PB - Beat! Sulphur was funny in that I screwed around for 10-something turns and I wasn't even close to seeing his face in the turn gauge. Had Ash Heliotrope him for style, although a Marona Thwap would've overkilled him two times over anyway. >_> Fun times. Man, I -love- this game.

So, since I'm in the mood for it, raaaaaaaaaaant.

First things first, the bad: the balance? It's really not there. >_> The game is hilariously broken - the tools to infinitely bust the game's balls with a bus stop sign ad nauseum forever and ever are given to you like 1/8 of the game in, the weapon balance skill-wise is pretty um what, and the game often feels a bit messy. Not to mention it has some scaling issues - the lategame enemies jump pretty notably from the rest of the maingame (where they fail so epically that I don't think you'd struggle with a fusionless party relying solely on weapons bought from the merchant and picked up stuff), and then there's Mr. "I make Pyro emo" Sulphur, who, from glancing at the stats, certainly doesn't surprise me as a run stopper in PB. This is the nature of the beast that is PB, though: the game is basically what would happen if Worms Armaggedon and Kirby's Dream Course had a night out and their manbaby was an SRPG. The system is insanely flexible, as in "YOU CAN DO EVERYTHING" flexible.

Which ties into one of the main appeals it has: its flexibility is unparalled, and very creative at it, and it's saddled with a few great fundamentals I wish more SRPGs had. The movement system is excellent and very unique - instead of being based on squares/hexes movement, it's based on actual distance, and you can cover any direction or path as many times as you want - as long as you don't exceed the maximum movement per turn given. Since PB has many uses for precision movement and some pretty over-the-top map design, this is absolutely wonderful. The entire battle system is very creative, in fact: you can do some absolutely ludicrous things with the movement and action freedom you're given. Lift enemies to keep 'em locked into a single target until you're ready? Sure. Pick up a weapon that gives horrible stat penalties and toss it on an enemy to make him fail? Yes, yes. Jump on the foe's head? Sure! Lifting and stealing things like nobody's business? Now we're talking. And that's not to mention how freaking vast your weapon options are: while the balance is awkward, they're all rather different and you can use the fusion system to cherrypick the best stuff of a single weapon and pass to another, or fix a weapon's issues with varying degrees of practicality. While it's not an elegant system, it's very unique, creative and downright entertaining to see unfold.

Plot is breezy and simple. Marona gets kicked like a puppy, toddles along, but she persists, and her life starts getting better - while the world starts having more issues due to Sulphur coming back. Until SULPHUR PLOT kicks in, it's slice-of-lifeish, although the first four chapters are infuriating due to everybody who isn't Marona being an ass until Castile and her family show up. But the later parts of the cast are considerably more endearing, even if they're not truly badass. Sprout and Walnut still failfailfail, though. It's impressive how much he picked up in SN. <_<

The atmosphere and setting are also a breeze. Tropical island set with a nice feel really is a cool setting, and it's taken advantage of nicely in the game's atmosphere. It's not like it trainwrecks it out like CC or anything, and it just works. Nothing fancy or impressive, but it does its job. Helped by the wonderful soundtrack, of course.

I can't really put in words all that well why I liked PB so much, but I do. It's just a very breezy, dispretentious, creative game with a bottomless twinking system and nice characters and setting that is just the thing to tinker with when you want something that is charming, yet simple. Really enjoyable, and I'll do the aftergame once I get past a game or two of my new gaming haul. 9/10.

FE10 - Beat this nearly two weeks ago. Think I had a reset on both E3 and E5, no real shocks there. The final boss also one-rounded Kurth, which I did not expect. Guess that's what I get for not levelling him. Note to self: next time I do that, leave him on the bench for Gareth/Sanaki/whoever.

Super PC #2 has a bit of an awkward starting position and needs to be traded a weapon, but his stats are competly broken (40 magic + doubles everything) and it's nice to have someone who specialises in killing the magic auras.

Notes on the other PCs...

