Elminage: The Dark Witch and the Finger of God DS Remix - Side-project play. Acts like a first person dungeon-explorer. Death is permanent unless resurrection. Character customization is pretty interesting. Presence of Lawful/Neutral/Chaotic is not to be neglected as it affects party formation (lawful can't be with chaotic and vice versa, for obvious reasons) and class restrictions (Only Neutral can have Valks, only Chaotic can have Ninja etc).

It's looking quite neat so far.

Is it my imagination, or did you just describe Wizardy I?

Wrath: 79, shooting for 80 today provided they don't do yet another extended maintenance.  Not having any problems with hammering down upwards of 10-12 mobs at a time, though that's more Imp. Blizzard being absolutely H4x in a frost build.  Lengthy Shatter-chain criticals make up for the fact my base crit rate curled up and died as I'm nearing the cap.  Planning on going back to Fire as soon as I can get my hands on gear that isn't T6/Sunwell stuff.

FF3: Third-tier jobs open, just as Thief and Warrior hit their peaks for stats and power, respectively. Thief has party-best defense thanks to the Black equipment and Thief Gloves (plus now has actual offense with two Boomerangs), and Warrior is breaking 1000 damage easily with Advance using the Blood and Regal swords. Geomancer's been very solid, and I'm waffling on keeping Luneth as a White Mage or switching to Evoker.

On FFTA2:
I'm not even sure Mirror Items is that much cheesier than Blood Price and the Parivir's double damage+elemental+status strikes.  It's pretty easy to reach, as one NPC puts it,  -EPIC- VIOLENCE.   That said, they did improve on FFTA significantly.

Mirror Items is just -earlier-, is my thing. I got it right around the time I unlocked Parivir, and I've still only got like four skills for Parivirs. Blood Price, ditto, though Blood Price/Summoner/Doublecast should be goddamn brutal.

Mirror Items is just... duel broken, since it takes twinkish setups on other people whereas in a duel Seeq Rangers have all they want right there.

But yeah, Parivir's looking breakable, as does Blood Price.

GTA4-200/200 Pidgeons, 50/50 Unique Stunts, all Most Wanted people dead, all races won at least once. I probably won't win another 11 or so to get the achievement. Guess I'm not Genetically Superior =(

Doing missions for the McReary family, which is always entertaining. It's starting to be a pain in the ass to do all this shit and still keep all the activities people happy though. Almost got everybody into the 90s range, just need Brucie and Packie up there, and Brucie's like one more visit away.

Of all my deaths so far, roughly 80% are from Unique Jumps, and all but a couple of those are from the last two jumps, the ones you have to do off the freeway. The last one especially was a pain in the ass, since you had to hit it in just the right way, with just the right angle, and then you have to hope that traffic doesn't spawn in the worst possible place. Took me 45 minutes to do. On the other hand, the physics are hilariously painful. Watching Niko fly across the street, bounce off the hood of a taxi, then somersault his way into a telephone pole before landing on top of his bike never gets old.
Don't think of it as a novel. Think of it as a chance to retroactively win every argument you have ever walked away from.

Dangeresque 3, played through-
More of the same with a different theme, which is a good thing. Some of the game-is-actually-a-movie bits get pretty giggle-worthy so it's all good.
Still lacking too many nongeneric responses and non-missable things, which I don't expect to change anyway and yet I will constantly go on about it.
I managed to trigger an old event partway through which caused annoyance to happen in the office for the remainder of the game; also, the voices cut out on me during the ending D: Good thing I leave subtitles turned on. Telltale seem to be getting sloppier with each game; there was one point in Baddest where the voice failed, but it was just the one line, and I don't remember any glitching beyond that.

EB had DQIV while I was there, finally, so I picked that up. Got Rocket Slime as well, and since that's an earlier game in some sense, I've been playing that. Good fun.
I've finished the main storyline and the arena, so I'm not entirely sure what I have left to do. Got (bronze) statues of most monsters, around five to go? Not sure whether I'll bother going for silver/gold statues as they don't appear to have any effect aside from prettiness as far as I've seen.
Probably should fill out the item and recipe lists as well, although I really have no clue as to where the rest of the recipes might be, and I can see farming items for other items getting on my goat in short order. Also still have one hp upgrade to get, but it requires items I can't access yet.

Game'd have trouble being much easier? First time my engine compartment was blown open was in the final battle, which made the battle EASIER because the AI fails horrifically at attacking your engine, so it turned into beat up the enemy whenever they come over to attack the engine and the rest of the time blast their tank which is no longer defending itself. And, of course, when you go to attack THEIR engine, they drop their attack on yours and try to defend theirs (and suck horribly at it). Only the final arena battle enemy (where a similar situation happened) had any semblence of intelligence when it came to attacking the engine, but it still wasn't difficult to kick him out, and when I got up to attacking his I kept him occupied by throwing him at his own fuses >_>

Game really wanted ways to customise your tank layout and such. It's nice that a handful of enemy tanks have custom features like the ones with the drills, but you can only use them in the arena anyway.

