If you've felt that way before today, why didn't you do anything about it?

The part where I still remember how difficult it is to fit in as a new player in mafia, or the fact that I was right about Keeshi, another new player here? I don't know, I wonder why. It'd be a guess for me, too, but at this point I'll have to choose the scummiest, period, and not the scummiest-while-scumtells-are-downplayed-due-to-newbieness player.

What are you trying to say with this? You say you're going to go ahead and vote me soon. I'm saying I find you both suspicious. You go 'Hay Shale is lurking' wink wink, nudge nudge. Are you hoping I'd try to save myself and town from a mislynch and jump at the chance?

That just makes you look scummier in my eyes.

No, I was saying I find it suspicious that Shale just vanished when we started talking about nuking each other.

Yeah, I find you for suspicious than he, but it just caught my attention after making that going "Guest" comment.

Alright. I just found it weird, that's all. Very understandable, given the circumstances you're in, but just weird timing. I thought you might have been that "hidden" member there, or a guest.

Okay, let's see. Do I want to resolve this soon? It'd probably be for the best. I'll be active late tonight my time when you get up, Cor, but I'll be tired and overworked by that point, and my frame of mind won't be much better tomorrow when I'm working on three hours of sleep.

So. Corwin has been straightforward with his posts. Ryogo has...not. That makes Ryogo look worse to me, but I'm not completely discounting the possibility of a first-time player in over his head. So...

Ryogo, what's your assessment of Corwin and me? What are the indications, respectively, that each of us to is scum? For the moment, I'm not interested in hearing any defense of your behavior, just what you think of ours.

Well, in the past, neither of you seemed really scummy to me. That's what has be thrown off. So which ever of you is scum has done pretty dang well.

I've never seen anything scummy from any of your past posts. I'll have to go read the thread again to make sure though. I think I mentioned you maybe once Shale, for not posting much at the time.

I've been going off of what people had said today. The roleclaim of a doc is almost too easy, and I can see the scum doing that to try to sway a vote another way. On the other hand, I've gone the whole game believing there is a doc which sways me to your side. I can't think of any other reasons that there was no nightkill on day 2, unless Cid did all of that just to throw an extra wrench in this day. Corwin suggests that there could've been a town roleblocker. However, I know that this can't be, since I'm town, and he claims town as well.
This leads me to believe that you are the other town.

Corwin has been very straightforward with his posts, and I've agreed with almost everything he says. This leans him towards town to me. However, going off what he's said so far today, he seems the more scummy of the two. It's mostly the roleclaim that gets me. I was so damn sure that there was a doctor in the game. You saying that you are it, and him claiming that he's a Vanilla townie afterwards makes me say Corwin is scum. I know I'm a town. I've got nothing else to go off of. Corwin's constant nudging of me now also gets me. I don't think I've seen him like that before. He believed that your doc claim was pure crap, and now has gone to attacking me on the basis that I believe your doc claim, and I'm trying to say that he is the scum. This leads me to think he is scummier.

Like I said, I'm leaning towards Corwin for my vote. I can't get any other evidence.

Alright, I'm out for the day, and may be back later on in the evening. I'm going to hold off on the vote, Since I just recalled he's heading to bed for the night. I forgot he lives on the other side of the world. I'd rather give him another chance to defend himself before condemning him to death.

Shale also hasn't posted a response, and I know he's around. I did what you asked of me, and not so much as a peep? I also know you've been on the board, and have seen the post. I figured you'd have something to say at least. But now its been a half an hour, I know you've looked at this thread at least 3 times after me posting. Weird. We'll see how things play out later. I'm off to a tutorial. See ya guys.

Okay, taking a break from work and finishing up the topic reread. Sorry this took so long.

You're "leaning" Corwin? If you believe my claim, then what else is there to consider? If I'm town, and you're town, Corwin is scum. Equivocating when the evidence says otherwise doesn't look good.

Anyway, on Ryogo's side, I'm looking at his interactions with Sopko. He names him as a top suspect - nay, the top suspect on Day 1, here:
http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php?topic=673.msg13368#msg13368. This post unvotes him, and has the odd phrasing "that's not enough evidence for Day 1," which is kind of the exact opposite of usual Day 1 logic: http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php?topic=673.msg13517#msg13517. You never make a serious or semi-serious push to get him lynched again; you each mention each other as lurking a few times, but never with an accompanying vote, just a verbal prod.

Oh, and speaking of which, something I noticed and feel like pointing out while I remember it: Later on, here, you would comment that one thing making you more OK with Soppy's brief posts was the fact that he seemed to do the same thing in Post Restriction Mafia, when he was town. I actually happened to see you looking through the post restriction topic before writing that (woo, stalking).

The other thing I notice is that on Day 4, when the last scum becomes...well, the last scum, your content drops like a stone. The "I don't have anything," line, combined with lots of indecision and equivocation on who you're going to vote for, which continues up to the present day.

Re: Sopko, Corwin was also pushing him Day 1, but not nearly as hard (Never called him the top suspect, for instance), and calls him out in some depth for lurking later on.

Leaning Ryogo more strongly now.

