Yeah, its that time again! You guys know the drill, starting off with noms, etc. Just post IN THIS TOPIC if you are interested in nomming music, etc.

Starting with 20 slots; might add more if there's enuogh demand...which I somehow doubt.

You will not have any trouble with that. Great deals of shouting and then people not knowing obvious songs that are obvious.

Thinking of trying something different this year for structure. While "Raise hand" method is more orderly, a lot of people have more fun with the "Shout like a madman" method though that led to Grefter answering a bonus properly about 5 times before finally being heard.

What's this new method? Not 100% sure of it, but thinking of maybe doing a team mechanic of sorts, like split the DL up into a few teams and they answer based on that. I haven't worked out the details yet entirely, ok? Worst case scenario, we go back to the trainwreck shouting method that seems to be liked or something.

Raise your hand didn't go down so great for jeopardy. The shouting is a bit over the top, but it is kind of the thing. Just less shouting people down really is all we need.

I doubt we are going to get another Orpheus and the Underworld situation. That was a loaded piece of music trivia and my voice is at the wrong tone to carry through a chattering crowd.

I just dunno. Raise your hand relies to much on people having some physical reaction speed. Visibility from judges and you know people just putting their hands up when they have no idea. Someone can know the answer and never get a chance cause people just keep raising their hands.

It is just kind of impossible to run that kind of quiz with 20 people without it being a write down your answers and get someone to mark it like a test.

Well, one idea I had with the "team" setting is people do it via writing it down, then after discussing it and giving them a chance to answer, I reveal it on the spot. If there's a problem involved (eg "Hey, that song appeared in that exact fashion in this game too! That should count!"), we have judges who make sure people aren't changing answers Mid-song, etc.

Its just an idea i'm toying with and changes the format a bit, to keep things fresh. This of course leads to a problem of teams "cheating" by overhearing other teams and well, yeah, I'm aware new problems arise, but every format has SOME unique problems, as you illustrated.

The other problem is if we have prizes and a do team format, how do we determine who gets what. DLC4/5, that was no problem because some people brought a lot of souveneirs that "people who win shit get first dibs on!" before just handing them away. Doubt that'll be the case this year however.

Either Roshambo for it or degenerate to shouting match for bonus rounds to break up points by team.

I do think writing will generally be less "fun" than the shouting matches have kind of ended up, but meh.

Well, nothing is finalized, so I'm just throwing ideas out on the table and hoping to get some feedback! Worst case scenario, we go back to good old "Shout out like a moron" and just pretend that works well.

The easiest way to get people to not raise their hand right away on every single song is to assign negative points for wrong answers.

You can't do that with shouting though.

I didn't like the shouting version at all (too loud, people guess right and it gets missed) but I'm not coming this year so yeah, my opinion here doesn't matter too much.

Also, I'll be there this year, so you guys can have all the Japanese souvenirs I can fit in my car for prizes.

I agree, a punishment is the perfect way to discourage random guessing... but half the fun is guessing randomly, so you don't want to discourage it entirely. I've always felt a "2 pts for a right answer, -1 for a wrong answer" is a happy medium to the usual "+1/-1" dichotomy.
Alternately, the punishment for a wrong answer should be a shot of whiskey. Then the game will get fun really quickly.

I brought stuff at DLC4. Meeple still has it all as far as I know because your mind blowing pile of prizes kind of shit all over CDs no one has ever heard of (and this is fine because holy shit that was some seriously crazy haul for all that I would still like to see people get music for participating in the music quiz sometime.)
