If Eternity Should Fail - Iron Maiden

Creepiest Intro/Outro ever? Also, The Book of Souls is probably the best Maiden album since Somewhere Out in Time. It's still in the prog metal vein as the post Brave New World albums, but also brings back some of their raw 80s edge. Makes for good balance overall.

Protomen - Hold Back the Night

They released two singles from Act 3 (edit: that is sadly not out yet but in production) and both are great. Very obviously doubling down on the 80s epic rock style which makes me kinda sad because I liked Act 1 better than Act 2 in hindsight, but it's still great anyway. Hold Back the Night is very reminiscent of what Rush and Led Zepplen's baby would look like and that is pretty dang cool.

This album has a strange psychodelia vibe that sometimes reminds me of Hotline Miami's soundtrack. This honestly isn't a bad thing.

It's an extremely eighties rendition of their best song. Somehow this works.

Busted open the old boxed set for the first time in years. I think I like these guys more than I used to? But mostly this makes me wonder exactly what percentage of Uematsu's youth was spent listening to ELP. One presumes a significant proportion. Dancing Mad's DNA is everywhere in this song.

Digital Devil Saga 2 OST: Hunting ~ Betrayal

I was listening to the first soundtrack on the way home from work today and kinda wishing I had the second because Divine Identity, right? But mostly I was remembering playing this ten years ago (it was the first thing I did in my new apartment. Okay, after watching Star Trek VI) and it being the biggest pile of what in the world is even happening on my screen that I'd ever played. Maybe still is. That kind of response is worth a lot to me. I kind of want to replay it now, but then I doubt I could put up with those dungeons a second time.
