I saw the picture and Yoshi egg and my first thought was somebody caught something special in Pokemon Go.  Talk about being far off the mark.  ;D

Yoshi's Island reference in the near future?

Going rafting was fun (even on a very sedate river). I may or may not have fallen out of the raft laughing at one point but that's no shocker. Was nice to get out of the city and get out to nature, it's been brutally hot here for the past week.

DJ: As Andrew pointed out, cutie marks must be discovered by the child. Our job as parents is just to give it a name that coincidentally fits its destiny.

Based on family tradition, Andrew not caring, and us living in the Bay Area, there's a high chance it's going to be a nature-based name (mine's Ashley, "ash tree grove," my mom's is Robin, like the bird, my grandfather's is Garth, "garden"). I am doing a space/night sky-themed party insofar as there will be any kind of theme because space is awesome. That's as far as we've gotten to assigning destiny.

DK0: Don't ask me why Nintendo decided to use a Yoshi egg in Pokemon, but that is actually just a modified screenshot from Pokemon Go so... yeah. Not so far off. ;)

super: You would choose to do exciting things I can be jealous about when I absolutely cannot go out and take them as inspiration because something something placental abruption.

That is a heinous lie. I'm pro-Sol Badguy. Paradigm is meh though.

Universal Will is still top of the charts, though.

Pretty sure that covers the "Nature-theme" part, too. I can work with this to make a "proto-cutie-mark".

This month has been literally one of the most stressful months in my entire life. I am pretty sure this whole moving home process has taken years off of my life and may well have dissuaded me from moving abroad again.

But its over now. I just slept for 16 hours. No ragrets

LD: I just try and do fun things on the weekend, though the next fun thing I will be doing is getting prepared to get the Jeep to pass inspection. (Prayers may be needed) E: I need to get the driver side seat belt replaced at the least, it hasn't worked right for a few years now.

Welcome back!

Almost a week in, Germany is cold and wet and fuck I didn't plan for early fall temperatures. I am trying to be vegan here.
Touring with remington and getting my german ig hashtags on.
Very annoyed at my lack of whiteness here, it's very annoying the male catcalling and the presumption that all black women are sex workers. Continuing to try to modulating an angry moderate non-German screaming voice, although fick dich is enough some times.
Glad I brought Remington's rain booties, coat and sweaters.

My grandfather died yesterday. Sucks, but we all knew it was coming (including him) and were ready for it; he had a stroke almost 7 years ago and it was a long, slow decline from there. Everybody (even my normally useless father) made it to his bedside to say goodbye in the month leading up to it, and now my grandmother finally gets to have a life outside of caregiving again. Sad, but freeing.

So sorry for your loss, Shale.

Watching someone go through a gradual decline is rough. I dealt with that with my mom's dad. In 1997, his wife died of breast cancer. Over the next year or two, we all quickly realized that he was not capable of living alone - she'd done everything for him. Then he had a stroke that he had a partial recovery from. He ended up moving in with my family in ~1999. Over the next few years, we watched his decline into Alzheimer's. Eventually we couldn't take care of him anymore and we brought him to a 24/7 nursing facility in 2007. When he died in 2008, it was the most mixed feelings any of us have ever had. On the one hand, profound sadness. On the other, relief - for him and for us, that the pain was over.

Long story short: condolences. Been there. Try not to feel guilty about feeling some relief alongside the sadness.

Flight to SFO from YVR.  Stand at end of line when Zone is called.  Line is kind of wonky.  Leave room for people to walk through.

Family of 5 roll of and stand right next to me as if there is not a line.  Complain about service the entire weekend they were here.

Apparently it was okay at the Quay.  Quay was pronounced Kway.

Internally screaming the whole time in line.

Kway.

Safe now with headphone and quiet seat mates.

Flight to Sydney largely uneventful.  Lost the bud to one of my headphones immediately, but inflight is fine on Qantas.

Landed at Sydney.  2/5 of the self check in machines near the gate were broken.  Cue people failing to understand how queues work.  Plane load of people plowing through queues.  I leave a gap so people can pass.  This of course gets interpreted as the end of the line by 6 people who jumped half the line.  jfc people.

After that Sydney domestic transfer flipped the shit side on the 50/50 if it is fucked or not.  Doesn't matter, got heaps of time but goddamn.

HR: Unfortunately, the new law passed in San Francisco that requires employers to cover the other 45% of disability pay for maternity leave won't apply to us until January 2018, so you won't be getting that.

Me [internally]: Oh, you mean that law that FORCES you to pay? Meaning that you could always also just choose to do so? And you're telling me that you're going to refuse to do so, and it's 'unfortunate' that the city isn't making you do it yet? And you're saying this like I'm supposed to be sympathetic?

Me [out loud]: Yes, I know.

---

This from the same company who confused the fuck out of me and my direct report by saying, "good news, [direct report], you and the other non-exempt employees now have flex time like the exempt employees!" Confusion: "flex time" just means that they don't give a shit whether you clock in at 9:00am or 9:54am or clock out at 5:58pm as long as you put in your 8 hours. This is exactly how I've been telling my employee to behave since the exempt employees got flex time because there are like 5 non-exempt employees in the whole company and why the fuck would it even matter anyway?

Oh right, Japanese employers.
