A week early, but yeah tah guys.

There isn't anything to get other than that moment where you open the box up and go WTF.  Welcome to my sense of humor completely unfiltered.  I was so close to putting "Gay Wizard Costume" on the shipping slip.

Edit - Well I lie, the statements put in the shoes is pretty clear me on a political statement.  Most of it is just hollow words though that go with the article of clothing somehow.

Also plz donate unwanted stuff to charity.

Fun times and Hotel Hijinks with Djinn:

So I've been working at the Embassy Suites for a few months now and for the most part, it's pretty fun. I like working with people and the job isn't too high-stress except during holiday weekends.

But this week has been different, and it had very little to do with Mother's Day.

I began training recently to perform the Night Audit shift. It's basically 8 hours during the middle of the night where all I do is some paperwork, occasionally give directions to a drunk guest, and play handheld video games or read books. Best of all, I can sit down the whole time and there's no managers around (not that they care if we spent the whole time on youtube so long as the paperwork gets done).

It's great, but it messes with your sleep schedule, and management hasn't been particularly quick to pick up on the fact that most human beings can't go to sleep at 7 AM and then be alert and ready to deal with 200 hotel guests at 11 AM. So I've been a little grouchy lately. It's not entirely management's fault, I know my boss is trying, but there's been some complications this particular week. Mainly that we suddenly got understaffed more quickly than anticipated.

You see, I was training for Night Audit because one of our two current Night Auditors is leaving. Additionally, his fiancee is one of our main day shift Front Desk people and they are both moving away soon. Okay, so the hotel was preparing for that. However, this week also saw another Front Desker hospitalized with a burst cyst in his -mouth-, and another Front Desker (my usual evening shift co-worker buddy) was just informed his mother had finally passed away from cancer. Less than a week before Mother's Day. Yeah.

So I volunteered to cover his usual shifts in addition to mine AND had to start Night Audit training all in the same week as we dropped down to half of our usual staff numbers. I'm a bit drained since I'm -still- working 2 other jobs AND working out 5 days a week.

And then yesterday I finally broke. Not so much from the work. The job is easy and I'm good at it. No, I broke because it was Colin's last week at the Hotel and I was stuck working with him for the evening shift. Colin is the Night Auditor who is leaving. Colin is a huge JRPG fan, a comic book geek, pretty clever guy. He's also a raging racist asshole and I now entirely understand why he was put on duty at Night Audit shift where he'd do the least amount of damage talking to -people-.

The previous few times I'd gotten to work with Colin, conversation was decently fun, we had a lot of interests in common and he's got a forceful, funny personality. He also is one of those people with no boundaries or filters. He's a bit abrasive, but whatever, most geeks worth talking to are abrasive.

Yesterday, he went on a short tirade about black people and it bothered me.

He'd made comments like this before, but I just assumed he was exaggerating for humor purposes. This time, there wasn't really any qualifications to his statements. He wasn't saying "Oh, those black people that just checked in were stupid/unintelligent/cheap/ugly/dishonest/poor/assholes/whatever.", he was making broad generalizations about the entire race. And yeah, he was trying to be funny, but there wasn't any joke being made. The humorous part to him was that they were black, and oh aren't black people terrible.

Maybe I was tired and I read too much into what he was trying to say? So I countered with, "Well yeah, those particular people were assholes, but it's not because they were black."

And then he launched into a tirade about how he used to be in the military and has lived in like 4 different states and he's never met a black person worthwhile and I lost it. He pushed me onto a soap box and I called him out for being a close-minded racist and an abrasive asshole in general for about an hour. And then had to work with him for the next 4 hours.

It was unpleasant and I was too tired to deal with him.

Now I have to go into work with him again today and it's his last day.

I have no idea how I'm going to get through this without going off on him or quitting mid-shift. And I'm still fucking tired from my stupid work schedule.

Wondering how it panned out? Best of luck.

At least one thing you can be content with is not having that problem of "wishing you had said something" after the moment.

Up in DC for a job interview. It took me an extra hour and a half to get up here last night because traffic was so appalling. It was heavy to bumper to bumper from just outside Hampton Roads all the way to Dale City. (A little over 100 miles. NoVa really is the worst; I blame Ciddy.

