Fire Emblem Heroes

It's mobile Fire Emblem. Characters from this game (with rare exceptions) already exist in previous FE games, and generally speaking are more broadly rankable by their existing forms. But hey, there are a few original characters here, and people might like this as a reference besides. Enjoy.

Mechanics

Standard Fire Emblem mechanics are at work here; if you're attacked by someone from a range where you can attack them back, you will do so. If your speed is 5 or more above your opponent's, you will strike them twice (if you're attacking, they get their chance to counter first).

The biggest difference is that 1-2 range is gone; all attacks are now either melee (1 range) or ranged (2 range). Essentially, tomes and daggers behave the same way bows do in other games, countering only other ranged attacks. A few characters can still counter at either range (this is the property of either a special weapon or skill), but nobody can attack at either range.

The weapon triangle is back, and much more potent than normal. It's now organised primarily by colour, same as Fire Emblem Fates:

Red > Green > Blue > Red

Red includes all swords, blue includes all lances, and green includes all axes, so that part of the weapon triangle is familiar. Additionally, all tomes and dragon breath attacks count as a colour... though, which one is typically rather arbitrary. Generally, fire is red, lightning is blue, and wind is green, but this is not ironclad (Adult Tiki has Lightning Breath and is red), and light/dark appear in several places.

Bows, daggers, and staves are colourless and do not normally participate in the weapon triangle.

Notably, nobody (as of early March 2017) has access to multiple weapon classes in this game.

Characters can learn skills. They can switch weapons and skills (including unequipping skills) between fights, but not mid-battle.

Buffs and debuffs return! If multiple effects buff the same stat (or debuff the same stat), only the highest one has an effect. One debuff and one buff can be applied simultaneously to the same stat, and they stack additively as you'd expect. Generally speaking, most buff effects last for the phase on which they are applied and the following phase (but not the following turn, so notably dagger-users can't take advantage of their own defensive debuffs unless they counter).

Additionally, there are various stat changes which are active while certain conditions are met (any skill with Blow or Spur/Goad/Ward in the name, for instance). These are not considered buffs themselves and can stack with buffs.

Finally, there are "special" skills, which function like limits. All special skills have a charge counter (typically 2 to 5). Every time the character gives or receives a hit in battle (multitarget attacks don't count), this counter goes down by 1. Once it hits zero, the special skill will activate as soon as its conditions are met. After it does, it will reset to its original value, and will begin counting down again. Special skills typically either cause the character to deal or receive more damage than normal for one hit, though the effects vary.

Stats

HP - Lose these and you die.
ATK - Do more damage
SPD - If you have 5 more speed than your opponent, you can make a followup attack
DEF - Reduces physical damage
RES - Reduces magical damage
Move - How many squares you can move. For most units, this is 2. Cavalry can move 3, armored units can move 1. Fliers are 2.

Damage = ATK - DEF
Damage, tomes/dragonbreath* = ATK - RES
Damage, staves = (ATK - RES) / 2

*Yes, even dragons who did physical damage in their home games hit RES here.

Weapon triangle advantage raises ATK by 20%, and disadvantage lowers it by 20%, before defence. Since average ATK is around 43 and average damage per hit is around 16, this means that ±20% ATK works out to around 50% more damage dealt and 50% less damage received (or vice versa)... a big deal!

Hitting a type weakness raises ATK by 50%, before defence (stacks multiplicatively with the above). Again, this results in a damage increase of significantly more, in this case closer to 2.25x normal damage.

As always you may wish to lessen weapon triangle effects when a Fire Emblem character fights someone from a different system, or apply them only to offence or only to defence, etc. Use your judgement.

Assumptions

Everyone is taken at 5*, Level 40, neutral stats, all skills learned. Stats are taken from the FE Heroes Wiki, occasionally cross-referenced with Gamepress for a second opinion. Since these are wikis the stats are not perfect and may contain errors, though I tried to go through and find any such errors. (I found quite a few.) If you see any numbers here which you believe to be an error, let me know!

Skill inheritance is not considered as skills gained this way are not weaked to the inheritor.

Damage is taken against the average DEF/RES of the cast itself, rounded to the nearest integer, which is 27/25. Staff damage is listed as a decimal when appropriate, though note that it is rounded down in reality.

All staff users have Assault set by default, except Azama and Lucius who have Pain.

The Fury skill raises all of a character's stats by 3 but causes them to take 6 non-fatal damage after each battle (in the Fire Emblem sense of the word). This is a very doubled-edged sword and it's tough to say whether it should be the default. I have assumed that it is because this is more true to in-game, but you could easily go the other way. Note that if you remove Fury, the durability average changes such that all durabilities are around 1% higher. Speed and damage averages would also fall by about 0.1, although there is a case to apply Fury's effect on the averages to offence but not durability given how it works. Use your judgement, again.

