Meeting with Elusive Professor actually happened. And she gave me an A-, and agreed to write my recommendation letters, and even suggested I definitely apply to two dream schools I'm still not certain I have a chance at.

Yay!

Now to fit in studying for the GRE (a week from tomorrow), writing everything for those apps, writing for NaNoWriMo, replying to recruiters, and art class homework, on top of work. Hrm. How many hours are in a day again?

I would normally recommend anyone take a year off from school, but FFS make sure you get your recommendations and other administrivia set aside before you do. I can't even imagine what I would do if I didn't happen to still live near campus. Suck and die, probably.

Interestingly enough, there's a damn good reason she was hard to reach for a portion of the time I was trying to contact her: she took a 2-year medical leave due to a breast cancer diagnosis. Welp, as excuses go, that's a pretty solid one.

Call with recruiter went well today. Will be scheduling actual phone interview for later this week. Then, if they like me, they fly me up to do an in-person round. My salary request of a 30%+ increase from my current rate did not phase them, so that's cool. Would be awesome company to work for, though it would mean relocating.

AT THE SAME TIME:
The company Andy, Laggy and I work at has been contracting. Our particular jobs are safe (... I think...), but my department may be facing cuts sometime in Q1 next year. That's why I'm seriously entertaining the recruiter's interest. In addition to this, my current manager is an awesome person and he's been giving us as much knowledge as he's allowed to impart (and then some). In our one-on-one conversation, he said I was strong, but of course he can't guarantee anything. I mentioned I'd be open to opportunities in the EU if it came to it.

So today, he says the EU has some positions in their marketing department, and if I'm interested he's happy to talk to the department head (who I work with from time to time anyway) on my behalf.

Um, heck yeah.

ALSO AT THE SAME TIME:
I am working on applications for graduate school. The programs are all Master's, and cover schools domestic and foreign (UK and Canada). None of them are in the Bay Area, or even California.

I'm in Toronto for the next few days for a conference. Does anyone have recommendations regarding particular things I should see or good restaurants? The DL Canadians are mostly from BC as I recall, but I figured I'd ask.

I don't visit downtown TO much but there's a few places that you may be interested in visiting:

a) The Eaton Centre is a good place for shopping and the streets around it usually have some sort of show going on. It's actually right on the subway line. Just get off at Dundas and you're pretty much there
b) The CN Tower, if you haven't been is in Toronto. I don't recall specifically where but you can probably do a quick google search
c) The University of Toronto (if you're interested in visiting campuses) is obviously there. Actually, more scattered around downtown Toronto, but certainly in Downtown.
d) As for restaurants, the one I recommend is Rodney's Oysters. They serve mainly seafood though, but it's very good. Also, the oysters are great if you've never tried.
e) There's a table top game store that has loads and loads of them, along with a weekly get-together-and-play-new games. It's called 401 Board games, if you're interested

When it is something you can justifiably expect to fail at though it is an entirely unreasonable response. 

If there was no risk of failing then it wouldn't have been difficult.  The reason for failing was lack of proper preparation on my part.  I need to get better at eating correctly before doing heavy weights sets.

Today I watched a for reals grown ass man stand on a seat in a bus shelter thing to avoid getting wet in a storm.  You are like 40.  You know this is futile.  Why are you taking up that much space on the seat that someone else could use if you just sat he fuck down.  You are going to be wet when a bus comes to pick you up or just drives by anyway (which is what happened).
