something easy, like hotel work.

hahahaha

Now now, let him find out for himself it's not all handing out fresh towels and complimentary blowjobs.

Cocktail night with friends at Iris's house, watching (and narrating) Magic Mike, arguing with a cabbie from Kinshasa  that I bet he speaks French but is lying and then only speaking French to him (which he then started speaking in French......) and waking up dehydrated with a flat stomach has made the last few weeks of my life bearable.

Now for munchy drunk brunching (:.... or just eating all day.

Austin is nice, just stay off the roads.  Worst drivers in Texas, and that's saying a lot.

I've done a lot of customer service jobs. Crazy people don't bug me. Crazy management, yes. But I'm pretty well versed in dealing with irate customers. And children. I'm sure hotel front desk work presents its own share of difficulties, but every job does. I feel particularly well equipped to handle the ones associated with front desk, provided management is as sane as they seemed at Embassy.

I got bored with my awesome low-stress private tutoring gig and decided to pick up a second job at something easy, like hotel work. I applied to three hotels and got three job offers. Also, while all of this was going on, I was randomly contacted by a new Tutoring business in the area which offered better hours, better pay, better student:teacher ratio, and best of all better management than the private school I was associated with, so I decided to upgrade. Fuck you, harpy boss!

So now I have two tutoring gigs - private (pays the most) and professional (more stable and long-term), and my choice of three hotel gigs to fill my free time.

Anyone have any opinions on my options: Embassy Suites (part time, $10/hr, high class beach resort, lots of employees, free hospitality training programs, opportunity to actually use my foreign language skills), Hampton inn (full time, 8.75/hr, cross training for all jobs in the hotel, benefits after 90 days, history of promoting from within and lots of available management positions to fill, but not as high class and seems to have a high turnover rate), And Candlewood Suites (part time, more flexible hours, 9/hr, extended-stay hotel, more responsibilities, lesser known but nice brand name, management seems unreliable).

Which one has the hottest boss you can sleep with?

In seriousness, look for better hours - if you have 3 jobs (not sure the time commitment on the tutoring, but...), you want to at least be able to schedule them effectively.

Austin is nice, just stay off the roads.  Worst drivers in Texas, and that's saying a lot.

I'll be walking/busing; after having consecutive convos with my friend (and one other internal MA that applied for a PhD at my uni), I'm discovering that everyone is abandoning the department. Sort of weird.

I've looked at some things about Austin, not much though. I hear it's a great biking city, ranks higher than Boston (and Boston people U-turn in both sides of traffic along four lanes) for biker friendliness (my major mode of transport) -- so I'm feeling really good about that.

IIRC, you live in Austin?

Yep it was a waitlist. Everyone accepted their offers, rejected. Hey. I came from podunk village and made it to an ivy league waitlist with less than five pubs under my belt. Well! Onto life again.

Today was pretty bad. Was late for my lab teaching because an emergency happened on the road in front of us, everyone packed like a sardine in the bus, then the lab was a gongshow. Trying to get instructions on how to run a machine by someone speaks in one word sentences incomprehensibly, panicked students due to getting their accuracy points back this week (not pretty), and a clusterfuck of terrible machinery, Excel shenanigans, and my favorite was me pushing the Print button on a printer and it spitting out quarterly sales information for the printer company. Okay then. Finally managed to run all the kids out 40 minutes late.

[18:05] <CmdrKing> Well that was brilliant.  Decide "eh, snow's covering up that wetness, should be fine".  Try driving into work, have to work to keep the car going straight on the main highway, start losing traction going up this hill maybe two miles from the house.  So I think okay, if I'm having trouble now, two miles from home, I have no business being out here after work (which is probably like 1 am)
[18:05] <CmdrKing> Then promptly get stuck in someone's lawn trying to get turned around.
[18:05] <CmdrKing> Oh well, very nice people with a four wheel drive pickup and a chain.  I should take them some cookies sometime.

And that's why my medium-term goals in life all involve leaving the state.

Good thing it happened there and not Boston. No one would have bailed you out and you'd be an internet star by now.

Mystery package on it's way to the USA. Sorry about the t-shirt sizes, one might end up as more of a bed shirt I dunno, I was wanting to send a bit of British but the store only had one size left for each one, if they don't fit the S/O could wear them maybe~ There is other stuff too  :)

I am graduating from college in two months.  Too bad the degree doesn't come with a shiny, high paying job attached.

The unemployment part is definitely the toughest thing about graduating. Holy -shit- it's easy to just get overwhelmed and hopeless. Congrats and good luck on your future career regardless - hell knows how long you've been plugging away at the degree goal.

EDIT: I kinda miss the times when I'd post like twenty times on G'morning topics every day.

I am strangely sanguine about job hunting. I figure if I totally strike out, I can just say fuck it and start looking at international options or grad school (ugh). I did enjoy England.

MAybe I can combine both and do my grad school at somewhere like Oxford for maximum LD trolling.

If you went to an Oxbridge college for a PhD I would stab you in the face in envy.

Three shots of coffee and I haven't trained yet.  Work to go the. Training again in the afternoon.  How much caffeine will I drink today?  No idea.  When do I think I will crash out?  Hopefully 7pm.

Been feeling sluggish this last few weeks, so I signed up for the gym today, as well as trying to cut my extreme addiction to sugar and drinking tea at night.

Hands shaking as I wait for bus to work, not sure if it from gym or from excessive caffeine.  Good start to day.

Tea before bed is okay Ciatos, just gotta get the right kind (something that isn't technically a tea specifically).  It is a good time to bust out the Rooibos.  Drink it black without sugar and you are good :).

Edit - that is stuff made without tea leaves, like Rooibos.  Rooibos doesn't have caffeine in it.