Naesala never did hit SS Strike, and I certainly gave him his share of action. Respect for him down a tad.
Caineghis OHKOs Swordmasters, aka the enemy he doesn't double. Well then. He's better than I thought.
Pelleas is very solid until E-4 where he just starts failing abysmally. Stupid speed cap. Fortunately he can fall back on his staff rank, Micaiah-style, though he's not as good at it.
Jill, similarly, surpasses Titania at that point for similar reasons. They were pretty close to equal beforehand.
Volug hit SS Strike in E-1 and was pretty much Nailah Jr. A bit less in every stat and no Formshift, but shockingly close overall. Had better Atk than Naesala which is surprising. And that sexy earth support. Raw defences were the main thing that needed some work, but at least he has HP/evade.
Marcia, the Wishblade user, spent almost all her time in E3 using Wyrmslayer instead. Bit of a testament to the usefulness of that weapon. Oh yeah, on that note, Titania > Jill on that map for similar reasons... except that Jill was much better against the boss, the only PC I had besides Caineghis who did any notable work there. Caineghis, fortunately, is practically soloing the guy with the help of a heron and a dragon, so it doesn't matter.

Not much else to say. Game rules as always. New plot was appreciated, though shouldn't have been withheld, etc., etc., you know the story there.

SH3 - Beat Purgatory. The hardest part, honestly, was the beginning, where Johnny has to survive alone against remarkably competent enemies including an unusually tough solo boss, who killed me once. I got Shania as my second PC, and she proceeds to break the game with Sun Flare -> whatever @ 1.5x damage Dream Porter combos, and Sunlit Vale / Shining Zephyr to own bosses. It takes until the third boss to start getting quick hits, and by the fourth you can mercilessly combo them to death, though the sixth at least put up a decent fight. Envious Jealousy itself is pretty much Lady minus; yes he's better unscaled, but certainly not for the time. Like Lady he 2HKOs, has Lost Progress, and a lot of HP. Unlike Lady he has no MT whatsoever, which not only eases the threat and healing concerns, but it means that even if he gets a Double, you're not going to be wiped out. And he only has one turn. And lacks the Entrance shenanigans, or the possibility of a three-part D-combo. Now, he DOES have Quick Hits, which of course have the potential to be scary, but really, nothing special otherwise. Probably about on par with Gilbert as a boss, honestly.

Still, the dungeon overall was pretty fun, as expected. Randoms were awesomely damaging by the end, but very merciful on Stock Gauge bonuses, so the game really encouraged comboing them to death before their damage could become an issue. I imagine that if you got ambushed you would die horribly, but I can't imagine why you wouldn't have a Warning Device; technically the sidequest that gives it isn't a prerequisite, but I imagine if you're doing all the other sidequests that ARE, you'll stumble upon that one.

Ether Purge is predictably broken, though really lacks any practical use whatsoever, outside NG+. OHKOs all randoms but really expensive. I guess you can use it to help own the final boss, particularly after a Sun Flare and Soul Valet it should just be devastating, but whatever. Maybe I'll go do that at some point when I'm bored.

Levels for fighting EJ were 62 Shania, 60 Johnny, and everyone else in the mid 50's. It's amusing how Johnny will easily have the MP for two Ether Purges in-game but only gets one in the DL, but honestly he's pretty fortunate to have it at all.

EDIT: Oh right, almost forgot to mention the game's other superboss, which is a beefed up Tin Lion from SH2. Very amusing. He basically works like this (gameplay spoilers!):

-He gains 1 stock gauge per action.
-On a normal turn, if he has no stock, he'll spend a turn assessing the situation (and gain stock), at a normal recharge rate.
-If attacked, he'll counter with Kill. Kill is the most broken ST attack ever pretty much; it does 10000 damage (though if you're really lucky you can dodge it), and has no recharge time whatsoever, meaning he gets another turn right after, this time with stock, and this is bad because...
-If he gets a turn with stock, he'll Double and use Kill twice. With the same stock gaining and zero recharge time.
-He takes 0 from all physical and magical damage.

If you've been paying attention, then you should have put together that as soon as he uses Kill once (i.e. reaches his second turn, or counters), he'll get an infinite chain of turns and keep attacking until you're dead.

