Smash Demo: Played around with everyone, here are my thoughts!
First off, game is Smash. It's faster than Brawl, slower than Melee, and...hard to assess otherwise because 3DS makes the game feel very different than both. Not sure if this is a quirk of the game or the controller, or a combination of both, but anyone who played the demo will probably attest to the game just feels odd compared to previous entries due to this, at least initially anyway. As far as the characters go?
Mario: Never played Mario much, so really can't say. What I can say is "WHY IS FLUDD STILL IN THE GAME!?"
Link: Definitely feels better. Link actually has killing power now and his recovery is notably improved.
Pikachu: ...is Pikachu. Some adjustments, but overall, still feels like the best "go to" character for beginners who is still solid in his own right.
Villager: A lot more fun to play as than expecting; his moves are silly but fun, and he's a little easier to grasp than I was expecting...
Mega Man: ...where as this guy is not easy to grasp at all. I've seen high level play of him and yeah, I can tell he definitely has a lot going for him, just requires using all of his options. Then again, he was promoted as being exceptionally unique and they got that part right, just feels weird. one thing that hurts and this may be the 3DS control aspect kicking in, is that whenever I try to use his Slide (the down tilt), I will use Flame Burst (his Down Smash) instead, which is a pain since his slide is a good "get in" option.
So yeah, OCtober 3rd can't come fast enough!
Chibirhythm Curtain Call: Good thing I have this! Anyway, just fooling around in solo songs, have about 3k Rhythimia, and unlocked 4 additional characters. Started with Terra, Zack, Serah, and Ramza because I like all 4, and have since unlocked due to hatbotting Firion, Bartz, AC Tifa, and Ace (someone from Type-0.) This game is pretty much the first game but with a lot more to it...which is fine, that's you needed for an improvement! ALso, way easier to unlock characters which is a huge "Thank god" moment because the original Chibirhythm had one of the worst unlock reqs ever (need to get 10 of randomly dropped items? Seriously?)
THAT SAID, I will now review the Collector's Edition CD That came with the game. This is from memory, so songs I don't recognize may not have their titles announced!
The CD has 20 songs on it, all from different games. The 14 mainline games are repped, along with 6 spin offs.
FF1:Final Fantasy Main Theme. Good choice, and as far as the "original version" goes, it's definitely way better than Prelude (which is completely absent on this disc.)
FF2: Rebel Army theme. About as good as you'll get from this game.
FF3: Crystal Tower. Solid choice; dunno if it's the "best" one, but still a good one.
FF4: Boss Theme. Good choice, don't think anyone would complain other than "it's not Battle with 4 Fiends"
FF5: Home Sweet Home. Yes, it's not Battle on Big Bridge, but they clearly wanted a non-battle theme and this is one of FF5's better songs so...
FF6: Searching for Friends. Good choice, much to the aiel's dismay.
FF7: Let the Battles Begin. Iffy choice; it's not bad, but FF7 has so many good songs, why go for this one? "Fight On!" (aka "Those Who Fight Further" aka "Still More Fighting" aka "That awesome iconic rocking boss theme everyone loves from FF7") would have been a far better choice. This isn't like FF4's scenario which while yes, wasn't "the best" they still chose a strong piece, FF7's just feels very...middling. And yet, it's not the worst choice on the CD simply because...
FF8: Blue Fields. THIS SONG. THIS SONG RIGHT HERE. What the hell? Ok, at least the FF7 Battle theme, while questionable, isn't a bad piece, Blue Fields just sucks. It's boring, slow, long, and I know there's a lot of good music in FF8. Even if you didn't want two battle themes in a row, there's still good songs like The Oath (though that might not be in the game?), Ragnarok's Flight theme, or something. Just grah, they chose probably the single worst choice you could do.
FF9: Those I Must Protect (aka that song that plays when Beatrix and Steiner beat up a bunch of Mistodons on Disc 3.) Good choice; may not be "the best choice" but FF9 has so many good songs, that'd be hard to do, so just getting a song that's good is fine by me (and after the choice for FF8's song...)
FF10: Battle with Seymour. See FF9; good song choice from a large list of potentials!
FF11: Some song I don't recognize, too lazy to check, but it was good sounding and distinctly stylized, so I won't complain! I was expecting something actually from the first game, so I'd recognize it, but whatever; FF11 has good music from what I've heard, this is just another one to add to the list.
FF12: That Dramatic Boss Theme Music that plays when you fight Gabranth, name eludes me. FF12 is bit more limited on good music because it has a lot of atmospheric pieces that don't really work out of context...this song isn't one of those, as it's actually decent stand alone, so again, good choice!
FF13: Sunleth Waterscape. No complaints, one of the more memorable songs from the game. Though why they didn't just use Blinded By Light, I dunno...ok, I do, it'll be explained later!
FF14: ...pass. While the FF11 song I didn't recognize, I remember it being good; FF14's kind of went in one ear and out the other. Dunno if it's because it was bad or because I have no experience with FF14 music while FF11 I have some so there was bias involved but meh, whatever.
FFT: Antipyretic. ...who the hell is going to complain about this one?
FF7AC: One Winged Angel. ...well, they had to sneak it onto there SOMEHOW, might as well go with the movie version, so they can leave room for...
FF7CC: Price of Freedom. This song. Pretty much the Antipyretic of Crisis Core.
FFT-0: We Have Come. I feel like this song would gain something from context; it's over dramatic, with a distinct theme (it was played in just about every Curtain Call trailer at some point as an EMS example!), but I dunno, knowing nothing about the game's OST beyond this song, I really can't comment.
FF13-2: Etro's Champion. ...see Antipyretic and Price of Freedom.
LRFF13: Crimson Blitz: And this is why FF13's wasn't Blinded by Light! Crimson Blitz is an inferior version of the song, but not inferior enough to whine about it, and frankly, "inferior Blinded by Light" is still better than pretty much the rest of LR's original tracks, so if you have to put LR music on there, might as well put this one, and it works for an excuse to use a second FF13 song in a sense.
Overall, it's a good selection of music. The FF14 song I don't know if it's the song's fault or my unfamiliarity with it, nor do I know if there are better songs in the game, so I won't hold that against it, the Type-0 theme is in a similar boat though more memorable, and FF7's theme probably could have been something notably better. So really, the only major complaint I have is "Why the blue hell is Blue Fields on this distinctly not blue CD?" As bonus points to this selection, no FF10-2 Music. I realized after listening to the whole thing how much of a bullet was dodged there seeing as FF7 and FF13 got both it's spin offs repped in Chibirhythm on the disc.
