second Gig OP (Rise) - Ugh. Rise vs Resonance is gonna kill me. At least it'll be a damn good quarterfinal.

Endings
.hack//Dusk ED (Emerald Green) vs. Macross Frontier ED (Diamond Crevasse) - Apathy here. Will come back.
Bakemonogatari ED (Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari) vs. Slayers NEXT ED (Jama wa Sasenai) - Slayers' is good, but Bakemonogatari's beats it in every creative area.
Clannad ED  (Dango Daikazoku) vs. Beelzebub ED (Answer) - Hard call. Both are decent, bordering good but not great. I'll go with the cuteness.
Arad Senki ED (Hateshinai Sekai) vs. Eden of the East ED (futuristic imagination) - Ugh... this should be the championship. 8-bit fun time vs. genuinely creative visuals. Songs are about even. I'll have to coinflip it if I can't decide. EDIT: Coinflipped.

X tv OP (Ex Dream) vs. Gundam 0083 OP1 (The Winner): Ehhh, Clamp, but it works well enough for what it is and mecha generally do nothing for me.
Vision of Escaflowne OP (Yakusoku wa Irenai) vs. Beck OP (Hit in America): Kanno's okay and all, but I'm really not seeing where the hype's coming from here. Escaflowne character designer also likes shoulder pads a bit too much.
Shin Mazinger Impact! Z Chapter OP1 (Kanjite KNIGHT) vs. Bakemonogatari OP1 (Staple Stable): Staplers, huh? Staplers. Also giant girl out of nowhere. Yeah, it'll do.
Cromartie High School OP (Jun) vs. Aquarion (Sousei no Aquarion): Has the right amount of *what* to make me curious about watching it. Also Freddie Mercury.

Nadesico OP (You Get to Burning) vs. Soul Eater OP1 (Resonance): Is pretty distinctive visually at least, even if I'm not sure I like the style at all.
Level E OP (Cold Finger Girl) vs. Boogiepop Phantom OP (Yuudachi): Color contrasts I guess are more than BP has going on.
Kodocha OP1 (7:00 News) vs. Fruits Basket OP (For Fruits Basket): Fruits Basket OP likes framing. A lot. Which is kind of cool, but the music put me to sleep. Kodocha meanwhile I can't decide if it was cute or disturbing which I guess is a win for memorability.
Sokyuu no Fafner OP vs. GitS:SAC: The Second Gig OP (Rise): Perfection.

Endings
.hack//Dusk ED (Emerald Green) vs. Macross Frontier ED (Diamond Crevasse): See, this is how you make good use of subdued music. Give us a main phrase right off and make the most of it before time's up. Slow music doesn't have to be shapeless mush.
Bakemonogatari ED (Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari) vs. Slayers NEXT ED (Jama wa Sasenai): Scribbles, weird proportions, and strange imagery. Guess it works.
Clannad ED  (Dango Daikazoku) vs. Beelzebub ED (Answer): PUNI storm. PUNIS gathering to watch plants grow. Okay, this was super-cute. Beelzebub on the other hand goes from naked baby to pile of corpses and back within seconds. Mood whiplash.
Arad Senki ED (Hateshinai Sekai)vs. Eden of the East ED (futuristic imagination): These are actually both pretty great. Arad Senki speaks for itself the second you glance at it (jesus the fireworks even sound like early nineties game SFX), and will probably be a winner here, so I'll toss a vote at EotE because someone has to. It wants to be a Peter Gabriel video and I can totally get behind that. The more of these I look at, the more I want to reward the visually idiosyncratic.

Almost everything in Endings, aside from Beelzebub, would have beaten like 7/8 of last week's EDs.  Weird.

X tv OP (Ex Dream) vs. Gundam 0083 OP1 (The Winner) - I thought they were saying "fighting for your life."  Oh well.  Kinda coinflippy.  I think I prefer mech openings to be done with a more stately orchestral piece a la Zeta Gundam but this works well enough, and X is repetitive and a bit boring, for all that it has a few scenes that looked really cool if they'd been expanded on more.
Vision of Escaflowne OP (Yakusoku wa Irenai) vs. Beck OP (Hit in America)  - Beck's visuals are actually pretty good!  And I can appreciate that the song is well-done even if it's not up my alley.  Unfortunately, too much repetition of "made to hit in america" for my taste toward the end.  Escaflowne isn't perfect - I could do with fewer shots of Hitomi flying through space - but otherwise hits all the notes of what I'd think of in an archetypical but good OP.  And has Kanno music.
Shin Mazinger Impact! Z Chapter OP1 (Kanjite KNIGHT) vs. Bakemonogatari OP1 (Staple Stable) - wut.  I hate the face art in Mazinger but it's more interesting than lol staplers.
Cromartie High School OP (Jun) vs. Aquarion (Sousei no Aquarion) - what.  Agree that Aquarion's visuals are only okay (they lose the plot a bit in the second half) but I don't like Cromartie's art style and it's a bit TOO weird.  It looks like random stuff thrown against the wall so there's no context.  Then there's that Kanno music again so yeah.