Basically the only way to kill him is to exploit his two status weaknesses, in order. The first is Apathy, which stops him from gaining Stock. This allows him to use Kill counters safely; yeah, it kills a PC and gives him another turn, but he'll gain no Stock and promptly will use that turn to assess the situation. The second is poison. Pretty cute solution. Sounds obscure, until you remember that the SH3 bestiary shows status weaknesses, so Johnny can take a picture, and then you can check it after the first time you lose to him (it's a pit fight, so no game over when you do).

Ether Purge can be used to (over)kill Lady in one combo, incidentally. It's fun.

So, started up P3.  Given that all I know is that the guy is mute, has supernatural beings stalking the place he lives, and saves the world by shooting himself in the head, the choice of name was obvious.

So it was that Shinji Ikari is off to save the day.

So far, dabbling a bit with Magician S Link and joined the Kendo Club.  Impressed that they manage to create the illusion of the main saying things when it isn't important while still keeping him mute.

Portal:  Up to the 15th room.  I remain resolute in the face of extreme pessimism.

GH4:  I would like metroid composite to convey two messages to his coworkers at Activision:

1) Whoever decided the band's name should be in tiny, squished-together, red letters in the upper-left corner of the screen should be shot.  Totally unreadable.

2)  Whoever made the lead singer dance during Beat It should get a raise.

If this is the same person, you can wait until after shooting him to give him the raise.

WA4 Speedrun take 3: This time with video recording. Link to current progress and comments can be seen in this link for those interested.

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=305591F478BB0265

I've been working on this a little bit at a time. Right now though, Miscreation makes me want to go in the game and strangle him. I remember when I first fought him in my very first game and I thought he was easy as hell because I never saw one of those counters! Then on solo runs, I remember being somewhat worried because those counters would appear. Now on this specific speedrun, he's spamming them every which way, RIGHT when seeing them leads to death of at least one person. Oh, and getting owned by POIZN 3 times now doesn't help :(

I am going to take a game with 3 Sheriff Stars and tear him a new one. That asshole.

NOTE: I really really hate Stone bullet counters.

PB - Beat! Sulphur was funny in that I screwed around for 10-something turns and I wasn't even close to seeing his face in the turn gauge. Had Ash Heliotrope him for style, although a Marona Thwap would've overkilled him two times over anyway.

Curse you, what's the fun with Sulphur if there is no pain!!

Onion Knight: FAST! Hits a lot!  A bit awkward on HP attacks.
If by that you mean terribly broken

Quote
Cloud of Darkness: Definitely not a beginner character; the DMC bases behind her makes her interesting, but yeah, someone you have to seriously put effort into to get the full use out of her.  She seems decent if actually trained with.
If by that you mean terribly broken.

Quote
Cecil: Weird.  Dark Knight seems kind of crappy, considering its slow and can't do shit for Aerial, though guess he's good if you know exactly how to use him, where as Paladin is pretty good.  Paladin sucks on ground, though, its a lot easier to force aerial combat than ground based combat (...if you're not Firion, who can sit back and force the enemy to come to them, so he gets around this flaw), and his general quickness makes him much easier to use.

Dark Knight is a stationary fighter. You basically attracts enemy with Dark Cannon and unleash your combo, or just follow up with Soul Eater for easy damage. Adjust the distance between you ad the enemy with Dark Flame.

Quote
Squall: Heel Crash is a bit weird, and frankly, he needs a better HP attack since Aerial Circle and Fated Circle (I'm guessing that's the ground one) are a pain to hit with.  His basic ground combo does some nice damage though, and he's not bad on speed.

Squall is a ground fighter. Aerial Circle is his only in air HP damage, and most of his moves pin the enemies tot he ground. Fated/Aerial Circle are actually good against mages, since he is under magic-guard state when using those move.

Quote
Zidane: If you're attacked by him, you're going aireborne.  HP Attacks are a bit unintuitive, but he's good at keeping pressure on so he can sneak in the needed move unexpectedly.

Terrible hit box define shim well. Despite said to be an aerial fighter, his aerial Brave attacks just... gah CRAPPY hit box, and can not hit a thing diagonally.

Quote
Tidus: Runs all over the place hitting things.  His Blitz Ball attacks give him some actual range, and SPiral Cut isn't bad once you learn how to use it; pity about Energy Rain.

