FM4- Just got Minotaur arms. Gooooooodbye game. Saved right before battle 15, so I'm midway through. It's still a respectable fight with two Minotaur arm setups. Man did they make that one harder than it had to be- stupid rocket/Grenade using enemies.

Bioshock: Started this up yesterday, up to Fort Frolic. Everything gets a wrench to the face except the Big Daddies, which fall to a machine gun round now that it's fully upgraded. Choosing to heal rather than harvest, and the animation for that practically screams "Bad Touch".

Fort Frolic is one of my favorite parts. There's something magical about that part where the splicers come at you.

FM4: Finished.  I think Darril's path was consistently harder despite the presence of two Minotaur Arms, which says a fair amount.  A fair amount, that is, about the Elsa/Latona offense blitz and just how badly it rapes the game.  I know that the final battle on Darril's path involved a lot more injury and required more caution than Elsa's last fight, which was less of a fight and more of a hilarious joke.  Probably gonna start a NG+ for funs.

Which is not true.
As alien system exists, you don't need another DS at all.
And except 2, all badges that needs mingle PP are drops later chapters or given to you in Another Day.
Plus, you can get most good stuff with Shut Down PP abuse.

Oh, I have another DS, so mingling isn't a problem.  The problem is having to check a FAQ constantly so you don't waste time leveling an expensive/rare pin the wrong way.

If it helps, any pin evolution can be gotten through other enemies or shops later on, and a lot of the lategame awesome evolutions are just done through battles. Though I really wish they documented that and it's part of why TWEWY isn't a 10/10 game for me.

Wild ARMs XF

This is an odd game, reminding me at the same time of FFT, and Grandia.  Gameplaywise, it's comparing favourably to FFT, with a somewhat more balanced job system, and a growth system that encourages you to choose between specialising and versatility.  What's especially nice is that the carrying classes look like they have worse masteries than the classes with worse stats, so you can choose between stats and skills.  As well, even though the combos you can build are rediculous, the game not only encourages this, but it builds its fights so as to reward it, and makes it easy to change around your party when you need to, as well as making it quick and easy to give up on a losing fight and return to the set up screen.  My two main complaint is the fact that you need to invest a lot of time in order to get the higher tier skills from a class, and the final classes still haven't been unlocked yet, which will limit their usefulness without a lot of griding.  And the synthesis system, which requires getting some luck in the Search menu in order to get the ingredients required to make certain weapons (Curse you, Lvl 3 Mineral!  Why do you never come in more than 3 pieces a shot!)

Of course, on the flip side is the story, which compares favourably to Grandia 1, barely.  Mostly, a group of idealistic heros, looking to wreck the economy of a great and mighty empire so that it's enemies can finally enjoy a peaceful and prosperous existance.  Unless they were taken over before this happened, in which case they were too late to join in on the new status quo that will be preserved FOREVER.  Of course, they're claiming that dismantling this place is in its own best interests.  Their heroic creed is that fighting is evil, and that no man should be forced to surrender his life and well being and individuality to some faceless cause/nation, and they'll beat up anyone who disagrees with them with their army of nameless generics.

On the other side, you have the guy who thinks the heros are insane for wanting to leave behind the strategy which has won their nation prosperity, fame, a standard of living that is several orders of magnitude higher than anything else in the world (everyone comments on how insanely good Elesius is if they've ever been somewhere else).  Really, his only flaw is that he seems determined to rule everything himself, when if it weren't for that, he'd actually be the stalwart defender of the nation.  He's even shown as being moderatly effective, which is more than most villains ever get.  Which brings me to Grandia, the other game where I was rooting for the 'villain' as being superior to the heros intellectually and morally, and yet still getting screwed over because of plot, and because he dared to think that Rousseau and the Divine Foundation of Nations are wrong.

So yeah, it's enjoyable, just...  I needed to rant a bit about it.

Mario Kart Wii

Got this, and it's pretty fun.  Currently unlocking things and playing online.  The Downside first, as it's basically just the lack of the double dash mode.  That was fun and enjoyable, and it's a shame to see it go.

Now, upsides.  The classic tracks look great, and the care taken to make the track, walls, background, and even zips look like they did in the original is superb.  There's also the nice bit about the small changes made so that the new track will fit in with the new mechanics that didn't exist in the original game.

The bikes work great alongside the karts.  The karts having the two levels of mini-boost to give them extra oomph on the turns, but the bikes having the wheelies to give them extra speed on the straightways.  As well, the trade off of weight v. acceleration is also interesting to choose between.

