I think Birthright AI is the same old stupid from earlier games MC50.  Sounded like Conquest is different though? (ELVES confirm/deny?).  Even in Birthright on super casual mode when you do body pull they at least target for kills and will utilise pairing to do it (I have seen them ignore softer targets to go for a dual attack that will just perfect kill a bulkier target).

Also while demanding things from Elves, why did you look?  Now you can't unsee it.

MC50, you don't need to do that to yourself with terrible anime games.  That's what Fudo, Ephraim and Nitori are for.

You are better off not knowing.

And... That's straight up SMT plot too Fenrir.  P3 is all about that.

FE - slow progress but my castle is slowly getting bigger.

Persona and mainline SMT are really different in terms of tone! Persona has hot spring voyeurs, SMT has Baphomet orgies and vagina demons, which are all more Fenrir-approved.
It's hard to find two games more different in terms of atmosphere than Nocturne and SMT x FE , even if they're the same series.

Persona's massive success had to influence regular SMT somewhat at one point. It's very apparent with SMT4's sequel called SMT4 Final. It looks super anime. The main character is Edgelord (tbf demi fiend was pretty edgelord too, but he didn't look angry) female characters have swimsuits, etc.
Niu: does SMT4 Final have a hot springs scene?

I liked Agarest War Zero.  There, I said it.  I've confirmed myself to the 87th level of Super-Hell.

Flamebreak: Managed another winning run.  Spear Minotaur with a invincibility granting Shield Charge and Summon Turret.  Didn't upgrade a single ability and my damage output was terrible.  Thankfully some damn good positioning on the final boss got me through with a sliver of health.

Yeah can confirm.

I've also seen Birthright enemies attack units they do 0 damage to, which doesn't happen in Conquest. Not 100% certain I've seen this from non-Faceless, though, and there's a chance Faceless AI is different (though I've definitely seen human enemies attack vs. 0 hit...). I just did a map where literally nothing but the boss could break defence on Scarlet. The boss could do 4. (...)

They do it in Conquest also.  Reports of better AI in the new game are greatly exaggerated.

Faceless may? (I've never run into that situation.) But i can assure you that most enemies do not, it's well-documented. I've observed it myself, it's been confirmed by multiple other posters here, and have seen it described in Lunatic strats that people are already hammering out.

Oh, and it should go without saying, but enemies will still attack to do 0 if the attack will do something useful, such as if they are ninjas.

Conquest enemy units will totally attack for zero damage on Normal at least. Gotta play Hard or Lunatic for smarter AI I'd assume.

Yeah, on Hard enemies don't attack people they do zero damage to.  It ruined some Xander strats...

I was going to chime in saying I had seen non-Ninjas attack face for 0 damage to get one shot, but I am playing Good At Video Games mode.

Flamebreak: Did a normal run with a Musket Fairy whose abilities I don't remember.  I maybe had Festering Venom?  What was most important, was that I managed 550% attack speed when an average for going for attack speed run is normally around 200%.  With the Musket's stun passive I could literally stunlock any normal enemy to death.  I had a Flawless streak hit 20.

Yesterday's Daily Normal ended in 2nd place.  My Hard run failed badly, I wasn't used to the Zombie at all and the Nightmare was even worse.  Today's was a weird reversal where I failed completely on the Daily Normal because of awful terrain in the Phoenix fight.  Meanwhile I cleared Daily Hard so fast I might end the day as Rank 1 while the Daily Nightmare run was lost at the Nightmare Phoenix because telekenisis apparantly didn't want to throw the boss in the direction I wanted which screwed over my dodge area.  Cluster Bomb Dwarf was hilariously fun though.  The Rank 1 time for Nightmare is 11 minutes, which is faster than my Hard time which goes through half as many levels.  Dude's got game.

The Daily's also give out so much spirit exp that I've got like seven new races/weapons/abiliies to try along with unlocking Orc by getting enough God of Fury favor in the Nightmare Daily.

Fire Emblem Fates Conquest Hard Mode Classic The Middlingness: Beat Chapter 15.  Very...interesting chapter.  Most of those Ninjas can't really hurt Dragon!Corrin or the other Non-Azura PC, but they attack anyway.

Which leads to answering Elfboy's thing: Enemies do attack PCs with 0 damage in Conquest Hard.  usually they'll do so out of range though and in this case their options were limited.