Energy Rain is actually pretty good. Slow yes, HUGE hit box though, also an awesome counter move. That make shim not suck even in terrain like Pandemonium. But Tidus' true essence lies in his dodge game, 90% of his move makes him auto dodge first, and they can all be chained into HP damage.

FF fighter that is Nomura ARPG in disguise-

Butz need to shut up, we don't need anymore Justin. And Golbez is becoming a Mary Sue.

Used Squall a bit more, not too good. His Brave moves are brutal yes, but it is hard to follow into Hp damage. All of his HP moves are slow, and only one can be used in air. Blasting Zone is just hellish slow, by that I mean worse than Lucy's Perfect Symmetry in SO3 that even Maria can out run. The only decent one is Rough Divide, but being ground only made it less useful. Thus I end up using Aerial Circle more, at least they gives you protection against magic.

Gabranth is fun. Fast close range move with decent invinci frame. Though, somewhat easy to dodge. It is also easy to cancel out of his move into dodge, safety fighter. Innocence alone covers his offense, huge range with decent speed. It can even strike down mages from afar if used right.

I need someone who has a Regalia to do me a favor if possible.  I have an extra one on one of my alts and need to send it to another alt.  Since I can't Bucket Send between alts (*sigh*), could I send it to someone here and have you send it to my alt for me?  I'd be glad to send along something else the next day as a thank you!

Can't help you with that, as I'm not encumbered by that particular "problem" myself.

P4:  Shadow Erdrick was a rather competent boss, so had to do some massive grinding to beat him.

Got hot and sweaty with Chie.  Level 2 Personas are nifty - no weaknesses!

Trip to Port Island was cool.  Nice to see all that time I spent "maxing" Chihiro in her "Justice" turned out well.

Is it my imagination, or did Dojima's voice actor just change?

Dissidia: Yay, finally went out and purchased this. After playing it for about 10 minutes, I fully understand what Niu means by "ARPG disguised as a Fighter". It's a fairly interesting concept and I really like how differently each of the characters plays (so far... on level 1-ish for each of them).

The menus feel like Valkyrie Profile for some reason.

How does this whole Summon thing work? I have Carbuncle, but after using him a few times, he seems to be out of commission. Do I have to find him again? Or can I get more 'charges' for him?

Summons can be used I think 3 times before they need to "recharge."  You can set it so your character auto equips a new summon when one goes out, at least up to 3.  So say you have Bahamut, Carbuncle and Leviathan.  You can equip Bahamut, then set the order so when Bahamut runs out, next fight you auto equip Carbuncle, then after he runs out, go to Leviathan, and so forth.  It recharges based on battles fought without using it, I think.

FF3: Finished this. I misread the faqs on where the point of no return was and entered the World of Darkness earlier than I planned to, but I beat CoD on the first try, fortunately. Class thoughts first, then bosses.

I very nearly ran out of healing resources in Goldor's mansion, which convinced me to finally make the switch from Red Mage over to White. It did the healing job well enough, though nothing really worth hyping; itemcast damage was noticably worse than RM's by that point, but RM damage was pretty much worthless by that point, anyhow.

Geomancer was pretty badass for most of the game that it's available for, but started tailing off near the end as stuff like Wind Slash and Ice Pillar weren't cutting it for damage anymore. It was worthwhile enough in the Ancients Maze where you got Cave In and Earthquake and borderline broken in Eureka with its 40% Shadow Flare rate, but it was time for retirement when I went to do the Crystal Tower proper.

Warrior was the overall MVP class for the entire game. Advance damage is just badass, and easily covers the period between Royal/Blood and Ancient Sword that the Knight-obsessed faqs all complain about, as I was OHKOing every random during that period anyhow. The supposed armor gap during that period was also rendered irrelevant by the Blood Sword's massive draining with Advance during that period. The damage just kept getting better and better as the game goes on, and the amount that Advance dishes out with Ragnarok equipped is a thing of beauty.

Thief finally started to pay off as an investment after the Sarunia period, as the damage started outpacing a basic Warrior physical (but not Advance) noticably. The defense really sucked though, so I ended up benching it after stealing a Gungnir from Odin.