Life and Death is also a double-edged skill which is assumed to be set, but in this case I think most would agree the skill is generally positive (it raises ATK/SPD and lowers DEF/RES). An exception is made for Zephiel; since he has Wary Fighter (and incredibly low speed when it isn't active), he can't benefit from Life and Death's speed boost, and the higher Def/Res feels more beneficial for him overall.

Fortress Def raises DEF by 5 and lowers ATK by 3, again double-edged. I have assumed it.

The cast

(updated as of April 22, 2017)

FEH currently has 109 characters and this number is growing. In order to save space, the characters are presented in a table. Pay close attention to the notes at the end of each row, as they include the numeric effect of certain skills on each character. Some weapons and skills have special effects, so check the next post for details! Generally speaking any weapon that isn't silver (or a standard FE tome name such as Bolganone or Fenrir) has some sort of special effect.

As usual, PDUR and MDUR indicate overall effective survivability, 1 being average and higher being better. DMG refers to damage to average defence; this is the damage in the player phase (characters with Brave/Dire weapons and/or Death Blow do less on counters). The DEF/RES listed here are the effective stats on the enemy phase; for Julia and Roy the numbers here are 2 points higher than they appear on the status screen due to an effect of their weapons.

The following is a list of skills. It is not complete, as it includes only skills which are relevant in a duel. The full list can be found here.


Weapons (physical)

All bows: Atk x 1.5 (damage x 2.25) against fliers.

Armads: When countering after being attacked at HP ≥ 80%, unit can make a followup attack regardless of speed.
Armorslayer: Atk x 1.5 (damage x 2.25) against armored foes.
Assassin's Bow: If opponent has a dagger, this unit makes a followup attack and the opponent can not.
Binding Blade: +2 def/res when being attacked (factored in).
Brave [weapon]: Strikes twice when attacking, but not when countering. This is already factored into DMG. Notably, striking twice causes special skill counters to decrease faster. Equipping this lowers speed by 5 (factored in).
Carrot [weapon]: After a combat which this unit initiates, they regain 4 HP.
Deathly Dagger: Debuffs target -7 def/res after a combat in which they are hit. If the user initiated the combat, the target additionally takes 7 non-fatal damage.

Eckesachs: Debuff Def-4 to any enemy within 2 squares at the start of this unit's turn.
Emerald Axe: Same effect as Ruby Sword.
Falchion: Atk x 1.5 (damage x 2.25) against dragons (not wyvern riders). At the start of the first turn, and every 3 turns thereafter, regain 10 HP.
Fensalir: Debuff Atk-4 to any enemy within 2 squares at the start of this unit's turn.
Firesweep Bow: User can not counterattack nor be counterattacked.
Fólkvangr: Atk+5 buff if unit starts a turn at HP ≤ 50%.
Hauteclaire: Same effect as Killer.
Heavy Spear: Atk x 1.5 (damage x 2.25) against armored foes.
Killer [weapon]: Any equipped special skill has its charge time reduced by 1, both at the start of the fight and after it is used.
Mystletainn: Same effect as Killer.

Poison Dagger: Atk x 1.5 (damage x 2.25) against infantry. Also, debuffs target -6 def/res after a combat in which they are hit, if they are infantry.
Rogue Dagger: Debuffs target -5 def/res after a combat in which they are hit. Buffs user +5 def/res at the same time.
Ruby Sword: Doubles the effects of the weapon triangle, both on offence and defence; this causes WTA to be roughly +100% damage dealt and -100% damage received.
Sapphire Lance: Same effect as Ruby Sword.
Silver Dagger: Debuffs target -7 def/res after a combat in which they are hit.
Sol Katti: If unit attacks while at HP ≤ 50% and can make a followup attack, the followup attack will occur before the enemy counter, if any.

Weapons (magical)

Blárraven, Gronnraven, Rauðrraven: Grants weapon triangle advantage (+50% damage dealt and -50% damage recieved) against colourless foes.
Blárwolf, Rauðrwolf: Atk x 1.5 (damage x 2.25) against cavalry (not fliers).
Blue Egg, Green Egg: After a combat which this unit initiates, they regain 4 HP.
Dire Thunder: Strikes twice when attacking, but not when countering. This is already factored into DMG. Notably, striking twice causes special skill counters to decrease faster. Equipping this lowers speed by 5 (factored in).
Excalibur: Atk x 1.5 (damage x 2.25) against fliers.
Lightning Breath: Can counter ST attacks made at any range.
Naga: Atk x 1.5 (damage x 2.25) against dragons (not wyvern riders).

Staves

Absorb: Unit heals HP equal to half damage dealt, rounded down.
Fear: Debuffs target -6 atk after a combat in which they are hit.
Pain: After combat in which the target is hit, they take 10 non-fatal damage.
Panic: After combat in which the target is hit, any buffs on the target are reversed for one turn.
Slow: Debuffs target -6 spd after a combat in which they are hit.