Nadesico OP (You Get to Burning) vs. Soul Eater OP1 (Resonance)   - Yeah Nadesico's is nothing special, while Soul eater has a pretty neat art style at least.
Level E OP (Cold Finger Girl) vs. Boogiepop Phantom OP (Yuudachi)  - Huh, these shows seem kinda similar.  Actually pretty much a tie, but guess I'll go with the more active (if slightly repetitive) opening.
Kodocha OP1 (7:00 News) vs. Fruits Basket OP (For Fruits Basket)  - zzzzzzzzz Fruits Basket.
Sokyuu no Fafner OP vs. GitS:SAC: The Second Gig OP (Rise) - Fafner's OP is quite good and would beat a lot of the above.

Endings
.hack//Dusk ED (Emerald Green) vs. Macross Frontier ED (Diamond Crevasse) - Hey these are both good WTF.  .hack gets the tiebreak on slightly more interesting visuals.
Bakemonogatari ED (Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari) vs. Slayers NEXT ED (Jama wa Sasenai) - Slayers is good but the Bakemonogatari ending actually does something visually.  (Edit: And I bolded the wrong entry initially.)
Clannad ED  (Dango Daikazoku) vs. Beelzebub ED (Answer) - Deformed baby butts?  Ugh.  Clannad's was surprisingly good.
Arad Senki ED (Hateshinai Sekai)vs. Eden of the East ED (futuristic imagination)   - LAUNCH ZE (pencil) MISSILES.  (More seriously, while both get an A for visuals, I like EotE's song a good bit more.)

X tv OP (Ex Dream) vs. Gundam 0083 OP1 (The Winner) - Wow the Gundam one is the worst thing I've seen ever. I really don't see the appeal. It has boring cuts, stale panning art, and a song that puts me to sleep. I'm seriously wondering what frame of reference is needed for one to like this opening enough to vote for it.
Vision of Escaflowne OP (Yakusoku wa Irenai) vs. Beck OP (Hit in America) - Hit in America is just too repetitive, and Escaflowne's is one of my favorite Kanno tunes + pretty cuts.
Shin Mazinger Impact! Z Chapter OP1 (Kanjite KNIGHT) vs. Bakemonogatari OP1 (Staple Stable) - For all that STAPLES! is unique, it's pretty dull. Also, I tend to enjoy anime openings because I like looking at anime art, not CG staplers over photographs.
Cromartie High School OP (Jun) vs. Aquarion (Sousei no Aquarion) - Cro High is delightful, but Aquarion's got the better art, perspectives, cuts, fluidity, and song.

Nadesico OP (You Get to Burning) vs. Soul Eater OP1 (Resonance) - I feel bad voting against You get to BUUURNING~, but yeah, Champ material.
Level E OP (Cold Finger Girl) vs. Boogiepop Phantom OP (Yuudachi) - I like Boogiepop's song, but Level E is just superior all-around. Particularly good use of color.
Kodocha OP1 (7:00 News) vs. Fruits Basket OP (For Fruits Basket) - Uh... I like the -show- Fruits Basket. Kodocha just destroys here.
Sokyuu no Fafner OP vs. GitS:SAC: The Second Gig OP (Rise) - Good match, but GitS music is among my favorites. Although the subtitles on that drove me crazy. Who the hell thought using kanji that kinda-resemble English letter was a good idea... it hurt my head trying to decipher it. >.>;;

Endings
.hack//Dusk ED (Emerald Green) vs. Macross Frontier ED (Diamond Crevasse) - Man these fail. At least the Macross one has a pretty singer.
Bakemonogatari ED (Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari) vs. Slayers NEXT ED (Jama wa Sasenai) - The Bakemonogatari ED is at least significantly better than its opening!
Clannad ED  (Dango Daikazoku) vs. Beelzebub ED (Answer) - I have no idea what's going on in the Beelzebub ED, but in its defense, it does make me curious. Unfortunately, an ending song would come -after- an anime, so making me curious about the show isn't very effective there.
Arad Senki ED (Hateshinai Sekai)vs. Eden of the East ED (futuristic imagination) - I will say this for whoever nommed the Arad Senki ED: Dude fuckin knows his audience...