More to the point, they were also Ninjas, so stat debuffs meant doing even 0 damage was meaningful.  Also they had that "-20% MHP in damage if attacking" skill which was legitimately threatening since if any of them could even do 1 damage, suddenly they can be threats.

Fire Emblem: The Game: The Movie: The Book: The Graphic Novel: The Experience.

Got Conquest, immediately purchased Birthright and played through that, though I'm currently on Conquest.

I did Birthright Hard/Classic right up until the very last 2-3 chapters, at which point I switched to Normal just so I could finish it up and get to Conquest.

Birthright was fun! Very classic Fire Emblem stuff, reminding me of a modern FE8 in a lot of ways. Including that a few characters started to just get so much better than the others. Difficulty was... weird. It would plateau and spike, instead of a steady progression, it felt like. Any chapter involving siblings seemed to increase the difficulty substantially, as well as maps introducing new enemy types. The last... 5? 6? Chapters felt like the difficulty just spiked tremendously over and over, though that might have been in large part due to my reliance on Guard Stance strats? Not sure. I really like the Support conversations with almost all the characters, and the plot is very standard "we fight for peace!" type stuff, so nothing too special there. Most of the characters did feel somewhat one-dimensional aside from some of the kids and the units you (can) get on either path. I will admit to not calling a few of the plot twists, though, so props for that? 9/10 Game for me, though. Would be 10/10 solely for gameplay and support convos, but the random difficulty spikes felt weird and wonky and not fully thought through. Would have preferred a steady difficulty curve.

Conquest has been... very very different. I'm starting it on Hard and unless I get walled or extremely bored I plan to try and finish it on Hard. On Chapter 12 so far, and I'm definitely understanding why people were saying the maps are very memorable. The characters are way more dynamic (except Effie) and I'm enjoying them much more, even past the support conversations. I don't like Niles, though. The enemies having skills and using proper strategy is a massive change and this path feels legitimately more tactical than Birthright did. It's also nice to have noticed some differences between JP version and Engrish version, including minor changes to enemy AI and skill loadouts (such as EVERYBODY moving at some point on Chapter 10).

I can attest to not every enemy attacking just because they can, though. In Chapter 9, I decided to try and be sneaky, and a significant portion of enemies never attacked even though they could kill one of my units, and this happened for a number of turns as I tried more and more things to bait them out. Ninjas will always attack though, because their attacks will always do something, as Meeple pointed out (and I think Elf pointed out at one point as well?).

I am pretty sure Ninjas will attack even when they do 0 damage because they still give stat downs.

ELVES confirm/deny?!??!??

Pokemon Birthright - Playing this on casual bads mode is kinda shit.  I was all psyched for PoFemon, but on scrub mode for bads the only enemies with skills are the Conquest specific ones or bosses that I couldn't capture so far (still pre Chapter 15).

I could have caught a Knight or something, but meh.

Edit - Not to throw shade at Fire Emblem Build It or like actual FE parts, those are fine.

Conquest:  Okay I did not give this game's writing enough credit.

I hated the characters because they were lazy rehashes of the kids from Awakening.  Then I was replaying the Xenologue because I like seeing Chrom and Frederick more than I like any characters from the new game.  I just happened to bring Odin along this time...  mind=blown.

You should play Birthright.

My Corrin is banging Jackob.

Invite Takumi (Long lost brother) in to tent

Corrin sitting on bed.

Takumi: What's all the noise, are you playing drums in here?
*Close up of face*
Takumi: Why did you invite me in here?

Later on (Paraphrased this time I didn't take notes)

Jackob and Corrin standing around tent
Takumi: You are both here, looks like we can all cuddle together
*Close up of face*
Takumi: Why did you invite me in here?

It's pretty great that, even after getting married, characters will say the exact same thing in the close-up portion as they do when you're (presumably) trying to bang them. Especially when they acknowledge that they were probably interrupting the sexy times, and then promptly get all flirty.

SMT4: Finished, normal ending.
Who was that girl at the end? Tokyo?

The demons in Lucifer's palace could be recruited, I got a few with Debilitate and that final fight wasn't too bad. I also got the skill mutation apps, and my pendragon got one of his skills changed to Luster Candy, so I overwrote the pendragon data, deleted it, re-downloaded it and made it level once to get him to teach Luster Candy on Flynn. Niiiice.

