First RPG played: If you wanna get REALLY technical, Island of Kesmai on Compuserve in 1990. Yeah, I played an MMO before they were cool. *hipster glasses*
I remember nothing about it though. First "real" RPG played, FFVII PC around when it came out, but I didn't get very far then.
First RPG completed: Breath of Fire 4...? Maybe. Technically I might have completed Pokemon Blue first, but I don't remember and didn't think of Pokemon as an RPG at the time.
First SRPG played: FFT.
First SRPG completed: Also FFT. Played it a bit at a friend's when it came out, returned to it when I was able to play games on my own.
First ARPG played/completed: What counts? Eh, going by my internal rankings, Star Ocean 2 I guess.
First handheld RPG played/completed: Pokemon Blue.
First console owned: Gamecube.
First video game played: A clutch of long forgotten games for the
EPSON QX-10. First console game, Super Mario Bros.
First RPG replayed: BoF4.
How well do they hold up now (scale of 1-10):
FFT - 10/10, needs no explanation on these boards.
BoF4 - 10/10? Yeah, I guess it has about the same level of flawedness as FFT, so that's justified. If anything it's gotten MORE impressive over time, you could release it today and it wouldn't look too incredibly dated.
FF7 - 7/10. Good but somewhat dated. Unlike BoF4 you can definitely tell it's a PSX game.
Pokemon Gen 1 - 7.5/10. You know, for all their ridiculous flaws (and there are many, don't get me wrong), I still think Red and Blue are the best Pokemon games.
SO2 - 3/10. This game is not good. I would say I don't know how I ever thought it was good, but actually, I do know, I was under peer pressure and self pressure to believe that RPGs were Cool and Good and this was a cutting edge RPG therefore it was Awesome.
The Gamecube - 9/10. Still has the best designed controller of any major console ever. Didn't have the deepest library of titles, but the good games it had were REALLY good, and there were enough of those to consider it a decent stable.
EPSON QX-10 madness - 9/10. I actually still remember a lot of those games, and I'm really sad they're lost to history as a lot of them were actually good and very impressive for amateur 1985 PC game coding. Like a Space Invaders derivative that expanded into a campaign mode, and a quasi-realistic, instrument heavy flight (and combat) simulator for Star Wars ships.
Super Mario Bros - 7/10. Is a game. Is challenging. Is Mario.
