1. Levels- PCs are taken at L60. There’s a few PCs that this gave a extra high level charge that they might lose if taken a level of 2 lower (Alen loses an L4 at 59, Tir an L4 around 57-58, Flik an L4 at 58, Lotte an L4 around 57-58, Sheena an L4 around 57). Celes at Suikosource had a ready made table for L60 stats exactly. I did finish right at L60, but I could see how one would finish at 59.

2. Stats
Defense: Cuts 1 Point off Physical Damage; I didn’t test for random variance though.
Magic: On the PC side, every 2 points adds 1 to magic damage done. Cuts damage PCs take by 1 (it does not have this effect for enemies)

3. Crit Rate- I’m assuming that this is based on Luck and Skill weighed equally. While Suikodens after this used, Skl+Luck/2, Skl and Luck weighed equally fit the data better (about 10% deviation on average from the expected, while Skl+Luck/2 AND Skl/2+Luck were about 15% from average). (Skl+Luck)/10 fits decently.

4. Status Checks- There are none! I ran comprehensive tests and there is no stat that links to any kind of status resistance.

5. Hit Rate- Average of hit rate against enemies with 150 Skl, 100 Skl, and 80 Skl. This gives a decent range of enemies and averages to 110, the enemy average. I believe there is a minimum hit rate. For the stat topic, I’m guessing the minimum hit rate is 60% (It could be a little lower like 57.5%, outside chance of 55%, but no lower). I wouldn’t be surprised if the formula is Attacker Skill-Defender Skill-20 or something similar, as a hit rate seems to relatively linear but definitely seems like they are skewed off by about 20.

**Since some PCs had locked accessories, I thought it was fair to give everyone else one DEF based accessory to at least reflect in game comparisons. I didn’t go into other storeboughts because there is a super-unbalanced one right at endgame that gives +15 speed to girls that didn’t seem very reflective of most of the game.

7. Arguments to Boosted Damage Average- In Suikoden, Runes are a very potent way to do damage. 21 Characters Start with Runes (including relatively a useful removable rune on Eikei, a crappy one on Morgan, a DL crappy permanent rune on and Stallion and the just kind of bad permanents on Juppo, Kai and Pahn), which is a pretty small fraction of the 76 PCs. In my opinion, this is a really high boost that really tends to overrate the power the runes though.

As such, I’ve included an average for people with multiple L4s and no attack rune (I averaged the 4 attack runes and their basic physical to reflect Water Rune usage) and one with multiple L3s. Keep in mind that even those with 3 L2s can get a passable use of an Earth Rune  and that most PCs are given no bonus at all (And Killer Runes are storebought and extremely potent based on Suikosource’s description. Killer Runes are supposed to boost crit rate by 50%, which ranges between a 12-35% damage increase).

1 . Unites- I didn’t factor these into damage averages, but they are worth considering for some. For example, Kobold +1 Attack (Fu Su Lu, Kuromimi, Gon) is basically like a guaranteed crit that also ignores ITE. These aren’t a big deal, but if we count even loser PCs, these can be a saving grace for some of them.

Cool.

Can you list what PCs get what equipment somewhere? (And also note locked equipment like Luc's Guard Robe.) Even though S1 has relatively few useful equip changes to make this relevant, it would be nice to have this noted without having to go to another resource.

Stallion's rune should probably be listed in his entry, DL-useless though it is (since it blocks him changing it out for something else for anyone who allows that etc.).

Too bad Fog of Deception turned out DL-useless. Oh well. Clay Guardian too, although with Copper Flesh around that was never actually going to matter.

I didn’t go into other storeboughts because there is a super-unbalanced one right at endgame that gives +15 speed to girls that didn’t seem very reflective of most of the game.

If you're talking about the Wing Boots, this is pretty much directly false.  They're in Gregminster before you get banished, you just have to remember to talk to the armor salesman before you can't go back anymore.

And while the price is fairly prohibitive, they'll be in Chapman's store once you reach Antei to recruit her, which is...  What, about just before the midpoint of the game?

Ain Gide translates too well.  He's some kind of Low Middle rather than borderline Puny.  Depressing.  (How often does he use his MT flame magic that doesn't suck in-game, anyway?  Not that it matters too much in the DL.)

I waited around on both Ain Gide and Sonya for testing purposes, and I would say that while Sonya didn't like using the magic attack much, Ain Gide seemed perfectly happy to spam it.

Just to note that alternate equip effects are noted for every PC (I just didn't note the equip types). If you still want the typage NEB, I can add it.

Interesting fact about Wing Boots though. That makes them a little better certainly (although I still wouldn't factor them in, since it's pretty missable (counter-intuitive to a large degree), not cheap and not completely wrecks natural curves to some degree).

It also allows someone who takes a different view on legal equipment to make adjustments accordingly. It's the type of thing which should be in a stat topic IMO.

Well, if nothing else, they're only 1700 more than the Guard Rings that the last stat topic gave everyone, which even only 60%-80% into the game is a pretty negligible increase.  Got nothing to defend against the claims of it being missable if you just run past the shop and it being curve-wrecking, though.

