Darius Force- Super Nova ~Lame~ vs Ar tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel- Exec_Flip_Arphage - Honestly Arphage's sheer complexity is doing it for me right now.  There's some issues I'm having (mostly, the hymmnos in At3 doesn't flow as well as the older stuff to me, although the chorus DOES seem to be in the kind from the previous games) but the good bits are PRETTY good.
Crash Bandicoot 2: Rock It vs Chrono Trigger- Singing Mountain - I've always felt the two dummied songs were the weakest on CT's soundtrack.  The Crash theme is pretty neat for an endgame track, clearly includes a lot of elements from earlier in the game while still being all spacey.
Deemo- The Witch’s Invitation vs Demon’s Souls- Tower Knight
Raiden V- Crystal of Abyss vs Front Mission 4- Hostiles - Hostiles is rather perfectly evocative of "Enemy Turn", which I... think FM4 works in a way that's exactly what it is.  Crystal of Abyss from a quick glance at the comments is a stage timed to the song, so I can only imagine what it's like if you've actually played the game.  Pompous latinesque chants are kinda my jam most of the time so I lean that way, but one of the weirder matches we've had I feel.

Koudelka- Waterfall vs Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation- Liberation of Gracemaria - ooooooh, Waterfall is the basic battle theme.  I thought it was weird there was a Koudelka nom, it barely has music from what I could remember.  Uh anyways, it's actually kinda neat in isolation, which is surprising because it's like the only song in the game and completely mismatches Koudelka's weird, clunky combat and uh anyways.  Liberation of Gracemaria takes forever to get rolling, and the payoff kinda reminds me strongly of Flight from Xenogears.  Which is a great thing to remind me of, as a rule.  Hrm.  I almost hate to vote against Waterfall just because it's so weird but the other song is just kinda playing my biases well.
Super Smash Bros.- Pop Land Stage vs Shovel Knight- Strike the Earth! Plans of Passage - Okay I would bet money that one of the main inspirations for this particular SK track is in fact this Kirby song.  I'm probably thinking of a remix of this song in a later smash game because it does a few things I don't expect, but still?  Yeah, hard to top the Smash incarnations of classic tracks.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn- Penitus vs Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War- The Unsung War - Huh.  Just kinda a stately roman thing going on here, compared to more bombastic Ace Combat stuff.  Sure why not.
Dies irae ~Interview of Kaziklu Bey~- Methuselah vs Bayonetta- Red & Black  - Gosh I hope that's the right Dies irae song.  Bayo is jazzy, and she does, but yeah, I'm feeling pompous and overblown today.

Crash Bandicoot 2: Rock It vs Chrono Trigger- Singing Mountain - Another tough matchup. Sorry, Rock It, just a bad break.
Deemo- The Witch’s Invitation vs Demon’s Souls- Tower Knight - Did not like either at all, so it's a question of which I dislike the least. Tower Knight it is, I guess.
Raiden V- Crystal of Abyss vs Front Mission 4- Hostiles - Surprising, Crystal of Abyss really grew on me as I listened.

Koudelka- Waterfall vs Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation- Liberation of Gracemaria - Good epic music, how uncommon. That easily takes this.
Super Smash Bros.- Pop Land Stage vs Shovel Knight- Strike the Earth! Plans of Passage - Meh.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn- Penitus vs Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War- The Unsung War - Don't like either much. Been one of those rounds.
Dies irae ~Interview of Kaziklu Bey~- Methuselah vs Bayonetta- Red & Black - Meh, but Red and Black isn't bad. Just not my thing.

Koudelka- Waterfall vs Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation- Liberation of Gracemaria: Kiss Twice might've taken it, though.
Super Smash Bros.- Pop Land Stage vs Shovel Knight- Strike the Earth! Plans of Passage: I was ultimately underwhelmed by Shovel Knight, but it does excel at making a good first impression.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn- Penitus vs Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War- The Unsung War: It's easy to forget how good a final dungeon theme the first track is after grinding Praetorium for XP too much. Unsung War has really grown on me after repeated listens, though (ditto for Gracemaria). This still shouldn't be a first round match.
Dies irae ~Interview of Kaziklu Bey~- Methuselah vs Bayonetta- Red & Black: Own nom, easy call. (Edit note: vote stands in light of corrected link--though I do like this one better.)

Darius Force- Super Nova ~Lame~ vs Ar tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel- Exec_Flip_Arphage/. - My favorite Ar Tonelico track versus something else. Exec_Flip_Arphage/. worked perfectly as a character narration that hymmnos meant to be. How the song heats up along with Saki's transformation of character is a very nice touch.

Crash Bandicoot 2: Rock It vs Chrono Trigger- Singing Mountain  Singing Mountain is familiar to me thanks to the Flames or Eternity romhack.  Rock It sounds really good though.  Chosen by coinflip
Deemo- The Witch’s Invitation vs Demon’s Souls- Tower Knight  Both new to me.  I consciously dislike Tower Knight.  Other track was "eh, whatever" which is still superior to active dislike.
Raiden V- Crystal of Abyss vs Front Mission 4- Hostiles  I recognized the FM4 track within 30 seconds.  It brought back horrible flashbacks of being carpet bombed by rockets in the Escape from Caracas mission so familiarity is a negative factor here.  Didn't know Raiden 5 existed but this track is something else, even if I have yet to listen to the whole loop.