X tv OP (Ex Dream) vs. Gundam 0083 OP1 (The Winner)
Yeah.
Vision of Escaflowne OP (Yakusoku wa Irenai) vs. Beck OP (Hit in America)
Close, but not in a good way. The Beck OP is at least notable for the Engrish and the way the video actually works as a music video for the song independent of the show, but Escaflowne has a song I actually like even if the video's just there.
Shin Mazinger Impact! Z Chapter OP1 (Kanjite KNIGHT) vs. Bakemonogatari OP1 (Staple Stable)
I was expecting to like Staple Stable a lot more than I did. It's like they said "hey, you know what would be silly to put in our video? Staplers." And then took the idea not a single step farther.
Anyway, robots, JAM Project, I'm predictable, etc.
Cromartie High School OP (Jun) vs. Aquarion (Sousei no Aquarion)
Okay, see, that's how you turn a boring song into a funny OP. Not that this was going to be a hard choice; Sousei no Aquarion is one of those songs that's substantially better in an SRW, where it has the generic vocals replaced by a distinctive synth line.

Nadesico OP (You Get to Burning) vs. Soul Eater OP1 (Resonance)
A pretty good song in any case, and the visuals make full use of Soul Eater's impressive sense of style. Great stuff.
Level E OP (Cold Finger Girl) vs. Boogiepop Phantom OP (Yuudachi)
Cold Finger Girl isn't quite as good as the sum of its parts, but this is still a curbstomp.
Kodocha OP1 (7:00 News) vs. Fruits Basket OP (For Fruits Basket)
Not as much of one as this, though!
Sokyuu no Fafner OP vs. GitS:SAC: The Second Gig OP (Rise)
I would not complain about this as a finals matchup. Damn.

Endings
.hack//Dusk ED (Emerald Green) vs. Macross Frontier ED (Diamond Crevasse)
A very nice song, even though I really don't like the whole "EDs must put you to sleep" style. Extra credit for harmonica.
Bakemonogatari ED (Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari) vs. Slayers NEXT ED (Jama wa Sasenai)
Bakemonogatari curbstomps on visuals, Slayers curbstomps on music. Giving the tiebreak to my nom.
Clannad ED  (Dango Daikazoku) vs. Beelzebub ED (Answer)
I actually know something about Beelzebub and thus can chuckle at the ED, while all I get from the Clannad animation is "Weebl and Bob for little girls." Which you'd think would be funnier than that.
Arad Senki ED (Hateshinai Sekai)vs. Eden of the East ED (futuristic imagination)
First of all: Wow. This is a better match than Shangri-La vs. Rise and I didn't think that was possible.
Anyway, I'm going with futuristic imagination because it does more with its perfectly realized and extremely creative visual theme, plus it has a better singer. Won't complain when Arad Senki wins.

24 hours.
Rocky: you do know what an A-bomb is, right?
Bullwinkle: A-bomb is what some people call our show!
Rocky: I don't think that's very funny...
Bullwinkle: Neither do they, apparently!

Openings
X tv OP (Ex Dream) vs. Gundam 0083 OP1 (The Winner): Hatbotted. Couldn't care enough.

Vision of Escaflowne OP (Yakusoku wa Irenai) vs. Beck OP (Hit in America): Music video appeal worked a bit better for me.

Shin Mazinger Impact! Z Chapter OP1 (Kanjite KNIGHT) vs. Bakemonogatari OP1 (Staple Stable): Just not much visual appeal to Staple Stable when more felt like it could have been done.

Cromartie High School OP (Jun) vs. Aquarion (Sousei no Aquarion): Potential champ, yes.

Nadesico OP (You Get to Burning) vs. Soul Eater OP1 (Resonance): Potential champ, part 2.

Level E OP (Cold Finger Girl) vs. Boogiepop Phantom OP (Yuudachi): A shame. Boogiepop would have done a lot better last week. Level E reeks of style.

Kodocha OP1 (7:00 News) vs. Fruits Basket OP (For Fruits Basket): Fruits Basket is too slow for me, unfortunately. Nicely emotive though, just loses to the raw energy.

Sokyuu no Fafner OP vs. GitS:SAC: The Second Gig OP (Rise): Yeah. 2nd Gig had a MUCH better opening than SAC.

Endings
.hack//Dusk ED (Emerald Green) vs. Macross Frontier ED (Diamond Crevasse) : Can we just let the loser of AS vs EotE win here instead?

Bakemonogatari ED (Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari) vs. Slayers NEXT ED (Jama wa Sasenai): Very nice animation. Enough so to beat a nostalgia favorite.

Clannad ED  (Dango Daikazoku) vs. Beelzebub ED (Answer): Eh. Quasi-parody thing works for me.

Arad Senki ED (Hateshinai Sekai)vs. Eden of the East ED (futuristic imagination) : Oh man. EDs are dead to me with this match out of the way. Either ED slaughters everything else so far.

I'm called in to tie break the final match, and I hereby declare the winner to be EDEN OF THE EAST because while both have decent visuals, the first has abysmal music and EotE's music, while having a terrible singer, at least has some slick bass.

This was a tough decision for me, too, but if this is the championship match, I either uniformly hate Anime EDs, or think you're all batshit insane.

A) Most anime EDs are in fact terrible.
B) It can't be both?
