Problems with the AI...not using any items other Medicine and Medical Powder. I had one reset against Lovers despite the battle being very easy >_>. Got charmed and COULDN'T heal out of it, so I died to a Heartbreaker. Also, Knock Down is weird. I remember fighting some stupid ice mages who had a fire weaknesses but the AI refused to cast fire spells on it >_>. When the enemy didn't have reflect! What.

One of the Tactics options should make a PC focus on knocking enemies down. If you're going for an all-out attack, it helps to use that (otherwise the AI will do silly things like use an ST spell on one enemy twice instead of an MT one that would disable the entire enemy party).

MGS: Beat Psycho Mantis. More fourth-wall breaking. I remembered the bit with the controller but forgot about "I can read your mind...you like Suikoden!" Hah. At the part where Meryl gets fragged by the sniper. Didn't remember what to do there, so I stopped for the night.

AWDC: Is it just me, or does everything seem to be doing less damage than in past installments...?

It varies by unit.  Some of the major things do less damage (bombers, battleships).  Veteran status will give you numbers closer to what you're used to.  Some of the weaker units are actually stronger, but only against their preferred units.  Try Recons against Rockets, Anti-Airs against infantry/mechs, and Battlecopters against any tanks.

Quote
I know it doesn't really affect anything whatsoever, but delineating movement and attacking and then having it go through in one sweep instead of actually moving then choosing what to do just seems really wierd. Although when I think about it didn't the earlier AWs charge you fuel for moves you took back during FoW? It seems like that's no longer possible for one. The manual talks about things in forests still only being able to be seen by adjacent units in FoW, but it looks like they can be seen regardless if you throw a flare over them, I'm not sure what's up with that.

The first AW charged you fuel for takeback moves.  AWDS did not.  Don't know about AW2.

FoW is completely changed now.  Woods *and* cities hide units.  When a unit moves, you get to see anything it would have seen during movement - so you can drive past a woods and see a unit that hides in it.  Flares light up a large area just like there is no FoW, so you can see any hidden units in that zone.  Flares are godly; use them.  I didn't think they were that good when I started, but I was very wrong.  They also beat the snot out of Anti-Airs!

Mountain of Faith: Cleared Easy with Reimu A. Mostly simple outside of the final's last couple phases, where I lost like four lives. The bit right before her second-to-last spellcard? Where she regularly goes invincible? That's just not fair.

Ys 1-Starting playing this. Gonna go grab the Ys book soon. It's fluffy and simple, and also real easy to just pick up whenever I wanna, which is appreciated. I'm just doing it a bit at a time whenever I feel like playing it, even so it shouldn't take long.
Don't think of it as a novel. Think of it as a chance to retroactively win every argument you have ever walked away from.

IaMP:  Got this running finally.  Actually runs fine on the laptop - I just misplaced the un-RARed files before.  After getting the default controls changed (who thought Y G J N was a good idea?), am now rocking the casbah.  1cced Easy with Reimu, Marisa, and Sakuya so far.  It's a decent fighter, but Valkyrie Fight seems to have more depth.

Captain: IaMP is all about zoning and field control. It's pretty interesting to watch matches of it if you're into space-based mindgames, but it's pretty simplistic and limited in terms of combos and advanced mechanics.

Apollo Justice: Finished! Case 4 combined the best investigation phase in the series for gameplay (and easily second-best overall behind 3-5) with the shortest, simplest final trial in history. Weird. Great game overall, and the new characters all pretty much kicked ass, Apollo in particular, which was a big relief. How long 'til PW5?

Fire Emblem 4: Chapter 4. Despite my brilliant levels of cheating I managed to miss Holyn entirely, although I wasn't planning on pairing him off anyway. Currently shooting for Aideen/Midir, Lex/Aira, Lachesis/Beowulf, Levin/Fury, Claude/Sylvia, Azel/Tiltyu, and Jamka/Brigid, with the first three already in play. It shouldn't be hard since all of these are apparently predestined.

Also, this would likely be my favorite FE game if they didn't completely screw up the inventory system all to hell. Not being able to move stuff freely is lose and fail. Otherwise, I like the large maps for some indescribable reason. Probably like a 4 game right now or something.

Poison Pink- Wow, the true end turn out to be such a bad end. Liber Aurora is gone, Izet is dead, with five Perfect Perfume running around. And Thazi still has her Liber Vesper and she is still bent on world destruction. Ahahaha, I can already imagine what is going to happen after the ending. Go, Flight Plan, go make a second game, this is too fun to just end here.

