So, my other interim tournament idea clearly needs a good deal more work on my end than I'm inclined to give it at this time, so we'll default to the lazy way out, Futurama!

This time around, I'd like everyone to nom two ranked characters and two unranked characters. Each of these characters should be in different divisions, ie one Godlike, one Heavy, one Middle, and one Light. Please be sure that the unranked characters are from different games.

All other characters belong as unranked picks.

Your field needs another unranked character Neph. Probably simplest to have both Yu Yevon's alts as unranked, although replacing Sas also works.

Edit: For the record I thiiiiink I'd see Yu Yevon in middle? The average light has sufficiently low damage to fail to break his regen I'd think by most stanards.

For my money, Yu Yevon is Puny and can't win matches ever because of Auto-Life. Without -that-, Middle probably works?

Well yeah, but I take as a given that those sort of environmental factors are ignored in the DL, sorta the reverse of why Izanami is rankable, we don't say "oh she can't be killed unless you're Souji".

Except the *entire* Yu Yevon fight is a plotfight. It's not like there's some plotfight opening or plotfight ending that can be thrown out separately.

Also even Jogurt can overcome the healing counters - just wait for Yu Yevon to Gravija himself to 1 HP, then strike. So yeah, Puny for me. (Defeats non-Marona Phantom Brave characters, at least.)

As an additional wrinkle, Yevon-with-no-AutoLife worth drastically varies on whether you enforce Osmose -> Ultima, or just allow Ultima on hitting his limit, since making him take two actions effectively halves his limit range. (Light to Heavy transition there, at least if you respect his HP more than the stat topic does.)

Okay, then the reverse of BoFV's Bosch, who doesn't auto-win matches because we assume he doesn't have to be nailed with anti-dragon weapons before he takes damage every turn. Or equivelent to Shiho, who we assume has Wait Reaction and can, in fact, attack.

Put another way, I assume that if a character is in the field, then people will be reasonable enough to ignore any plot-driven instant win/loss conditions and treat the character as a viable dueller assuming they have the numbers to function as one (as Yu Yevon does; sure, he's not good, but sans auto-life he functions as a valid boss who can attack or be killed in a straight fight). If people are dead set against such characters, we can start scrubbing them, but honestly I like duellers like Yu Yevon, they suck but do so in interesting ways that can spoil certain duellers.

There is no way I am ignoring the Auto-Life in the DL. If you put in Yu Yevon I will vote against him unless someone can't actually kill him. In which case I will vote for no one since that is a tie.

CK: I agree with the principle of "adapt the interpretation that places a dueler in the division they're at..." usually. Just Yevon is an exceptionally horrible case because he'd have been balanced totally differently if he didn't hand out the Auto-Life, so trying to interpret him without the Auto-Life is more counterfactual than usual. I'd *forgotten* he had Ultima until Elf's stat topic reminded me because it's an irrelevant waste-a-turn in-game; his only relevant moves are Gravija & the Curaga counters. This isn't a "use the plot item to make the final boss vulnerable" thing, or a boss that is optional (but if you fight it out you can still "lose"), but rather a puzzle fight with Auto-Life an integral part of it that isn't easily excised.

That said, to be clear, I'll vote on no-Auto-Life Yevon if explicitly instructed, just to me it's a hack along the lines of "Aeris with Restore and Fire Materia." Which is fine once in awhile, of course.

Piggyman: Luna is a Middle, if not a great one. That sleep is pretty accurate and her buffs never expire. (Think she was originally a Light but upgraded out of it a long time ago.)

Luna is deceptively acceptable as a Middle, yes. Sleep => buff => outslug. The healing is shoddy and so is the speed, but the status and buffing sell her in. She's a better Middle than the likes of Ryudo, so to speak.

If by most standards you mean ones that don't scale his HP at all, since the most generous scaling interpretation of his HP that I've seen and consider sane puts him at 1.35 PCHP and 10% counter healing off of that is... well, negates the truely inept at any rate.

Now then, if what you actually meant was the average light's ability to not get pasted by Ultima considering the healing counters then uh good question, but then again I am not at all inclined to be kind to the space tick so I'm probably not the person who should answer it.

Didn't realize her Sleep + buffing strategy was so effective. Thanks guys, duly noted.

Replaced Luna with Pikachu, whom I'm fairly certain is a Light. ^^;

Heavy: Ray (Secret of the Stars) - Either this or Leona, and I think Ray fits here a bit more solidly than she does.
Middle: Lucas (Mother 3) - Not sure whether he'd do better here or in Heavy. Eh, speed probably sinks him.
Light: Mallow (SMRPG) - I'd like to say he's fairly competent here.