The finale was a bit weird, like the devs unexcitedly going "Let's just do the usual SMT thing now". Walter and Jonathan didn't really sound as convinced as before before fighting you. I see that Neutral is back to being the Good Ending, which is a very disappointing step back from Strange Journey.
I watched the chaos ending and I think the complaint about it is that Lucifer tells you you're going to rule the land and stuff, and chaos = anarchy = no leaders? This doesn't really make much sense to me; Lucifer has been leading his chaos buds since day 1 and pure anarchy with no leaders is of course impossible.

SMT4 has very high highs and very low lows.

Highs are when you're in a completely optional city park and it looks amazing and sounds amazing and you're fighting the strangest and best monsters in the videogame industry and the story keeps you on edge and you are constantly badgering demons for money in battle so you can buy the coolest hat.

Lows are when you are stuck on the worst world map ever with no idea where to go and you are bombarded with a million sidequests, battles are a joke, you don't remember whether that other guy said Shibuya or Shinjuku and you just saw Uriel's new design and are facepalming hard.

As a game SMT4 is probably my favourite game on the 3DS ATM just for the feeling of exploring really cool malls, but that's mostly because nothing has really impressed me on the 3DS so far. SMT4 remains way behind both SMT Nocturne and Strange Journey.

FE birthright : beat

Takumi and ryoma are some kind of overpowered.

So I corron, but mine was a glass canon. Died way too easily.

Started conquest up. I wanted to see what tye big deal about this Odin guy was.

I was thinking to myself. This guy. He can't be as cool as...

Oh. Makes sense. Odin is awesome. Haha. Carry on.

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright - Beaten.

Overall good, even though part of me wishes I'd played this version first because it can't help but be a bit disappointing after Conquest. Which isn't terribly fair because yeah it's still a good game! And I am happy to say the game does pick up some near the end, both in writing (Nohr royals good... although Garon is actually worse on this route, sigh) and in gameplay/map design. Probably ends up somewhat ahead of Path of Radiance or Awakening for me, the mechanics are just more solid. (Also better music.)

In a game that had too many hollow, pointless sacrifices (hi Lilith), Elise's death was pretty goddamn sad. Elise is easily the best little sister character the series has written, though that's not a terribly high bar.

Some unit notes, not bothering with people I benched quickly or kids:

Corrin (+Str, -Res, Swordmaster): This build was pretty cool, she had loads of offence, not too great at taking hits though. This is a bit of a theme for Birthright PCs as it will turn out, but uh yeah, she wasn't too far from one-rounding the last two bosses through Dragonskin. Kill leader.

Ryoma: Best overall unit? Yeah almost surely. The best Fates character at 1-2 range sweeping offence. Not super-durable and only has 6 move but those are his only flaws, his evade/damage/speed/range make for an outstanding package.

Hinoka: Good overall stats, flies, or can trade that for even better stats if you're one of those people who doesn't respect flight (weirdos). Guard Naginata is a pretty great option.

Scarlet: High Str/Def, adequate Speed, Res was the only real problem. Camilla if her level were truthful, she joined 4 maps later, and with way worse Res. Probably still the second best PC in Birthright, unless it's Corrin (which is possible).

Azura: Dances.

Reina: Fast level progression, lance and bow ranks, flight, good stats. Wish she had more supports so she could use her level lead to mess around with other classes and get skills like Bowfaire but so it goes.

Takumi: Well, he's certainly not overpowered, but he is pretty good at killing one thing (fliers especially) with high accuracy, and after promotion he gains the ability to fly. Speed was a touch problematic, as was his bad enemy phase.

Setsuna: Kinda like Takumi with better speed but much worse durability. Glass cannon, extremely good against fliers, though her start could be better. I dropped her midgame when other good recruits started coming in and you don't fight any fliers forever.

Hana: More glass cannons. Kills things. Duelist's Blow is a cool skill as it lets her with little worry of counters, so she actually feels kinda like an archer, except she can counter one melee enemy effectively. Any more than that is death unless she dodges.

Kaze: Fast ninja, lacks power, bad def but good res, blah blah blah same as Conquest. Ninjas are pretty useful though I got enough shuriken users late to drop him.

Kagero: Fast ninja, has power (though less Res than Kaze). Lasted longer than Kaze but still got dropped when I got a bunch of kids.

Kaden: Another character with good evade and Res, but not so good Def so he was usually 2HKOed despite HP. That said he was a reasonably effective cannon especially against mounted enemies, and being able to laugh off magic damage and switch his stats around was useful.