Diamond: Picked this back up after over two months hiatus, mostly because I hate the Victory Roads. If they were to get rid of all the stupid HM requirements, I would be a very happy person.

FFTA Alpha: Beat the Bounty, 104 missions complete.
FFTA Beta: Did some quick Montblanc tests for NR. Hint: If you let Ninjask go turn based rather than round based, he'll probably be doubling Montblanc from the second round on.

G2: Crossed the Granacliffs, glad to be out of Liligue. Oh god, the slowdown. I knew that happened in Cyrum; didn't remember it being a widespread problem with the game's cities.

I just finished PW4, and am presently honing my skills at nikujin speedruns when I'm not playing more SC or plotting my latest concoctions. Presently saving money from work so I can splurge it on a PS3 and DMC4.

Well, either that or cover half the cost of a frigging plane ticket to anywhere. Bloody Sony. If MGS4 wasn't platform exclusive...

Yeah, Liligue is the worst for it, I think. Honestly, the slowdown feels like the real mark of Valmar there, not the nonsense involving senses of taste or the lack thereof. <_<

PW3 - Started this. Love. And I never thought I'd say it, but Phoenix is a complete moron.

FFT - Like MC, did my first poaching ever as a modern FFT player (i.e. when I'm all concerned with efficiency) in our group playthrough this week. Unlike MC, it actually went fairly quickly to get two rare poaches (Zorlin Shapes). Still a couple hours or so no doubt, but once the Plagues were ready to go it wasn't too bad - 7 move Ninjas on Auto-battle in Zeklaus Desert (almost everything is weak to Fire Ball or Water Ball) = very, very quick victory, so the refights were short. And rather fun to watch; Ninjas embarass puny monsters.

MM5: Randomly beat the Robot Masters and the first of Protoman's stages on a whim...well, no, wasn't quite a whim, but shhh!

OS: Finished Mercedes Chapters.

Too stupidly easy; system was not designed for someone with spammable ranged attacks.

Also, Mercedes is just *HORRIBLE* as a character.  Why does she get hype? Cause she goes from Valley Girl to this Big Strong "I AM WOMAN HERE ME ROAR!" character?  No, with the amount of scenes OS chapters are, combined with how quickly she went out of that first stage, that development was horribly rushed.  Her development was...not something I found believable.  Again, its a manner of one scene and no real events that change the way she views things.

See, in Cornelius Chapters, I could kind of forgive the rush feeling; they weren't trying to tell the whole story of a character who was developing drastically over the course of the game.  Cornelius was pretty static, all things considered, its more about the things that are happening around him.  What felt rushed there was merely how they'd bring facts up out of nowhere that felt tossed in.  Ok, I can forgive that; its not a good thing, no, but its forgivable.
But in Mercedes case, they are trying to give full development to a character...in a manner of MAYBE an hour worth of plot scenes, and some of them are completely pointless (anything to do with Beldor comes to mind; that was just "We need to find him to get to the underworld!" "Ok, we're there, lets get Brom!")

I'm just not willing to accept this is as being a worthwhile character.  It was offensive in that regard.

So what about Gwendolyn then?  Her character wasn't as dynamic.  Gwen changed more in how she felt, not how she acted.  Her story was simply going from wanting to do anything for her father's love to realizing there's more important things in the world than that, to make it brief.  It generally worked too.

In any event, Mercedes was hardly likable, and her development was hardly believable, and the whole thing was rushed.  Now, combine that with how she was also probably the character that annoyed me the most as an enemy when confronted (vs. Gwen? Completely irrational to the point of not even letting her speak, being totally spoiled at that.  vs. Cornelius? Basically attacks him completely unprovoked, for no good reason), and we have ourselves a character whose hype I really can't see.  I...guess if you like someone changing dramatically as a reason enough alone, but...mrf, yeah, that alone doesn't do it for me.