Chrono Trigger DS:  Minor translations aside, it's pretty much the same game.  DS touch screen functions and map features is pointless given how linear fields are in the game.  Frog's ye old english is gone, and Magus is more refered to as fiendlord than by name.  The only complaint is numbers are too small to read.

The Last Remnant: I don't see Niu playing this! So inb4Niu.

......eeeeeh I'm still not seeing that as being more -broken- than Blood Price's Oh Hey I Can Cast Spells That Make The People Fall Down From The Start.

Blood Price also gets points for feasibly making MP Shield a viable Reaction. (wut)

I dunno. Parivir looks cute and full of potential but his skillset thus far -sucks- even with Auction abuse and I've not even seen Geomancy yet.

Eternal POIZN: Got BAD END on Thage's path.  King Bellion got reduced to a rather easy challenge due to Terra III having an inexplicably good rate of inflicting Fracture on those that seem to be vulnerable (mainly Howling and Infernal types).  Will be replaying her path eventually, taking her and Retica on their alternate class-changes to get stats for those.  Analysis so far for mains:

Thage: Heavy, no doubt.  Averageish speed (I had a fast party selection for the most part), but she packs a mix of magic immunity and overkill damage that is hard to beat, getting Malusphere at Hellcaster L20, according to Talaysen.  Malus IV can also inflict Curse, sealing physical techs.  Really...she's not nice, and autowins versus FE and VP Mages, as well as the typical no-physical bosses.  Hates it if both her elements can't do anything, though, as the book whacks of doom aren't that of doom.  Will be checking the other path out on a second playthrough of her storyline.

Ranunculus/"Raki": At least a low Heavy, at least as Windrunner.  Speed only beaten by Ares and a few generic enemy Majin, and insane damage off of Dual Attack (300 or so to pierce-neutral), and Steel Roar, both of which he can use twice.  Hampered by being all-physical, but he's also got very solid durability.  VERY respectable.  Also, pity that he doesn't get any Air spells beyond Aero I, because that S-rank in Wind is being wasted.  A tragedy indeed.

Retica: Meh.  Some sort of low Middle/high Light.  Damage isn't impressive, speed is okay, and all he really has is his healing spells on the Water route.  I'll see what he gets on the Dark route, but it looks to be status spells as opposed to Thage's overkill.  Decent support in-game on the grounds that regen and AoE healing are useful, and bow harassment is always handy for wearing enemies down, but not Duel material.

Started Olifen's path.  He's...nowhere near as good as Thage.  No magic immunity, damage is more averageish.  He's got speed and the game's equivalent to Haste, though, so that may be relatively useful.

Also: RANK MOON BELATOR.

WAXF Gadgeteer SCC

Okay, I had assumed that 1.5 would be the final pain in the ass chapter.  I was wrong--1.6 has four mages up on high pedistals, one of whom has ridiculous magic defences.  Normally it's possible to get up there and physical with Tony, but Tony's not required for this fight so...craploads of gems I need to buy.

Little Big Planet: Solid platformer.  Really physics based, even more obnoxiously so than Loco Roco.  Dunno if that's enough to sink the game yet, but it really might be.

It's all about multipliers.  To use the Mirror Item example, imagine if there was another X-Potion-boosing ability for Seeq  that stacked with Item Lore.   Plus you can still do things like switch to Paladin (Knightswords) and have another unit buff them.

Lego Star Wars: Completed Episodes 4-6, and picked up all the multiplier bricks. It's kind of perverse scoring 100 million studs in one level without trying. Unlocking everything and everyone now, I'm at 57% completion.

SRWZ: Beaten! Yay. The Edels never got a MAP off and died pretty easily, although I'd have gotten caught by the respawning gimmick without an FAQ. Carryover: 9.2 million cash, 6,400 blue stones and 2,900 PP. None of which will be useful to me, because my next run is Setsuko on EX-Hard. I hope I survive.

FF3: Got my airship back after reviving the world all Terranigma-like, and stopped off to pick up Gaia Gear and some awesome Feathered Hats and Rune Armlets before starting the next leg of plot. Party is still Thief/White Mage/Warrior/Geomancer, and all of them are pretty much kicking ass. The only real weaknesses are White Mage's offense (Yeah, never saw that coming) and Warrior's defense. The latter is mitigated by the fact that he deals about 1,500 damage with Advance and heals nearly half his max HP from every attack thanks to the Blood Sword.