The long awaited addition of the 4P GP.  And the fact that it's a make your own GP too.  Granted, it's no all cup, but there's nothing saying you can't keep track and do the standings for that yourself (though I suspect in a month it'll be a while before there's any point in that around here, given we'll have to catch back up to the Elven driving standard.)

Finally, online play is much improved over Brawl, with there being no noticable lag, regardless of distance.   Granted, I don't know if I got anyone from Europe yet, but playing with folks from the east coast and Japan simultaneously introduced no major issues.  On that side note, a few random games of Brawl suggested lag isn't as bad there anymore either, so this is all to the good.

Moemon Gold/Silver Edition: Alright, Elite 4 and Rival defeated, credits rolled, canon gameplay done. First thing's first, the ridiculous amount of Pokemon grindery that is needed to finish the game is kinda mind-boggling considering the original games were so damn easy, it'll either annoy you, make your head asplode or you'll succeed in pulling it off. I also had minimal healing items since I had a cash flow problem due to lack of trainers to own. See, there's not a whole lot to say with regards to the game itself except lots of cuties, lots of creepy people, and lots of crack-induced sprites happening. So I got the All-Pass and I'm exploring the Sevii Islands. Found a house, challenged Sabrina again and got owned.

Ha? I would argue that. He has that philosophy of everyone should bleed for my sake as long as I am happy. He is a total egoist in this regard, no short than the protagonists. Especially when he plot to use the Necro Arms and the Darkness Tear later on. I hardly see him to be morally superior. And thanks to the fact that these dick heads are the ones who ruled Elesius for past centuries, Weissheart also got his ways.

And intellectually.... leaving Eclairag alive doomed all argument on his intelligence. And god, she even fooled him once and shattered his plan, which let Labrynthia got the best of him.

DQ8: Total lack of actual plot movement today. Go me. Decided to stop by Baccarat to see if the casino would be open in the wake of Dhouly's death, wound up going on a sidequest to the Dragon Graveyard to ensure that this actually happened. Found a King Metal Slime there, but it ran away before I could kill it. Sadness. How much HP do those guys have? Anyway, expected Cash and Carrie to be cheapskates and give me casino tokens as a reward, which they did. Turned the initial 600 into 4000 with a string of lucky rounds at the slot machine, kept going until a losing streak wore that down to 2500, decided to leave after that...then said "What the hell" and stopped at the bingo machine on my way out. Betting 300 a game, had a total lack of success until I was just about to run out of tokens--and then won 7500. Nice. Of course, any of the rewards that I'd actually want cost a helluva lot more than that (Gringham Whip! Twin Dragon Lash must be made even scarier!) cost so much as to make even that amount look like a trifling sum.

Also did some exploring of the world map (I started this when I first got the boat, but got distracted by the plot when I just happened to go to the right place by accident pretty quickly). Visited Savella, met Marcello again. NEWSFLASH: Marcello is still a dick. Yeah. Will probably head north as instructed and continue the plot again tomorrow, assuming the possibility of shiny casino prizes doesn't distract me.

Casino abuse is generally speaking worth it, I didn't level the chink whatserface with whips at all and that whip was still worth the points.  Armour and stuff is also pretty good IIRC and you can abuse some other shit for cash.

Mana Khemia: Finally finished despite having the game for quite a while.  I'm pretty sure the 58 hours on the game clock is lying.  Felt like forever. I guess I now feel like Sage when playing games. >_>  Nothing really to add that Tal or Tide address because I feel the same way about the game.  Non-offensive fluff plot with a very anime derivative cast and awesome but too easy gameplay.  It's a change of pace that a game about going to school STAYS that way for some 90% before the shit hits the fan (usually that's 40% into the game before you figure out the main villian/world disaster event)

Mario Kart Wii: Argh, hate unlocking carts/characters.  Too much bullshit happens when I'm so close to winning, then bam bblueshellblueshellblueshellblueshellblueshelllueshell.  I failed to win a 50cc because of it. What the hell man?

If you've put any points in spears for Guv, he has an ability that gives you critical hits 50% of the time.  It's the best way to kill metal monsters (fail, Metal Slash).

Guv has precisely zero points in spears. I've had him focus almost entirely on boomerangs for easier random smashing (and damn, is he good at by now); most boss fights see him being a backup healer anyway, so him lacking awesome ST damage hasn't been an issue (though his role might change now that I finally have MT healing).