Jakob: Knifed things, used staves, eventually got outclassed by kids / other staff users.

Felicia: Went strategist so she had some decent magical offence and neato support skills like early Inspiration. Fragile though.

Azama: Healer who was hardly ever even 2HKOed. Hey, that's cool. Had the stats needed for some okay offence, though bronze was a bit limiting so it ended up kinda bad in practice.

Yukimura: Actually more impressive than I was expecting, I benched my ninjas for Midori who had better overall non-speed stats as a shuriken user... then Yukimura had clearly better stats than her, too. Both defences over 20? In Birthright? Not bad Mr. Citan cosplayer. Sting Shuriken's an extremely handy weapon late.

FE Conquest: Ended up making an extra save, then downgraded to Normal difficulty so I could actually watch animations while keeping the playtime sane on a first run. Going to turn animations off full time when I go back to Conquest Hard so the inevitable resets aren't too painful.

The normal run also wound up serving as a scouting+test run of sorts, as I messed around with different pair ups too much and ended up getting only two S rank pairings (CorrinF x Jakob and Xander x Charlotte) - I didn't really need more kids, but the extra paralogue exp would've come in handy. The likes of Selena and Keaton fell behind on this one, so I ended up with just Corrin, the royals, Effie, and Niles as good combat units, plus Kana and Shura as ok filler.

Hinoka is the lategame stage that terrifies me the most, based on my experience in Normal - protecting backline squishies from all those reinforcements was already rough in Normal. Probably going to attempt a beeline towards the boss.

Also started up a Birthright file, early on this is much closer to what I was expecting out of Hard difficulty.

FE Fates Conquest:
Just did some of the most whined-about & allegedly hardest missions in a row in C20 & Sophie.

C19, Kitsune swarm - From chat, Elf found this mission a bit easy, but it's actually the only mission where I've accepted a "death" in Casual.  Hey a bunch of 1-range guys, sounds harmless, right?  Except these dudes are all incredibly evasive, sport critical rates, hit weakness on horseys (sorry, Silas/Xander/Elise/Bow Knight Niles!  That's...  a lot of the team....), aggro as a huge group, and go untargetable if they can't figure out anything to do like 2HKOing your dudes w/ Life or Death.  I'm pretty sure that if I was playing on Classic, the only "safe" way to do the map would be the cheeze strat of sending Effie / Bennie in a pair-up forward and just letting your General solo them all, or at least most, but meh.  The boss & his bros are pretty nasty too, being even more evasive & deadly!  Sheesh.  The enemies just outstat you hard even if the player has a huge strategic edge.

C20, Wind dancing - Oh dear.  Tons of enemies with a critical chance, Kinshi Knights flying around with ridiculous range, enemy reinforcements...   ow ow ow.  About the only saving grace is that most of the "right" side of the map errs pretty heavily on the physical side, so Xander can run around causing chaos there without worrying TOO much about dying.  Anyway, there were many reloads here.  I didn't have to reload for it but it's pretty easy to screw up the final boss approach, which is full of Lunge bow-women who can hypothetically use mystic arrow shots to push you into the boss's range from a long distance off.  Another enemy sporting a decent crit rate, I might add!

At this point I *still* didn't have any kids other than Percy (whom I'd only gotten thanks to dragging Arthur out of retirement for some easy castle battle affection grinding), and I wasn't using Percy, so time to fix this.  I ran Ghostly Gold & another shot at Before Awakening.  Before Awakening actually kinda annoyingly legit when you just want to grind affection, I got Chrom & Lissa & Leo killed (well, "killed" for Leo.  i'm not counting this as a real death like the one in C19 when it's affection grinding.)

P5, Sophie's Paralogue (Silas x Beruka) - OH SWEET LORD.  The one saving grace this chapter has on C20 is that it's a lot shorter, but talk about a brutal first 4 turns.  You have to push really hard AND blockade the bridge if you don't want the villagers suiciding, and even if you do everything right, the Berserkers still easily sport 10% crit rates if you don't equip Bronze.  Ended up having the Xander/Elise/Silas/Sophie squad take out the top half of the map while Dragonstone+ Corrin in a pair-up with Camilla was on blockade duty.  But it's so, so easy to be slightly out of position and have Silver Axe dudes smash you in the face, with support, and murder you extremely dead.  After all the save/reloading for C20, I tried to do this one vaguely more legit, and still ate more resets than I'd like.  That said...  you have served me well, Silas, but the time has come for you to enter retirement.  Your daughter is better than you at, like, everything.  Except supports since I'm not running other kids yet.  Oh well.