TotA: Went from the Tataroo Valley revisited to finishing Mt. Zoleho. Moving at a decent clip, so I might finish it by the end of the week, possibly early next. Kinda going through the motions plot-wise, but I like how the story's turned out. Sync's character non-withstanding. Granted, it makes more sense than the whole Natalia thing and went away as soon as it popped up. Oh well.

FF3DS: Just got to World of Darkness.

Xande really sucks; trying to deny otherwise is like claiming its best to attack Guard Scorpion while the Tail is up.

FF9: Yeah, started a new game of this.  Got 95 Nobles impressed on my 3rd try in the sword mini game and felt that was enough!

Just beat Ice Caverns, then went overworld fighting for a while to find that freaking Mu...seems to the thing is in a forest despite FAQs claiming plains, so I spent an extra 15 minutes and such more.  Oh well, early game FF9, its not like I'm actually grinding.

Also, forgot how much weapons make a huge damage jump in this game relative to other FFs.  Zidane crushes Steiner in damage (like 80~ to 50~) with Mage Masher until Steiner gets Iron Sword, then he crushes Zidane (150~ to 80~)...then Zidane gets Mythril Dagger from Sealion and starts crushing Steiner again (200~ vs. 150~)!

Note the jump in power of these weapons is like 2 points and such, so yeah; think its safe to say the worth of fighters in this game really depends on their weapons...a lot...

Beat 1.6.  It occurred to me that I didn't actually need 9 + 2 + 2 + 2 gems.  I could instead wait for all the elementalists on the hill to lose all their VP and then HP, and then I'd only need 4 gems instead of 15.

In retrospect:
A: this was probably slower than just grinding for cash.  They're slow, lose 5 VP per turn, and all had like...200 or so VP?
B: I should have killed all but one of my own units--selecting wait on spot for six units slowed things down a lot and it's not like I need the small exp bonus.

FF3DS: Beaten!  Dark Guardians are still insulting compared to their original selves...except for Ceberus who somehow learned that "suck" was not a good thing and decided to stop training in that stat.

Cloud of Darkness was actually pretty easy this time around.  First off, I noticed Ninja could use Genji Shield; given it needs the durability boost, and is going to be using nothing but Throw against the CoD, I figured giving it a Genji Shield and placing it in the Back Row was ideal; this raised its durability dramatically.

Next off, I had 3 White Musks and 7 Chocobo Wrath's, and a JL99 Scholar.  Needless to say, there were lots of values above 9000 in that fight, many a time I saw 9999 (which is a lie! Its higher.)  Scholar was more or less useless on things not bosses though; can't do crap for randoms.  Bosses, ti has Item Casts and due to obscene JLevels, Cura actually is not half bad healing, so works for a secondary healer.

Knight...Ragnarok/Excalibur combo, etc.  Also let me not worry about PCs who were in near fatal range, which finally actually started occurring in the final dungeon!

Last PC was a Sage.  Why not a Devout? I like a PC who can help end fights faster, and Sage is much better at this than Devout.  It has less MP, but in general, 5 Curaja's and 10~ Curaga's is enough.  Also, its slow, which is a good thing here, since it means it consistently goes after bosses so I know he'll be healing something (Devout tends to lend itself to unpredictable situations, I found.)

Anyway, strategy against the CoD?
Well, first off, I actually went after the Tentacles this time.  I did this cause I remember Particle Beam by itself isn't so much threatening as it is that the entire 4 turns she gets is nasty.  If I can get rid of Lightning (for all that the Mages mock it with resistance), that'd help the Fighters a lot.  The Bad Breath Tentacle...mostly just gets rid of a potential physical that could be unexpected.

So my first few turns was Refia (Ninja) throwing Shurikens at Left Tentacle, and Arc (Scholar) using White Musks/Chocobo Wrath's on Right Tentacle.  Luneth (Knight) was item casting Defender, cause I could use the defensive boost and wondered how much it'd help.  Also worth reminding people that Particle Beam is an HP Trigger, something she never uses at full HP, so I know I had time to set up (2 physicals + Lightning isn't too scary, unless she crits the physicals.)
Ingus (Sage) was just casting Curaga/ja every turn, just in case.
Eventually, after Defender was used on every PC, Luneth helped kill the Left Tentacle; at this point, Refia equipped Moonring Blade (and I forgot to put Masamune back on later...oh well, no big deal! Forget if Speed even MATTERS for Throw), and just started physicalling the thing, so I could conserve Shurikens (I probably had enough, but why risk it?)  The Right Tentacle falls first, so Arc starts casting Cura and such, while Ingus casts Bahamut in hopes for Aura (not crucial, but it'd help)...first try gets Aura, ok then!  Not complaining <_<

Tentacles down, go all out on the main body! Particle Beam is fired!