Dragoon was somewhat disappointing as a damage dealer, even with Gungnir. It was fine at first, but was noticably underwhelming against randoms in Ancient Maze and especially Eureka. The improved defenses over Thief were definately welcome though, and the Holy Lance itemcast of all things came in handy in the final battle.

Devout is a solid upgrade for the dedicated healer job over White Mage, though nothing spectacular. Having more L5 charges than L4 was strange, but as that's the Curaga tier I'm not complaining. Lots of Curaga/ja/Arise, which is what you want most for a healer in the tough fights.

Sage's damage was pretty overhyped by certain people *cough*; unless you burn one of their few L8 charges, which are generally better saved for Arise anyhow, they're stuck with casting Aeroga for 2000-3000 as their best, which is pretty pathetic endgame. The list of advantages over Devout basically boil down to Heatra for strong but unreliable healing at the otherwise worthless L4 slot, more shots of Cure/Cura for out of battle healing, ability to equip the Omnirod, and stronger itemcasts if you want to kill the phys immune tentacle. That's good enough to justify using it as your (very much needed) second healer for the enormous final dungeon sequence, but definately feels inferior to Devout as a primary healer option.

As far as bosses go, Garuda was brutal and took a bunch of tries. I basically needed four jumps plus some extra damage from Terrain to kill, but just getting a second turn for my Dragoons was a difficult task. Guess I could've used more than two of them, but I would've had to buy more weapons and forgo good armor in that case.

No boss between Garuda and the World of Darkness was worth noting, including Xande. Cerberus was a brutal fight that ran me out of Arise charges on both healers, the other three kinda sucked.

Cloud of Darkness was an utterly brutal fight; I opted for the strategy of killing off the tentacles first to control damage that Meep mentioned earlier. The magic immune tentacle went down easily to Advance and Dragoon physicals, but the physical immune one took a while to kill off with ~6000 damage Holy Lance itemcasts and ~7000 damage White Musks off Sage. Incidentally, that tentacle's weak to Holy, as Chocobo's Wrath was only doing ~4000 to it. Even after all that, Cloud of Darkness could one-round either fighter with Particle Beam+Physical through Protect, so I needed tons of healing to get through the fight.

Pretty enjoyable game overall. I have too major gripe with the game; the first is the balance of physical/magic damage, which becomes completely one-sided in favor of physicals by endgame. The second is the lack of save points, which just made losses to bosses feel brutal - and the bosses in this game were definately good enough to kill you. Instead of reloading right before and experimenting with the fight, you felt inclined to powerlevel to make sure you don't lose the second time, which sucks, especially with the insanely long final dungeon. The short mountain hopping with the Invincible was also really dumb, but that wasn't significant enough a part of the game to merit *too* much complaining.

Persona 4 was sold out, so I picked up a copy of ToS2.  Just started it, but voiced skits and free run right off the bat are a good start.  The main is Shinji Ikari.  Here's hoping he's the recipient of a spine transplant soon.  Also a good thing I kept my old ToS saves, picked up a few pokemon-ish looking items that may come in handy once things get going.

MK: Finished the first chapter. Plot is awful but amusing enough anyway even if I can't get into the setting at all, gameplay seems fine though it's too early to say. Vayne is Bartz. Flay is The Tick and therefore awesome. Sulpher is better than everyone, of course.

Gameplaywise, Nikki is gamebest at HP/Atk/Spd, the last by a wide margin (to the point where instant doubles of enemies and other PCs was not unusual), and therefore is the best PC in Chapter 1. Vayne at least has the cool Anaylse. Jess is way too frail; those sword enemies in the Old School could OHKO her, and the boss missed it by a couple points. On the other hand, her repeato-healing gimmick is pretty cool, so she's not useless.

The game's earlier going was a bit harder than what I was expecting given the lofty reputation of Gust games in this regard - night can kick your ass if you reach it, and the two enemies I mentioned were both notably good. The constant Quick Hit spam of the C1 boss reminds me of Shadow Hearts 3, wonder if that becomes a pattern...

Game feels a bit stringent on SP resources. It ends up more annoying than an actual restriction since you can get it back easily just by leaving a dungeon, so bleh.

Don't really want gameplay advice, before anyone decides to start giving it. Appreciate the thought, though. ^_^