Interlude: Flora.  Ugh, they couldn't figure out a plot reason for Flora to join up?  Disappointing.  She just joins the ranks of the Corrin sycophants, as she just couldn't keep Corrin out of her mind or something.  SIGH.  Anyway...  oh wow Flora is DIRE.  How many games have the naive, klutzy, incompetent, & trusting one of a pair be the badass in combat, and have the serious, competent, spy one just be terrible?  With that speed she can't be anywhere near the frontlines, but her magic is like 10 points worse than Felicia's, so she's not much good for the backlines as a healer either.  And it's not like she's a surprise maid tank.  (To be sure, having some subpar units so that Classic players aren't totally screwed by running out of staff-users is fine of course, but she isn't kidding about the subpar thing.  Renault is feelin' good.)

P22, Nina's Paralogue (Niles x Elise) - Nina.  Nina, Nina.  We need to have a chat.  You want to be Robin Hood, and I get it.  Except I don't, because news flash, you ARE The Man.  See that crown next to your name?  You're royalty!  Stop being a class traitor, and if you really think this specific noble sucks, you can probably just ask for him to be executed anyway.  Also your dudes already have like 5 Shining Bows, why do you need to rob 1 more?  This also probably counts as more like a "raid" then thievery anyway.  I left you for last assuming that I shouldn't kill you, but I guess I have to, so people don't die when they are killed.  Glad you pointed out the noble was corrupt though, since that means I get to keep your stolen stuff for me or something.  Anyway, that said, Nina will replace Shura quite nicely.  Thanks to being Elise's daughter, she's going to be terrifying with a Shining Bow +1 as an Adventurer.  Good times.  She's a LITTLE frailer in Def than Shura, but better everywhere else, so I'll take it.

Interlude, fun fact: Offspring Seals are NOT TRANSFERABLE.  I figured I could always just catch up Percy later if I wanted to by recruiting a kid I didn't care about, but nope.  Eh, whatever, I'll keep my grim assassin kid Beruka anyway & Camilla for the flyers department.

EDIT: Oh yes, I realize it'd probably have been a bother, but it'd be nice if Fred's Silver Lance in "Before Awakening" was a rigged one without the stat decline, like in Awakening.  Since I screwed up that mission on my 2nd go through, Fred did a l of the heavy lifting, and was at 5 Str & 0 Skl by the end, with his trusty lance mysteriously betraying him and sapping his strength by like -23.  what is happppppening to me why does silver lance work this way nooo.

yeah having once off weapons that you normally never get access to short of that one character is p much unheard of in this gaem.

FEwhatever - I am up to chapter 19.  This is still pretty good and I think I will even get Conquest to play on super scrub mode because crushing hard games with god mode is fun I guess?  I don't even know why I am enjoying it, but I am.  It is hopefully the same kind of enjoyment I got out of DQ8 or DDS.  Where playing something that is kind of a throwback to something bleh that I don't really enjoy speaks to something in me I don't understand.

Hopefully it doesn't have the same effect those games do so I can save us all massive posts about old FE games.  Because I dig older SMT and DQ games these days where I didn't used to and gods help me I don't think I will get anywhere with old FE.  Even replaying FE8 doesn't last long.  A huge binge here and hopefully releases every 2 years does the job from here on out (with Awakening when I want it).
NO MORE POKEMON - Meeplelard.
The king perfect of the DL is and always will be Excal. - Superaielman
Don't worry, just jam it in anyway. - SirAlex
Gravellers are like, G-Unit - Trancey.

Momodora: Jim was right, is sidescrolling Dark Souls with a very ignorable animu aesthetic. Beat hard mode, was hard. Playing through Insanity mode now. Dungeons are quite hard now because they're completely unforgiving, but bosses are frankly just as difficult if not easier than my first playthrough, partly because I've been using the attack boost items but mostly because I already recognize their patterns pretty well. Would recommend.

LFT - Replaying this, finished up to when Gafgarion betrays you. Less playing to try to use classes I never used in vanilla this time and more to actually win, game is much easier this way. Notably, the Algus fight walled me my first time but I scraped by on my first try this go around. Battle Skill archer is a lot of fun, so is Kidney Punchin' Ramza.