Koudelka- Waterfall vs Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation- Liberation of Gracemaria  Liberation took over 3 minutes to get to something I enjoyed.  I do like the parts that come later.   The long buildup probably makes more sense in context but I view in unfavorably in isolation.  Waterfall reminded me of a Touhou track I couldn't quite place right away.  Since Koudelka existed earlier, I wonder if said Touhou track drew inspiration from this.  Both have their positive qualities, giving vote to the one that plays to my biases more.
Super Smash Bros.- Pop Land Stage vs Shovel Knight- Strike the Earth! Plans of Passage  Just happen to like this better.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn- Penitus vs Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War- The Unsung War  Blind again.  Decent for me on both sides.  Felt like voting for the Ace Combat more.
Dies irae ~Interview of Kaziklu Bey~- Methuselah vs Bayonetta- Red & Black   Found both likeable; it is close.  Tiebreak by giving it to the game I've never heard of.

First things first, based on Niu's video: holy crap is that too "crowded" a screen for a shooter, IMO.  Tons of green pick-ups that float around on screen that aren't harmful distracting you from the reasonably faster enemy shots, and your own shots (especially when the guy gets the spread shot halfway through) are also very noisy and distracting.  Anyway, based on the first ~3 minutes or so, I'd go Hostiles, Crystal is too one-note.  Luckily it gets good with the stuff from the 5 minute mark on and makes it work, just takes awhile to get there.

Well I've certainly heard the Kirby stage music a lot, and it's very memorable!  A bit short loop, and Strike the Earth! is just plain fun.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn- Penitus vs Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War- The Unsung War
Dang.  This is the best of the Ace Combat tracks seen so far (it's epic but not over-the-top epic like Megalith was), but Penitus is pretty amazing too.  Agree with Random this isn't a round 1 fight, these two are better than the entire first 8 of this pod.  Maybe I'll decide later.

Darius Force- Super Nova ~Lame~ vs Ar tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel- Exec_Flip_Arphage - Both are pretty solid, but I loved the echo effect on the Ar tonelico Qoga song.
Crash Bandicoot 2: Rock It vs Chrono Trigger- Singing Mountain - I never really got the hype for Singing Mountain, even if you remove the opening wind efffect. I can clearly see why they removed that song from the final game. Rock It easily wins this for me. The song is a strong contender for the best the series has to offer in terms of soundtrack in my eyes.
Deemo- The Witch’s Invitation vs Demon’s Souls- Tower Knight - Neither sounded any good, but Tower Knight sounded less cluttered so I guess that's the winner of the two.
Raiden V- Crystal of Abyss vs Front Mission 4- Hostiles - Both have rather long build ups, though Crystal of Abyss is more effective once the main melody kicks in.

Koudelka- Waterfall vs Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation- Liberation of Gracemaria - Both sounded generic, but I liked the relaxed tone the composer was going for with Waterfall.
Super Smash Bros.- Pop Land Stage vs Shovel Knight- Strike the Earth! Plans of Passage - Really enjoyed both songs. Strike the Earth felt like more of a toe tapper to me though.

Crash Bandicoot 2: Rock It vs Chrono Trigger- Singing Mountain: Hey, a Chrono Trigger song which is mainly popular because of a "forbidden fruit" effect vs the best song in the Crash series. Easy winner.
Deemo- The Witch’s Invitation vs Demon’s Souls- Tower Knight: Of course a song with the name "Witch's Invitation" was going to have a fun melody. The instrumentation of Tower Knight isn't enough to back the chanting for me.
Raiden V- Crystal of Abyss vs Front Mission 4- Hostiles: Hostiles sounds rather generic in my opinion. Crystal of Abyss' choir and instrumentation go hand in hand in order to create a strong piece.

Koudelka- Waterfall vs Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation- Liberation of Gracemaria: Waterfall sounds elegant, Liberation of Gracemaria doesn't sound like it has much going for it. I'm guessing it works better in-game.
Super Smash Bros.- Pop Land Stage vs Shovel Knight- Strike the Earth! Plans of Passage: Memes aside, Pop Land isn't a bad song. It's just that Plans of Passage just sounds that good. I've never played the game but hearing this gives me high hopes for the rest of the OST.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn- Penitus vs Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War- The Unsung War: In terms of Ace Combat songs, this sounds more like it. Penitus is fine on its own merits though.

 Crash Bandicoot 2: Rock It  vs  Chrono Trigger- Singing Mountain - Coinflip. Eh on both.
 Deemo- The Witch’s Invitation  vs  Demon’s Souls- Tower Knight - The Deemo track manages to be fun and creepy.
 Raiden V- Crystal of Abyss  vs  Front Mission 4- Hostiles

 Koudelka- Waterfall  vs  Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation- Liberation of Gracemaria - Dunno why I like Waterfall so much, but I would often leave myself in Koudelka battles to listen to it. Maybe the Less is More philosophy it has to its sound? AC6 track is really good, but 3 minutes of buildup ain't cutting it (although I wouldn't have imagined Waterfall to be 8 bloody minutes).