Charge times are shown in brackets. Remember, eqiupping a Killer weapon (or equivalent) will lower the listed charge times by 1.

Aegis (3): Reduces one ranged hit's damage by 50%.
Aether (5): One hit does damage as if target had def/res -50% (around ~13 more damage) and also heals user for 50% of damage dealt.
Astra (5): One hit does +150% damage.
Bonfire (3): One hit's damage is boosted by 50% of user's Def.
Dragon Fang (4): One hit is calculated at +50% atk (around +125% damage).
Draconic Aura (3): One hit is calculated at +30% atk (around +75% damage).
Escutcheon (2): Reduces one melee hit's damage by 30%.
Galeforce: At the end of a battle initiated by the user, the user gets an extra turn.
Glacies (4): One hit's damage is boosted by 80% of user's Res.
Glimmer (3): One hit does +50% damage.
Iceberg (3): One hit's damage is boosted by 50% of user's Res.
Ignis (4): One hit's damage is boosted by 80% of user's Def.
Luna (3): One hit does damage as if target had def/res -50% (around ~13 more damage).
Miracle (5): If HP > 1, survive a fatal attack with 1 HP.
Moonbow (2): One hit does damage as if target had def/res -30% (around ~8 more damage).
Noontime (3): One hit heals user for 30% of damage dealt.
Pavise (3): Reduces one melee hit's damage by 50%.
Reprisal (2): One hit's damage is boosted by 30% of user's lost HP.
Sacred Cowl (2): Reduces one ranged hit's damage by 30%.
Sol (4): One hit heals user for 50% of damage dealt.
Vengeance (3): One hit's damage is boosted by 50% of user's lost HP.

Blazing [element] (5): When the unit initiates an attack, the target and all foes in a nearby AoE take damage equal to (Atk - Def/Res) * 1.5. This AoE damage is not considered a "battle".
Growing [element] (5): When the unit initiates an attack, the target and all foes in a nearby large AoE take damage equal to (Atk - Def/Res). This AoE damage is not considered a "battle".

Passives

Stat boosting skills (HP+5, etc.) are already factored into the stats in the above table, and are not listed here.

Most passive skills have three levels. Only the strongest version is listed here, as all characters get the strongest version of each of their skills at 5*. There is an exception to this: some characters with Hone/Spur/Fortify skills only know those up to Level 2, and instead get a class-specific buff in their place; however none of these are DL relevant and will not be listed here.

Some effects which have specific numeric effects for each character (e.g. Defiant, Seal, Threaten skills) have those effects listed in their entries.

[Weapon]-breaker: If opponent has a weapon corresponding with the name of this breaker skill, this unit makes a followup attack and the opponent can not. Note that there are versions for "blue tome", "green tome", and "red tome"; have fun figuring out what those correspond to in the DL.

Armored Blow: +6 def when attacking.
Brash Assault: When attacking at HP ≤ 50% AND triggering a counter, a followup attack can be made regardless of speed.
Close Counter: Can counter ST attacks made at any range.
Darting Blow: +6 spd when attacking.
Death Blow: +6 atk when attacking. Factored into DMG.
Defiant [stat]: [stat]+7 buff if unit starts a turn at HP ≤ 50%.
Desperation: If unit attacks while at HP ≤ 75% and can make a followup attack, the followup attack will occur before the enemy counter, if any.
Distant Counter: Can counter ST attacks made at any range.
Fortress Def: Def is raised by 5, Atk is lowered by 3.
Fury: All stats are raised by 3. However, each time the unit participates in a battle, he or she takes 6 non-fatal damage after it concludes.
Life and Death: Atk/Spd are raised by 5, Def/Res are lowered by 5.
Poison Strike: After a combat which this unit initiates, the opponent takes 10 non-fatal damage.
Quick Riposte: When countering after being attacked at HP ≥ 70%, unit can make a followup attack regardless of speed.
Renewal: At the start of the first turn, and every 2 turns thereafter, regain 10 HP.
Seal [stat]: Debuff [stat]-7 to the opponent after any battle.
Svalinn Shield: Nullifies weakness to armour-slaying weapons.
Threaten [stat]: Debuff [stat]-5 to any enemy within 2 squares at the start of this unit's turn.
Triangle Adept: Doubles the effects of the weapon triangle, both on offence and defence; this causes WTA to be roughly +100% damage dealt and -100% damage received.
Vantage: If attacked at HP ≤ 75%, the non-followup portion of the unit's counterattack pre-empts the attack which triggers it.
Warding Blow: +6 res when attacking.
Wary Fighter: If combat is initiated when this unit has HP ≥ 70%, neither participant can make a followup attack.
Windsweep: When attacking, the user can not make followup attacks. If the unit's speed is greater than the target's speed and the target is using a physical weapon, the target can not counter.