He started up his intolerant bullshit again, this time mocking some dude who came to check in because he had an obviously gay way of speaking. I yelled at him again. He asked me why I got so defensive. I told him it was because he was a racist asshole and it wasn't funny. It was kinda awkward for the rest of the shift. And I think he stole forty dollars from me while I was on lunch break, but I can't prove it was him. At any rate, it's over now.

Tell your manager.  The hotel quite possibly owes you the forty dollars anyway since this happened due to someone who was an employee (although I wouldn't press it), and it's possible that the employee hasn't received their final paycheck yet - which is quite possibly forfeit if they do something stupid like vandalize the hotel on their way out, or in your case steal from the till.  He'll go on the "do not hire in case of ever" blacklist for the hotel chain at the very least.

I appreciate the idea. And while it does sound nice, I don't have any proof that he stole it since I wasn't looking when it must have happened. More importantly, I'd rather not get a reputation for someone who goes crying to the boss to tell on my co-workers. That would not make me any friends at the hotel and I'm pretty sure I'd rather not bother to jeopardize my friendships with my other coworkers when the problem guy is leaving soon anyway.

Theft isn't something minor, that is something management should know about. It doesn't matter who did it.

That *might* be a genuine worry if your coworkers stole from the hotel and you were reporting on that.  However, the departing dude stole from youTell your manager.  (But not if you wait TOO long, then it looks suspicious.)  Only if your manager is truly dysfunctional will this get you "in trouble."

Also, you don't need proof.  A strong suspicion, a motive, and no other candidates are often enough.  This isn't a court of law; this is a business.

I'm pretty sure he stole from my till is the problem. If I report him it just looks like I messed up my cash intake and am trying to blame it on someone.

In all seriousness, if this guy legitly was ballsy enough to steal from your register while you were on lunch, there are good odds you are gonna lose more money/something else before the guy leaves. You really might want to consider heading it off.

Look, if the guy didn't take it and you report it, then you are slightly embarrassed and may feel shame for up to a full week afterwards! The horror!
If he DID steal and you DIDN'T report him, and he gets found out later, you look like an accomplice and some of the consequences go back to you.
If you're worried about looking like a rat, I don't really see that happening unless you start ratting everybody out.

Just tell your manager that you don't have proof but you have your suspicions, and leave it at that.

Cover your ass, dipshit.

Just echoing what other people have said, Djinn. Worst-case scenario in telling is that they think you're slightly less competent, which is something you can recover by showing them otherwise. Worst-case scenario in not telling is... what Zenny said.

So, I've been very lazy with jobs these last few months because uni in 4 months. Then, interview for a games store outta nowhere. Interview is two days away. oh gods i'm terrible at these things i have no idea what i'm doing :v

Having worked in a cash office where I balanced $50,000 and cashier tills would come up $50+ short several times throughout the year, I will suggest that this "shortage" really isn't anything unless it happens often. Second, if they have a camera, report it. If you did it, I can't imagine them railing you in public so long as this isn't any other colleague's info too.

Went to NYC 2 times now. Second time was righteous. I absolutely love Spanish Harlem and did not get lost in Central Park, the Jewish Museum was awesommmeees, shopping shopping, the end.

Final results were anticlimactic.

Job I interviewed for which was a PT internship: They liked me a lot. Enough that they wanted to bring in the VP of Marketing, and try to convince her to create a FT job for me. They just don't have it in the budget, though, not for another month. So I had to pass on that one.

Job I interviewed for on Friday that isn't the job I'm taking: They liked me a lot. They were getting ready to put together an offer, and have me come in to talk to the CEO. Unfortunately, Company I Am Taking Job From was just too damn fast for their timeline. Regretfully declined this one, though they did ask me to seek them out if the job I'm taking didn't work out.

So

I am indeed joining the Laggy and the Andy in the world of exploitative F2P vidya games. They liked me enough that they offered me a $3k starting bonus, in addition to the ridiculous salary and a promise to review my status in 2 months.

I start Monday.

... now I need to look into relocating, because I don't know how Andy handles it but I am not a fan of spending 2+ hours a day in traffic, commuting.