Alright, I know you've read this Shale (Whoo, stalking forum members some more!), so I know you're telling the truth about being town. Otherwise, you would've ended this game right now. I'll say again, I'm town too. I know you currently don't believe me, and are leaning towards the voting on me with Corwin. But I'll say again, don't do it.

I know I've made some dumb mistakes over this game. Apparently some major ones toady. At least consider the fact that this is what the scum would've counted on bringing me into this day. Corwin, the guy who defended me the whole time suddenly going around and saying I must be scum because of all the things I've done? I know there seems to be a stronger case on me than there is on him, but the stuff I'm saying is the truth. I don't know of any other way to convince you. I've tried what I know how to do... If it isn't good enough...

Well, we lose. Either way, good game guys.

Of course Corwin's going to be attacking you - I was almost certainly town (and by virtue of not hammering him, am now elevated to confirmed town). Whatever side he's on, you're the only option for him to attack.

Still reviewing Corwin, alternating with actually doing work.

Alright, I've gone back, and tried to find some links between scum and Corwin.

Start with this: http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php?topic=673.msg13309#msg13309

Sopko on the little spat between Rat and Cor. Told Andrew to drop it, saying the fight was "nothing". I know thats shaky, but its a start.

Corwin goes in with a vote on Sopko, and leaves it there for a good deal of the day, then finally removes it as everyone goes either OK or Excal. Sopko gives almost no mention to the vote, basically ignores it.

Nothing Day 2, Corwin was after Keeshi until the cop claim, as was I. We both switched votes after the cop claim.

Then on day 3:
Corwin: http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php?topic=673.msg14071#msg14071
Otter's Response:http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php?topic=673.msg14075#msg14075
Sopko's repsonse to Otter: http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php?topic=673.msg14080#msg14080

Sopko deflects some of Otter's reasoning about Corwin's thoughts and tries to clear up some of the old loose ends with Corwin. (I.e, the spat between Cor and Rat)

Corwin then begins to use Sopko's post as a launcher against Otter. http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php?topic=673.msg14082#msg14082

Sopko puts some fire on both Corwin and I, but more fire on me. http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php?topic=673.msg14219#msg14219

http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php?topic=673.msg14223#msg14223
Corwin then quick douses any and all fire thrown at him. Says his words are being twisted.

http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php?topic=673.msg14320#msg14320
Sopko goes on about how there was no need for that kind of comment, and leaves it at that. I find this weird.

http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php?topic=673.msg14457#msg14457
After the dropping of Sopko, goes and rereads the posts by him, and begins his cases on me, completely blowing off anything Sopko has said about him.

That's all I could find linking any of them, or me. The problem this whole time has been that Sopko has constantly clumped Corwin and myself together. There's not much else out there with just him in the posts made by the scum. I'd say it was deliberate, especially on Sopko's part to clump us up. Hell, I knew I was going to make it here today if I didn't get lynched. Scum wouldn't have nightkilled me. They wanted me here because of the chance of me screwing up/not knowing what to do. And it seems to show. It looks like I dug myself a nice little grave with the assumptions against me now, and I took the 50/50 guess to just end it before it went along any farther and I screwed up more. I actually made the right vote, it seems. There's been no bandwagon hammer on Corwin. Please let it go the right way Shale. I'm telling you, I'm town.

I'm alive, I'm done with deadline (four whole hours of sleep last night! Rock.), and I'm working up a complete inventory of you two and the flipped scum's posts. Feel free to point out anything you think is an egregious scumtell from the other side, but I won't ask either of you to make a full-blown case on the other, as it wouldn't be fair to the townie - after all, you know who the scum is for reasons totally unrelated to his behavior, so proving it by behavior alone would be dicey at best.

Okay. Ryogo has acted scummy all game. Is this really under dispute by anyone, Ryogo included? His defense had been "Like I said, I'm a newb." and variations thereof. All the time. The specific quote comes from page 1, and Ryogo's playing hasn't changed one bit since. Even during my first game people didn't really care after a few game days, and I didn't even throw it around nearly as much. I can't believe scum is about to coast all the way to safety using this method.

Smodge, who keeps on acting scummy every single game despite being... probably in more of them than most people here. His scummy behavior either got him an early grave or got people to ignore him. And then he played scum, and scum won because no one really took his scumminess seriously.

Tom had to get copped to get lynched, and even then it wasn't a done deal. Quite a few people thought someone unrelated (!) or Keeshi herself were scummier, and only a breath of common sense saved us from making a horrible a mistake that day. I was filtering him to a degree, as I also often do with smodge. Without Keeshi's investigation, roleblocking scum would've remained in play.

Back to Ryogo. Let's repeat Ryogo's endgame defense, in his own words, shall we?

Quote
I still don't know what to say. I know why I'm here this day. It IS so I can be manipulated to do someone else's stuff and get the scum bandwagon going. I'm the newb, both of you know that. You also both know I've never been in a LYLO situation, which is favourable for the scum. I've also been dropping scumtells left and right, from what I've gathered from other posts. What scum WOULDN'T want me in this situation?

He acknowledges his scumminess. But it's all apparently a conspiracy theory meant to capitalize on that and place him in LYLO. Which actually automatically clears him.

