PG&E (gas & electric) continues to be an amusing and infuriating piece of work.
Andrew and I have mentioned a few times that PG&E regularly doesn't give a fuck when it comes to billing. They'll randomly drop our automatic billing without telling us, then happily charge us monthly fees for, oh, 4 months with nary a notification letter. They've done this a few times to us, so we try to track it.
We moved in June, so we swapped our account from the apartment in Emeryville to our new one in Sunnyvale.
Or so we thought.
Today we got a letter in the mail that said, "Your apartment is currently scheduled to shut off because it has no services." So we go "wut" and check our online account.
Not only does our automatic billing not work, it turns out we switched our ACCOUNT to this address but not the SERVICES! Who knew?
So calling the office to get the services set up takes 10 minutes of a combination of holds and transfers. Then we ask how much we owe since, you know, June. Oh, they don't handle that, we have to call PG&E Billing! Which is, for some reason, an entirely separate department which requires yet another phone transfer.
PG&E being a publicly subsidized utility is clearly only working in their favor, since apparently they don't need to take money from the people using their services.
What the fuck, PG&E. What. the. fuck.
EDIT: This, by the way, marks month 6 of "here's a random charge out of nowhere that's going to cost you at least $400." I don't know why this has been happening, but it's been true since May. Replacing the brake pads, replacing the tires, speeding ticket, PG&E back-charges, random medical bills from the previous year... ugh. I wish I would stop feeling poor while making as much money as I am.
