I choose to believe that if you cut a guy and Dan Snyder immediately signs him, that justifies the decision without regard for any other factors.

A valid defense, but even so the entire Djax saga was really strange.

Yeah, damn. That is a pretty ironclad defense. But broken clocks are right twice a day, maybe?

"Nobody suggested the Colts owner had “ties” to drug trafficking, even though he was caught driving with controlled substances (prescription pills) and $29,000 in cash to do who-knows-what with. Instead, poor millionaire Mr. Irsay needs help, some wrote.

But DeSean Jackson is the menace, right? He’s just as bad as those guys he parties with because he threw up a Crip sign in a picture and he owns a gangsta rap record label. If only all record label owners were held to this standard, somebody might realize that Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg weren’t the bosses behind NWA. Jim Irsay lookalikes in suits were."

I dunno what I think about this article as a whole, but I do appreciate calling out horseshit double standards.

I think Richard Sherman's a shithead for the most part but he's right with the Irsay comparison.

The more I think about this, the more I believe that the gang ties are a convenient way not to have to say "we fired DeSean Jackson because he and Chip Kelly hate each other more than our fans hate Dallas."

Yeah, that is what I read into it as well. It wasn't contract demands and the gang ties isn't enough to cut a quality player. The only other thing that makes sense is the personality clashing.

The lot of the Lions fan is a sad one indeed. Still, I think Golden Tate is a very good pickup and should be able to work wonders across from Megatron, and we should be able to shore up the WR corps with someone like Mike Evans or maybe Jordan Matthews in the second round. Also, we basically exchanged Louis Delmas, who is talented but has a penchant for Psycho Crushing our own players and concussing them, for James Ihedigbo, who is solid and has worked with our new defensive coordinator before. There's a lot of turnover in terms of our coaching staff and we're using several inexperienced corners so there are still a lot of question marks. I predict a season like last season where we lead the NFC North briefly and then shit the bed.

Indeed. The Redskins look d one (and I'm not talking shit as the Packers have looked real bad too) and the Eagles look good on offense and special teams! The defense, well.

This season is going fairly well for the Lions so far but we lost a pro-Bowl caliber linebacker after a sack celebration for the year and one of our tight ends who is a  touchdown machine is out because of an "accident at home." Slightly better than an armshattering pizza accident but it is pretty embarrassing.

While teams like the Raiders, Bucs, and the Browns generally take a couple customary ass whuppings a year, it was a bit surprising to see the Pats doing the same thing. Amusingly, their pass defense had the best numbers in the league before this week, but that seems like an artifact of pretty piss-poor competition.

DeMarco Murray seems like a stud when he isn't injured. I remember watching him during OU games and he seems to be regaining his form from college.

That's what happens when you make God bleed. He ceases to be god.

Humor aside, it really does happen to EVERY team now and again. Just less often for the Pats. The whole SKY IS FALLING stuff is a bit premature, but man did they look bad that game.

What they look like is a team that is extremely poorly coached, especially on offense.  Which is more of a mystery than Brady playing poorly, if you ask me.  Where are the bajillion screen passes?

They can't develop WRs for shit and it shows. They have a hobbled Gronk and a decent slot receiver, and absolutely nothing else on offense for weapons. When Brandon fuckin Lafell gets as many targets as he did last week, something is wrong.

Belichick was also incredibly conservative with his play calling, punting on a 4th and 2 in Chiefs territory down 14 when he always would have gone for that in the past. Maybe it's a reflection of a lack of faith in his skill players, but there are dudes from the patchwork set of wide receivers last year that are absolutely useless this year (Dobson, Thompkins, Amendola). I think it's a function of shifts on the offensive line, which can't protect him for shit. Cameron Wake and Khalil Mack (who looks like a beast) completely destroyed the line, and Tamba Hali and Justin Houston got to Brady with regularity as well. Brady basically has enough time to make his first read before getting obliterated.

Also, let me point out that it is weird as a Lions fan to see their defense play up to potential. Jim Schwartz was married to the Wide 9 and teams knew exactly what to expect every play, but Teryl Austin (from the Ravens) is using a lot of hybrid fronts and moving Suh and Fairley around the lines a lot (including some plays where they are both overloaded on one side with Suh as a DE, which is ridiculous). The interior pressure is aiding a somewhat questionable secondary, but players like Darius Slay  (he did great shadowing Jordy Nelson) and Glover Quin have also taken big strides in coverage. Deandre Levy also looks All-Pro worthy after a few weeks. If only Tulloch didn't celebrate that sack!

The offense has actually played less to their potential, although a lot of points were left off the board because our old kicker missed four very reasonable field goals. However, Golden Tate was an excellent pickup who has great hands, and there is now a plan on third down that isn't "throw some bullshit to Calvin."

The NFC North is still very open and competitive, and even the AP-less Vikings may do okay with Bridgewater instead of Cassel. It will be interesting.

This thread isn't very active but that Lions Cowboys game was horseshit.

The flag pickup was horseshit, as was Dez Bryant not getting penalized for running out onto the field to contest it. But the Lions also lost that game. All but one of those penalties they gave up in the red zone were earned (and one was an on-the-field call I'll give the refs). They also shanked that punt right mightily, and had some lucky calls in their favor too. They still should have won this game.

I agree that the Lions could have played better down the stretch but even on the Cowboys' last drive, there were holds on the touchdown, an illegal contact nocall on Megatron, a hold that should have offset the Levy holding call, and some others. The shanked punt and conservative playcalling down the stretch did not help, but had they correctly called pass interference or penalized Dez, that's basically a ten point swing since the Lions would be in field goal territory instead of giving up a touchdown. A stats website (advanced football anaytics) wrote and article showing that that picked up flag was worth basically 12% in the Lions' win percentage, which is huge.
