(Round 6 -- #6 on their respective charts)
And back to starting on pop, ok...

Gauntlet thrown down. Country will need to get damn lucky to beat this one lyrically.
k-pop

Hmm...these are both songs in pretty similar genres, with some decent harmonies. I'm probably going to have to give them both another listen for the music category.
Country:

Oh, damn, country steps up to the plate with a song I've never heard before. Now I actually have to think.
Both fundamentally love related songs, where there has been some issue inserted into a relationship. For the country song, distance. For the pop song, time drawing a couple apart, and needing to get things back together.
Right from the start
You were a thief
You stole my heart
And I your willing victim
I let you see the parts of me
That weren't all that pretty
And with every touch you fixed them
Now you've been talking in your sleep, oh, oh
Things you never say to me, oh, oh
Tell me that you've had enough
Of our love, our love
This is a pretty damn strong opening for pink; probably the best lyrics in the song. You know, I've always heard relationship advice of "don't think you're going to change them", but what she's saying here is "I was changed, I was fixed by you.", which is intriguing. Going off of talking during sleep...well on the one hand, that sounds pretty flimsy, but on the other hand that's a route into the subconscious.
I'm booking myself a one way flight
I gotta see the color in your eyes
I'm telling myself I'm gonna be alright
Without you baby is a waste of time
Yeah, our first date, girl, the seasons changed
Got washed away in a summer rain
You can't undo a fall like this
Cause love don't know what distance is
Yeah, I know it's crazy
This is a little more straightforward--humans have chemical reactions to touch which is problematic for long distance relationships. Humans have an imprinting thing that happens when falling in love. And this is all very poetic ways of talking about it, but it doesn't make me think the way pink's opening does.
Just give me a reason
Just a little bit's enough
Just a second we're not broken just bent
And we can learn to love again
It's in the stars
It's been written in the scars on our hearts
We're not broken just bent
And we can learn to love again
Eh, ok sure. This chorus doesn't excite me too much, but it gets the point across.
But I don't want good and I don't want good enough
I want can't sleep, can't breathe without your love
Front porch and one more kiss, it doesn't make sense to anybody else
Who cares if you're all I think about,
I've searched the world and I know now,
It ain't right if you ain't lost your mind
Yea I don't want easy, I want crazy
Are you with me baby? Let's be crazy
Although this isn't exactly knocking me down either.
I'm sorry I don't understand
Where all of this is coming from
I thought that we were fine
(Oh, we had everything)
Your head is running wild again
My dear we still have everythin'
And it's all in your mind
(Yeah, but this is happenin')
You've been havin' real bad dreams, oh, oh
You still lie so close to me, oh, oh
There's nothing more than empty sheets
Between our love, our love
Oh, our love, our love
I don't know how I feel about this--there are definitely conflicts with the first verse, but both of them are explainable by the other's explanation. Maybe she dreamed that she heard him talking in his sleep. Maybe he's lying through his teeth and she did hear him talking in his sleep.
I wanna be scared, don't wanna know why
Wanna feel good, don't have to be right
The world makes all kinds of rules for love
I say you gotta let it do what it does
I don't want just another hug and a kiss goodnight
Catchin' up calls and a date sometimes
A love that revels and stills believes
We're the kind of crazy people wish that they could be, yeah
Yeah...straightforward, fun examples.
This is not bad, would cheerfully sing along to this, but it just doesn't have the layers of complexity that Pink's song has.
Lyrics:
1. Pop
2. Country
3. K-Pop
Music:
1. Country
2. Pop
3. K-pop
Thinking on it, seeing the lyrics of Hunter Hayes' song in print, they're not as good as my initial impression, but I was definitely latching onto something being good about that song. Fucking dueling bajoes and dueling fiddles. Pink's song has some pretty nice piano parts and nice harmonies. Beast has good harmony, but the instrumentals are...actually pretty awful.