...highest value I saw was 1150.  All my PCs but Arc and Ingus broke 2400 HP, though Ingus was a Sgae, so he was taking less anyway.  Basically, Protect made her fail to 2HKO with Particle Beam, and the follow up Physical failed to KO anyone as a result (barring maybe Arc if she criticals.)

At this point? Fight was pretty much all downhill.  Refia throws Shuriken, Arc tosses whatever Chocobo Wrath's I have left, Luneth attacks, Ingus casts Curaga/ja, fight ends in about 6 turns after the tentacles die.

Yeah, knowing how that fight works makes it so much easier.  I'm also convinced that Summoner is a *BAD* choice for that fight, since if you go the "Kill Tentacles" route, you'll deal damage to the Cloud herself, which might push her into Particle Beam range...which defeats the purpose.  Strikes me as a case where the Magus is clearly the better choice, due to ST options (Summoner is probably better in like all other scenarios though!  Well, supposedly Magus has good status rates, and things are actually vunlerable if Sage's Shiva/Ramuh are any indication, but shhh!)

Using Scholar was...interesting.  Its offense isn't actually as bad as you'd think for a good part of the game due to massive JLevels, often hitting elemental weakness, etc.  It is, however, a liability on durability since it requires Front Row to pull wait in randoms.  It is excellent on Bosses of course, due to 2x Item effectiveness; tossing Bomb Arms/Arctic Winds kills most bosses as far as...oh...Eureka, probably Xande too, but he's not exactly what we call a "Threat"

Knight...meh, still think other physical classes are better.  He's good for the final stretch of the game *IF* you used one consistently, since he really needs those JLevels to get those extra hits in for good offense, as Ragnarok/Excalibur combo is pretty awesome.  Cover isn't as useful as it could be since most enemies are good at working around that Near Fatal Range.  Also he's Slow.
Worst part is he requires 2 Eureka Weapons to be made good, there by killing the potential use of Dark Knight, Warrior, and Red Mage.  If you're using Red Mage that late, its for the advent of a High Magic Defense PC with MPless damage *AND* Healing; Red Mage really needs Excalibur/Break Blade combo to pull that off (no, this doesn't hurt Warrior much; Warrior can use Dual Haken which is almost as good as Break Blade as a supplement, so Ragnarok/Dual Haken still works fine.  Drop from Break Blade to Defender is MUCH larger on the otherhand...) Also worth noting all 3 of those PCs can item cast Defender for free Protects, which as I just pointed out, helps immensely against the Cloud of Darkness.
Viking has the same issues as Knight, but I feel Provoke is more practical since it doesn't require PCs in the same range; further more, he gets better armors before Diamond Stuff (Knight Armor is good until...Amur; that's when it starts lagging compared to other stuff; when Viking Armor starts lagging, Viking gets other equip upgrades anyway, so it doesn't care), stronger weapons throughout before Eureka, and can hit elemental weakness for that mid portion where all those Lightning weak enemies exist.
Dragoon...mostly the ability to equip strong, totally unique weapons alone by itself is a merit; Gungnir gotten as early as it is is only a bonus, and Jump has some nice uses when paired with Blood Lance.

Ninja's solid, if a bit worrisome on durability.  Less tanky than like all other fighters (barring maybe Thief?), though it pretty much always goes first due to Dagger speed boosts (let alone Masamune), and Throw is good if you need some quick damage on bosses (most notably against the CoD.)  Oh, Moonring Blade sucks, mostly cause Lust Dagger is every bit as useful, but trade in "Same damage from Back Row" which is pointless when paired with a melee weapon (like, say, Masamune) for +5 Speed or whatever (this almost insures an extra hit...)
Also is clearly an upgrade of a Thief in like all ways; only advantage Thief has is those massive JLevels and possibly some good Steals.  Not...that this is a bad thing, perse; Thief wasn't exactly a bad class once you hit Amur and such.

Other classes I used previous game, so no real comments on them.
[21:39] <+Mega_Mettaur> so Snow...
[21:39] <+Mega_Mettaur> Sonic Chaos
[21:39] <+Hello-NewAgeHipsterDojimaDee> That's -brilliant-.

[17:02] <+Tengu_Man> Raven is a better comic relief PC than A

SRWZ: Beaten! Yay. The Edels never got a MAP off and died pretty easily, although I'd have gotten caught by the respawning gimmick without an FAQ. Carryover: 9.2 million cash, 6,400 blue stones and 2,900 PP. None of which will be useful to me, because my next run is Setsuko on EX-Hard. I hope I survive.

Planning to get Four and Stella? It can be pretty nasty if you wan to do it along with high SR.

I'd like to, but I'll have to see just how hard the game gets. I'm not going to torture myself too much with this.

Hm, Tifa with G-Bit than? Wait.. that is even harder.