SMT: Raido Kuzunoha Does Tokyo- Beat. Cute game. Odd difficulty spike in the last couple of bosses (Top of Waden One Boss with 100% MT Charm, I am looking at you), but otherwise relatively enjoyable. Lots of interesting things that I feel didn't get followed through on. For example, I like the setting work and the various Minion effects on NPCs, but they're either obvious solutions (Which sucks if you're not running that element) or fluff without consequence. I liked the build up in the last couple of chapters, and 8 and 9 were pretty wacky, but the ending sequence was not that interesting. Stays above average due to a certain historical figure and his unique condition, which was seriously hilarious.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village: Also beat. Very enjoyable, took about 13 hours. Played alot on a trip I took this past weekend. All sorts of puzzles, some of which you'll be stronger at that others, guaranteed. I, for example, breezed through the logic ones, but some of the visual problems, like the matchstick manipulations, gave me fits. Really well designed, though. Even a potentially annoying thing (Pixel hunting for coins/hidden puzzles) is ablated almost entirely by your ROBOT DOG, once you construct it. My game is currently glitched out at 131/131 puzzles, even though there are 132 completed in my Puzzle Index, so I can't unlock the last three. Alas. Apparently the very last puzzle in the game is the same one used in Lufia 2's World's Most Difficult Trick.

Probably going to keep my plate clear for Smash this weekend.

God Hand:

Completed.

Fun game in general. Hard beat'em up with generally ridiculously funny moments, no real downsides to my mind. Works. Hard to really say much, I summed the game up last time I talked about it.

Pokemon Emerald:

Decided to randomly start up a replay after rereading a bunch of Pokemon LPs.

My but there are weird Pokemon showing up this early!

<_<

>_>

Decided to do a playthrough with a bunch of Pokemon that normally show up late, but are still good. I suspect the very early game will get shredded badly, but it's not my fault Spheal comes with two STABs. >_>

VP2: Chapter 4 is short. Really, really short. Beat that and into CH5 now. Just went on the Go Back To Dipan Fetchquest and now I'm back at the Forest of Spirits.

Story/Characterwise: I'm liking Alicia and Rufus. The two of them really work all around. All the other plot characters are also varying forms of Good to just Okay, nobody's really bad at all. Lezard needed more lines in general, just because he is awesome, of course. Still, had I not played VP1 I would never have seen Lezard not being really on your side coming(I still haven't seen him actually do anything against the party, just know it's coming up and such). The story is a more classic RPG style of Out On A Quest, compared to VP1. It's good...but I don't think I like it better. There's plenty of On A Quest style RPGs out there, and VP1 is pretty much unique. Also VP2 lacks anything that nearly approaches the Einherjar Recruitment Scenes.

On that note, I'm really dissapointed with how they took an inherently cool concept like The Immortal Warriors Who Serve The Valkyrie After Death and made it...boreing. ESPECIALLY after VP1 making them so interesting. They're all just generics now, no real story or background(though having the ones who knew eachother talk to eachother in combat was a nice touch), and even having them all use the same PWS.

Gameplaywise: Honestly I'm not a huge fan of it. After getting the DTG and the sealstone pouches and opening up some more of the skill system...it's not annoying like it was early? But...hmm, it's a bit odd in that I enjoy boss fights, but not randoms at all. Really not sure what the disconnect is on that, but I had great fun fighting Hrist, for example, but slogging through randoms is a bore. That's...somwhat fixed now, as I use the Overleveled Temp Equips to just yawn my way through the randoms now and switch back to Standard Equips for bosses. Yay for what is effectively Random Skip.

Team right now is Alicia, Guilm, Phyress, Rufus. Using mainly the Stonehurler's Wrath and Lifeforce Blessing sealstones to compliment. Stonehurler's Wrath for the win and such. Even without the Temp Equips that sealstone with those two archers is practially a Random Skip.

Oh, and on a bosses note...uh, Ull for Godlike what? Did I just miss his money moves or something? I even gave him the chance to attack multiple times before I killed him off and he just....used Dual Tusk or something of the like over and over again. Not really impressive in the least. Someone mind filling me in on what I missed with him? EDIT: Okay, so I asked in chat and apparently this Ull was just being a tard with AI. Bleh. Hate it when I GIVE BOSSES TURNS to use thier big stuff so I can see it and they don't. Seriously, I left him at One Alicia Combo from death for like 4 turns. And he used them to do jack and all. Think I saw Aiming Wisp once.

Anyway, gonna plow through the rest of the game sometime this week I think.

Wait, bosses with limits use things besides their SCs when at low HP?  Huh, weird.  A bit surprised he didn't use Heal either.

Though, yeah, sounds like you fought an AI neutered Ull.