No explanation, really, on why this hypothetical scum would do that to him if he were really to be cleared by something like this. But consistency and logic with Ryogo's play this game? I think that'd be asking too much. He doesn't really need to use it -- he's scum and he knows who the town are. Making cases against them on evidence he blatantly knows is false thus leads to things like that. So what's left? An appeal to emotion. Keeping on repeating "I'm town, I'm new, please believe me".

And who can forget occasional gems such as this? http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php?topic=673.msg14966#msg14966

Or him agreeing with you without actually reading what you claimed, as his words countered it? Except no, he says he phrased things badly. I'd like to ask how so many things keep on being phrased in ways that sound exactly opposite.

I've been blinded by my desire to give new players a chance all this game. That he supported my case on the lurkers also has been a factor, probably. Whatever, you not hammering me when Ryogo blatantly tried to force an early lynch in lylo (while admitting he knew it wasn't done!) pretty much cements you as town, so simple elimination means Ryogo must be scum. Eh. Seems consistent with my past record of guessing at roughly two thirds of the scum and being completely blindsided by the remainder. Yakumo in the restrictions mafia comes to mind.

What else can I say? If I could vote twice, I'd have done it and won the game for us, but it's pretty much up to you.

Okay, I've gotten to the point where rereading things just sends me around in circles. I've thought it through, second-guessed myself, second-guessed the second guess, considered voting counter to my suspicions on general principle, flipped a coin, reread the topic, taken a nap, and pretty much repeated the whole cycle, and it's time to make a decision before I drive myself insane.

Final final votecount:

Corwin (1): Ryogo
Ryogo (2): Corwin, Shale

And so it was that only three of the ringleaders remained. People were quick to accuse the odd man out in this equation...or the odd woman, really. "She's a witch! Burn her!"

"You can't burn me, I'm already dead!" Hildegard retorted. "And besides, I ran an abbey! You can't be much holier than that short of being the pope, now can you?"

A lone voice yelling "Burn her anyway" was quickly shouted down, but others spoke up against her. "Aha, but a woman can't be the pope! Gotcha there, haven't we?"

Flustered, she started again with a "That wasn't really my point," but the crowd was incensed and longing to see an end to the whole affair. Many were past the point of listening to reason, so a few hearty "Whoever heard of a woman writing a symphony anyway" remarks was all it took to rouse them into action.

And so, the last innocent victim was flung down to an eternity of endless "Rawhide" covers.

Ryogo, AKA Hildegard von Bingen, 1098-1179 (Vanilla townie) was lynched!

After that, it was just Handel...and someone else. The "someone else" celebrated their apparent victory by framing his hands on either side of his body, as though holding a phantom guitar, and producing a noise which, to classical ears, was akin to high-pitched shrieking.

Naturally, Handel was quite perplexed by this display. "Did you just...did you just play air guitar?"

The heretofore nameless composer shrugged. Something akin to chanting, just on the edge of audibility, could be heard as he spoke. "Well, so what if I did? It's clinically proven to reduce air pollution, you know."

Handel gave the man a sidelong glance. His last remaining comrade was a blond man with a flamboyant (and, to 18th century eyes, tacky) style of dress. "...Who are you, anyway?" Handel asked.

The chanting grew louder. Words could be made out now. "...happy happy happy, everybody's happy..."

Yngwie Johan Malmsteen, Swedish shred guitarist extraordinaire, grinned. "Ah, well, as to that...I don't really like these postmodernists all that much, you know, but this was the only way I could get in. No hard feelings, right? I mean, I got to hang with Beethoven for a week. Who wouldn't do anything for that?"

A pulsing electronic rhythm, monotonous and deafening, filled the land. "HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY, EVERYBODY'S HAPPY."

Malmsteen put a sympathetic hand on the Baroque composer's shoulder, Handel looking horrified beyond words at this turn of events. "Hey, sorry about this, man, but we're taking over," the guitarist said as the chanting permeated every inch of reality. "You should probably prepare for the coming of Goz--er, our leader."

"HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY, EVERYBODY'S HAPPY."

And so everyone was...or else. The Benevolent Dictatorship of Minimalism kept everyone in line under threat of exile. After suffering from just a week of slide guitar and banjo music, the classical composers were broken and not apt to resist. Milton Babbitt ruthlessly interrogated the few resistant ones, tormenting them by remixing their most famous compositions into a mangled electronic hodgepodge and forcing them to listen to it until they fell apart. In time, order was established and all was officially well. Composition was strictly regulated and no one strayed from the officially acceptable conventions.

And there was a performance of John Adams'
Nixon in China every night, every week, for eternity.

At least until some upstart rockers led by a curious individual known only as "Prince" initiated a revolution. But that is a story for another time...

Scum win!

Yo. This is actually wrong, Ryogo. I didn't keep you around since I wanted you at lylo or anything, it just happened as people weren't in the mood to lynch you. I actually planned to go for 'no kill' the last night, but Cid wanted the game to end that day so I had to pick someone. I figured Shale had to be BP, so it was either you or Alex to kill, and... I dunno, I guess you lost the cointoss?

I guess. And stuff.