And yeah, Metal Slash sucks. It did two damage on the King Metal Slime! And so did Twin Dragon Lash on account of hitting twice, and that attack is actually good for other things as well. Eh, at least Angelo finally got some good damage in the form of Falcon Slash. Skill setups, just for the hell of it:

Mercutio (Guv): Boomerangs (level nine, soon to be finished) and Courage, mostly. I have a couple levels in swords but haven't bothered using them since the earlygame.

Yangus: Axes and Humanity. He has a couple levels in everything else but never uses them. I'll experiment more when Axes are maxed out.

Jessica: Whips and Sex Appeal. The former because I'll never turn down extra MT damage and because Twin Dragon Lash is totally badass against bosses. Sex Appeal is mostly for laughs; I don't use it much.

Angelo: Swords and Charm, though neither matter a ton since he's on buffing/healing duty for boss fights. I don't use the Charm skills much, but I like dumping points into DQ8's quirky abilities just because they tend to be amusing and random.

If you want to abuse the Casino go with Roulette, if you have enough money you can pretty much always win. There's a FAQ on good setups for this at GF's.
Don't think of it as a novel. Think of it as a chance to retroactively win every argument you have ever walked away from.

If memory serves, Metal Slash is usable if you're equipped with... Falcon swords, I think?  Whatever the double-hit ones were.  Also helps if you have Jess spamming the Timbrel of Tension, but that's quite a bit later on.

Metal Slash actually works well.  The thing it has going for it is that it NEVER MISSES SLIMES barring normal evasion, which isn't frequent from them.

No, Metals don't have high evasion; what they do have is sick defense, which often reduces damage to 0.  In Dragon Quest games, if you do 0 damage, it seems to randomly decide to make the enemy evade instead of a simple Fire Emblem tink, so what seems like evading actually isn't (this is similar to FF6 Interceptor where Shadow will block moves with his Shield or Weapon, when actually, Interceptor was the cause, not normal evasion.)

Near as I can tell, Metal Slash seems to just add 1 point of damage AT THE END when hitting a slime.  The result is that you do 0 damage, then +1 kicks in, so you are insured 1 damage.  Sometimes you do 2 when you get the variance in your favor, naturally (that'd be the times you actually hit slimes with a normal physical.)

Granted, moves like Executioner are also good, since they insure a OHKO on a successful hit, but of course, that's just a coin toss.  Granted, what else is Yangus going to do to them (well, assuming he raised in Axes anyway.)

In any event, regarding the Casino, I believe the good things to get is mainly the Gringham Whip, and stocking up on Prayer Rings.  Gringham Whip is the strongest whip in the game, a pretty standard Ultimate Weapon in terms of power (doesn't stand out as being overly strong or weak compared to others, IOWs), and gotten early...yeah.  To add insult to injury, its MT, unlike the other whips which are GT, so...yeah, its pretty insane.
Prayer Rings are just MP Healing.

There are some other nifty items, but they're largely unimportant and felt a bit overpriced (Gringham Whip has every reason to cost that much though.)

Metal Slash holds up okay against the basic Metal Slimes (as you said, it's 1.5 damage on average, which is... uh... 50% better than TDL's 1! And 3x as good as most physicals). However even 1.5 damage is pretty incompetent against, say, the Metal Kings, and the auto-crit moves become far superior.

TotA: Beat Mohs! Surprisingly nonfail fight, even with the Jewel of Lorelai in play. Good array of statuses, good damage, and went after the spellcasters a good deal instead of being distracted the whole time by the swordsman running around the other side of the battlefield (Hi, Largo!). I spent the rest of the night around getting optional stuff; I'll probably start the final dungeon once I get Jade's last optional Arte.

SRWMX: Picked up this replay randomly. Got Full Armor Dendoh permanently, and am generally slaughtering the game now that I have upgraded mechs. Highlight so far was killing Dinodilus in the stage where she retreats after three turns, using a Unison Kick supported by Dijeh's finisher. Took forever, but I got the necessary damage.

Kings, yes, its not much.  Slimes and Babbles (the latter still being good source of EXP even late game, from my recollection), though, its good throughout so yeah.

Though, suppose the big thing about Kings is that they can drop Slime King Crowns or whatever, which can be used to make some bad ass items.

DDS 2: Did the jailer part. I employed el FAQo to get through that part quickly since I didn't find it fun.

Gale was awesome again. The others haven't done much yet. Cielo does seem more viable statvice now, but Roland is not looking too good.

Threads of Fate: Finished Mint's story. Her story was more fun than Rue's, but Rue's story felt more cannon. It was also much more fun, although easier, to use Mint. Seriously game designers, when you give a character the ability to transform into other creatures, the transformations doesn't have to be crap.
