I don't live in downtown/Back Bay; I live in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood in Boston but ~4 miles from Boylston Street. I have about six friends who couldn't get out, two friends that were runners and none who had children thankfully. Called a close friend only to hear her panicking, her sister was in front of the first bomb but wasn't severely hurt. So Copley is closed down today. I tried to ignore calls/texts because I was waiting to hear about other bombs that may have been set off and/or found (part commute, primarily fear) --- one found in the JFK library which was originally considered unrelated; according to WEEI, there was one found down on Comm Ave, which is BU's stomping grounds; Northeastern students were told to stay in, so I'm not sure if any bombs were near them. See, JFK is in "South Shore," or literally the Eastern Shore of Boston, and was much further from the bombing than where I live. I'm not sure they've released where the several other bombs were found.

Edit* going to toss three flowers there if security allows.

I just recently got back from the Arabian Peninsula and Afghanistan...fun times...

I'm now in Germany, where I'll be for at least the next two years. Must say...it's good to have some spare time again!

In other news, I'm trying to figure out how to get a certain boy to notice me.... Like...he definitely likes me as a friend, but I feel like I've been friendzoned, and the internet tells me boys don't have friendzones. I'm confused.

Friendzone is basically an asshole term made by people who feel they're entitled to obtain sex from girls they've been nice to in hopes of getting laid by them. I'd honestly just go out in the open and be prepared to hear the "I just don't like you in -that- way" speech and move on (if you're okay with just being friends, do so! Otherwise, yeah. But do what hurts you less in that regard).

Oh I don't know, there's a certain, for lack of a better word, velocity to romantic relationships. For practical reasons, it's best to get into one when you've known someone long enough that you know you like them but not so long that there's a well-developed friendship that will be potentially awkward if you make a move and they don't reciprocate (or vice versa). Just because the word friendzone is associated with entitled assholes doesn't change this basic calculus.

It is a thing that exists, and should not be confused with privilege/entitlement syndrome or the woeful tale of the nice guy. It's not always an easy line to toe without consequences.

It is a myth that boys don't have friendzones, though.
