anything from late June through first half of August is fine by me.  pretty sure I should be available for the 11th through 15th (I think Professional Development week starts right after that, assuming I still have this job.  This is less cynicism and more me in a legitimate "????" scenario.)

Other details I tend to work out over time like sleeping and such.  Based on how history has shown, I tend to be the one who gets the hotel room so when things get more...secure? I'll do that.

I'm not even entirely sure that August 11-15 date will be late enough to ensure I won't have work, but I am determined to see if I can't negotiate making it work with my company since this time I have enough forewarning and it should be very close to when the vacation days are anyway. It would have been perfect last year, so assuming no major school reforms, it should still be fine this year though.

I would prefer earlier than later in summer due to having to save vacation days for October, but early in August would be fine. If NEB is off at the start of the month, like say Aug 4-7, that'd be nice.

EDIT: Just saw that NEB doesn't get off until the 4th. I would still be fine with 11-15 if that works out better.

Maybe.  Have some family vacation stuff in August that has yet to solidify, so it will depend on timing. I don't have dates for that yet, so can't say which times work better for me.
Rocky: you do know what an A-bomb is, right?
Bullwinkle: A-bomb is what some people call our show!
Rocky: I don't think that's very funny...
Bullwinkle: Neither do they, apparently!

I obviously intend to make this DLCon, but I do have a definite no-go for August 17-19, and would very strongly prefer nothing be happening August 16 or 20th either. It doesn't sound like that'll be an issue, but I figured I'd mention it anyway.

I'll probably be able to make it sometime after August 8th or so, but I'm still a maybe. I have to see how chips fall with regards to me moving back home, and how much money I have saved up/whether I have a job lined up for when get back.

Since it looks like y'all will be having a con in Canada land and most of us aren't Canadian, and I work with passports, I figured I'd talk some about getting passports.

SO

I'm doing the math for you, but US Passports are gonna run you 135 dollars. I'm making some assumptions here. 1)You're getting the book and 2)You're getting a first time passport.

Go here. https://iafdb.travel.state.gov/ Stick in your zip code. Apply at that place. When do you apply? My recommendation is at least 7 weeks ahead of schedule, but honestly, more than that if you live in California, you guys are backed up. Apply early. Not applying early will come damn near to doubling your total cost and might not get you a passport anyhow.

What do you need?

A birth certificate. The original or a copy directly from Vital Records. No photocopies. Valid ID. A photo. Have a professional take the damn photo. Did I mention 135 dollars? Yeah. That's it.

Do you need all that if you're just renewing? Mine expired just last year.

If it's a ten year passport (and also less than 15 years old, in good condition, and from a time when you were over 16) and you're renewing, grab form DS-82 from here

http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/forms.html

Send the old one, the form (black ink), the new photo, and 110 dollars (check or money order made payable to US Dept of State, put your name and date of birth on the check) to the address on the form. The routine service one.

I'm still interested, but per my earlier comment, Aug 4-7 would be outright no-go dates for me.

Vancouver's August weather is generally fantastic. It's around 70-80 degrees every day and rarely rains.

https://www.vrbo.com/816040

This is the place we are looking at renting for the Con. It's in a decent location for public transit both to the airport and to downtown Vancouver and not too far from our apartment and a host of restaurants. Since the turnout will probably be relatively lower, and a since a few of us live in the area anyway, we probably won't need a huge house.

For anyone who is interested, there is a Shakespeare festival going on in the city during the summer (http://bardonthebeach.org/). If anyone besides Grefter wants to come, we can try to plan an evening for that.

There is a non-zero chance I'll have a work conflict August 11-15, but it's only barely non-zero so it'd probably be fine.