PC Damage, nice: ~325? (assumes you had more party choice, good runes, ignores elemental resistance)
PC damage, realistic: ~225 (Hix is likely a scrub, Cleo's attack magic will be reduced by resistance, Viktor's damage is not amazing either)

Bat strike: 265 physical damage*, high (100%? ) chance of inflicting bat status = poison.  (Lose ~5% max HP every combat round.)
Blue wind: 180 MT Wind Magic
Blue lightning: 130 MT Lightning Magic

* Insert disclaimer that the physical must strike the front row, which is where your higher DEF members presumably are, so I amped the bat damage up a bit compared to what I actually saw in-game (e.g. 250 vs. Viktor or the like).

Well, original flavor Neclord has way worse offense compared to Neclord in Suikoden 2.  Only a single action, and it's slow.  That said, he's potentially more of a challenge in-game, somehow?!  Check out that HP and the more encompassing elemental resistances.  No Judgment for Tir yet as a reminder, and Holy element is insanely rare (1 underlevel PC, not tons of damage at base).  If you didn't bring a Water/Flowing Rune, those MT magic attacks can wear down your supply of Mega Medicines reasonably fast, actually, since you have to heal your front row a little early to stop them from getting bat'd.  Kneejerking an in-between damage average of 275 per PC or so, Neclord ends up around 1.8 PCHP scaled against 6 PCs, or 3.1 PCHP scaled against 3.5 PCs; adjust upward or downward by taste.

For the other bosses...

I've played S1 four times and I've seen that move plenty. Still not a good boss, but not even close to the worst boss the series has managed in-game!

Sonya spammed her MT water magic continually...  both times I fought her (whoops talked to Mathiu before talking with Sonya, haha no Gremio for me -> reload), making it a really intense fight!  I never saw Ain Gide's magic, and his lack of elemental resistances is really unwise in Suiko1, and Tir has another charge of Judgement by then (3 vs. 2).  Clearly some spiky/weird luck of the AI draw even given that Ain probably gets fewer turns to live.

I think you meant Wing Boots here, and boost by 20?  Don't see any accessory called Wing Earrings either in-game or at FAQs.  Not super important for Golden Hydra of course, matters more for boss Sonya or the like.

Yeah, I agree with Magic Fanatic.  They're missable and they're somewhat curve-breaking, but…  not THAT missable, and they aren't even that pricy by Neclord's Castle or so.  (Certainly less missable than, say, recruiting Crowley without a FAQ or the like.)  In fact, I was able to buy a set while still in the Gregminster area near the start of the game, and without save/load cheezing the cup game either.  Granted, this was thanks to saving and not spending money on anything else.  Anyway, as a result, I'd say that Wing Boot hype is probably reflective of the game, and the fact that you can still get them at endgame even if you missed the shop early helps the case for their legality, IMO.  (Earth Shields & Silver Hats are in the topic too, they also only come at Gregminster.)

Somewhat surprisingly, only 17/76 PCs are female and can equip Wing Boots (18/78 if including Odessa & Ted) (Stallion has 1 Wing Boots as a locked initial equip but I presume that's already baked into the existing average, and no, Milich can't equip them).  Additionally - and YMMV on this, the DL is not in-game - there's not any point in-game of boosting speed beyond 180, the speed of the fastest random according to Suikosource.  (Sonya, at 160, is the fastest boss if you're curious.)  Turn order seems very consistent with no random element, and speed buffs/debuffs don't seem to really exist (barring the Spark Rune?!), so once you outspeed every enemy in the game, further increasing speed doesn't actually help; might as well fall back to Guard Rings.  This applies to Kasumi & Sonya, and maybe Cleo.  So…  this only matters for ~15 or so PCs after all, and doesn't break the curve/averages as badly as you might expect.

If allowed to equip a single Wing Boots (Dhyer seems to imply he only allowed a single Guard Ring above):
** Females get +10 Spd and a totally irrelevant -1 Def (Wing Boots are 14 Def, Guard Ring is 15 Def).
** The cast average rises by +2 Spd (+2.2 Spd if counting the full 17) to 138.5 (138.7).

If allowed to equip double Wing Boots:
** Most females get +20 Spd and -2 Def.
** Sonya, Eileen, and Mina have a locked accessory equip and can only grab 1 Wing Boots (although Sonya is already soft-capped anyway).  Cleo only needs 1x Boots to soft cap, if you care.
** The cast average rises by +3.5 Spd (+4.1 Spd w/ 15.5) to 140.0 (140.6).

While this is arguably "cheating" in favor of the cast, I can also see holding the males against the unequipped average and females against the Wing Boots average.  Although it's really not that huge a difference anyway, per above.

Anyway, the winners if you do this:
* Eileen & Hellion get off their Copper Flesh cheeze faster.
* Valeria and Ronnie Bell squeak their way to "barely above average" speed if allowed 2x Boots, but not with 1x Boots.  They really like that.
* Cleo goes from extremely speedy to Sonya/Kasumi level (and only needs 1x Wing Boots to soft cap).  Sonya & Kasumi are already soft-capped without need for Boots hype.
* Tengaar & Lorelai like the speed but won't be using their Suiko1 forms unless forced due to no starting runes here.
* Nobody cares about Sylvina, Sarah, Mina, Millia, Meg, Lotte, Kimberly, or Camille.
