So it's nearing the end of January, and we really need to confirm a where and when sometime soon for the con.

Seems Gate's gonna have issues hosting it this year, so we should at very least lay out our options whose willing, viable, etc.

Andy and I are willing to help arrange a Bay con again, but we don't have space to host much of anything other than an international or two who needs a place to crash. We also can't float the rental fees of a house without other people paying in advance, too.

So ... yeah.

Right now I think I'd like July 11-14 best, regardless of where it is. (July 4-7 also works, but being Independence Day I dunno how many people want to spend time with family/friends).

On the topic if I co-host with Dhyer in south Cal.

The bad news is my effort to persuade my mother onto a trip to open up the house is unsuccessful. So I won't be able to let anyone stay over night in my house.

The good news is, outside staying, all the rooms and the 3 TVs are still free for us to use, and the hotels around my home is reasonably priced too roughly $90-$120 a night. And they are only 10 minutes away too.
I also have on extra car to spare as well.

Requesting my day offs from work isn't too hard either, I can host anytime between July to September as long as no emergency occurs.

We're roughly a month out from when people really need to start solidifying their plans, so it'd be good to know at least when and/or roughly where it's going to be.

So, general lists of items for LA
Cars- Me, My bf?, Niu (2), MC?, Andy/Ashley?. I think overall that this seems doable

Airports- Burbank is awesome. Flying out of it is not expensive, but no ideas about flying in. LAX is a clusterfuck. Horrible location, horrible traffic (and generally a nightmare for inbound passengers. Not like this will be to applicable, but do not approach all windows with a same-sex partner, because there are assholes there who will refuse to process you together). This is the main reason that I would tend to not want to have con here.

Extra space for internationals- Should be workable. Will be some spare space at my parents' house, which is where I woudl also probably be crashing.

Late and tangential, but I'd support this date. If it happens a weekend earlier, I'm probably missing it since my -flight- to the US can't be any earlier than the 4th of July, and it'd force me to take a plane to LA as well (and I know firsthand how much of a hellhole that thing is). 11-14 would be a lot more amenable to my own schedule, although it'd require me to travel in Ashley's/Andy's car trunk, but that was to be expected.

So if we actually have the con in SoCal, where is the "con" going to be? Niu's? If we can find any way to swing it, I'd VASTLY prefer that we have a larger central space to hang out in. Even if all we end up doing is splitting into various rooms to play games all day, and never leave, it will still end up being more con-like if we have the luxury of swapping between things without having to hop into a car and drive somewhere else.

Also, of note: our car is a tad smaller than it was during the Con in El Cerrito/Bay Area, but it should comfortably seat 2 and can squeeze in 3 if necessary (and 4-5 if we illegally use the hatchback space to stack a few smaller folk).

Don't have much to chime in with other than like if not a place then a time would be great because I am chomping at the bit to book my leave for work so I have a target to not kill myself before.

As long as I have times I can book tickets to LA and back then organise domestic crap after the fact.

In other news I am kind of gunning to visit SF this year regardless of Con so I can but some coffee from Herr Direktor Funranium directly sans shipping fee I normally pay. Sooooo given my love of visiting BC Crew as well, might be a west coast extravaganza? Dunno.

My house has more room if compare to Dhyer. More if counting the yard at the back (BTW, even I didn't use it myself, that yard can be used for BBQ).
And location ones, food is very easy to get around my area. The city I am in is literally filled with restaurants, even though predominantly Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. They are all within walking distances from the hotels I have in mind.
The common food chains and groceries stores are also within 10-15min drive distance for those that can't take Asian style.
If there are enough people who have money to spare, I'd even like to conduct a food tour around the area.
The bookstore and the arcade that I want to bring you guys to are also closer from where my house is.

The only thing I couldn't cover would be if there are people who wants to go to any of the amusement park in SoCal.
Excluding the Universal Studio from the last con, there are still 3 other parks down here that I know of (Disney, Knott's Berry Farm, 6 Flags), and I am not familiar with any of them.

The Amusement Park thing of last year was due to several circumstances that worked together, and more of a "Pre-con" thing anyway, I don't think it'd be a big deal unless a large number of people are really dying to go there.

Not saying I'm against it, just saying it's hardly a priority to be concerned about.

Okay, we'll it sounds like there's no dissent against the idea of July 11-14 at nius place for the central location. I'm about ready to book some flights. If i don't do it now, I won't be able to schedule the time off for it.

At worst, we could always meet up in a hotel lobby, right?

Also, it'd be nice to have a place to stay since Cali is so far from Florida, but if I can split a hotel room, it shouldn't be too bad.

So far it looks like DLC8 will be July 11-14th in Los Angeles.

Depending on where Niu's place is, there's probably at least some temporary shelter available if people are willing to commute (especially so if you want to get there early/leave late). I still have this teeny tiny infinitesimally small possibility that I'll be unavailable for the Con, but if that 0.01% chance happens Andy will still be available. Driving is still cheaper than flying, and having a car in SoCal means everything. So.

Andy and I might have somewhere for people to crash, but if we do it's a ~2 hour commute from Niu's -- likely for pre/post-Con only. We will almost definitely have a car.

Also, depending on money situation and job situation come summer, I am SO up for Disneyland. I haven't been in a while and it's totally worth the exorbitant fees to get in. Won't have any Soppy Special discounts, alas, so everyone would have to float themselves for admission.

If you're up for a real theme park (ie, has cool roller coasters), Six Flags is pretty awesome. I would also be up for that one.

I've never been to Knott's except during Halloween, so I know nothing much there. I'd be up for that, too, but would prefer the other two.

That said, they're all a bit of a drive from LA proper. And it would definitely have to be a full-day thing to make it worthwhile.

Given that ComicCon is the following weekend and I am getting tickets (GODS WILLING -- I'll know for sure on Saturday), we'll still be in the area. If anyone wanted to do a theme park trip, I'd say after the Con is best.

If we do any amusement park, I'm thinking it being a pre-con thing like last year would be better.

As in, if we have the usual Thursday -> Sunday stint, and people who want to come early can go on the Wednesday before. It worked out last year, also implies the group will be smaller thus more manage-able.

Of course, if there's only a handful of people who want to go anyway, then the "smaller group" thing is moot, and those who want to go can go on Saturday or whatever.

Granted, again, hardly a priority; more important we get all the logistics out of the way. So far, the tentative July 11th-14th in LA area seems good for me, but I haven't confirmed it yet.

If we are having it in the LA area, whoever is hosting the Con (Niu?), I advise you to make a topic about the con, and keep tabs on whose going, maybes, etc. Additionally, making a "Travel" topic is advised as well, so you can keep track of whose coming into where.

True, anyone can make this, but I feel the Con Host is the one it matters for most and thus should be able to update freely. Also, it's advisable said Host keeps themselves attentive and available as much as possible in the next few months.

Just to check, do you guys think LA compares logistically to SF though? Hosting con would be fun, but probably more difficult than up there. Before we solidify things, we should probably balance that part of the equation since if we can do SF, I can see how it could be easier potentially.
