*Spoilers*

I guess that makes sense, but I was confused as to what actually was implied, given what they said about giving up their demonic powers "to live as humans". Also, I guess I was thinking someone would notice that he was as such. They sure talk about it enough.

Well, apparently the test for 'demonhood' is: "Pointy Ears?" "Check." "Yep, he's a demon."

Adell's ears are all the wrong shape. It's understandable that they'd be confused.

Jiptus Edge is slow which is shit for random.  Plua also was better for weapon availability IIRC.

Pokemon Leaf Green: Started a new file with Squirtle!

Caught 6 Pokemon, Pal Parked Squirtle + 5 random ones to Diamond...

Then started ANOTHER Leaf Green file, this time with Bulbasaur.

Actually going to playthrough this file, mind; figured if I ever replay LG after this, its going to be a while later, so I might as well get Squirtle done with now.  Only it and Eevee are the real Split Pathes.

Though, on hindsight, I am hoping I actually did get Omanyte/Kabuto palparked; that'd cause me to have a bit of a head desk moment <_<;

FF7: Middle of Shinra Tower! Yes, I think this qualifies as my SLOWEST FF7 PLAYTHROUGH EVER.

FFX: Beat Chocobo Eater. Tidus is two levels away from Steal and Use, and Yuna is going to beat Lulu to the -ara spells.

Mana Khemia:

This game continues to enthrall me, and it probably will until I finish it.

I'm in chapter 10 now, and after the C9 endboss, I have a feeling the game is about to get a few shades more difficult, which I like. The boss of that chapter pulled some incredibly unexpected tricks that turn a strategy that has always been efficient in the past (the placing of timed cards for your benefit) into a virtual invitation to suicide if you aren't careful. Perfectly beatable, but surprising and enjoyable as a fight. I have nearly all of the abilities for the PCs now, so all that is left in my Grow Books are stat gains (admittedly a good deal of those).

The game's plot is uninspired and, for the most part, non-existent. This is acceptable however because most of the conflict and drama is contained within the character quests, which range from the amusing to the hilarious. Nonetheless, there is nothing special about it at all. Typical anime-styled comedy and hijinks, with a decisive lack of fanservice elements. After the horrible direction that took in AI3, I'm certainly glad for the dearth of it.

The technical aspects of the game do not impress me. The sprites are of the same quality as AI3, which is decent enough but by no means detailed enough to satisfy me after playing Odin Sphere. The still shots of characters similarly fail to impress after seeing it done in far superior fashion in Grim Grimoire. This isn't to say its not a pretty game, but simply that the aesthetics can't sell it. Some of the map's backgrounds are pleasant enough, and the designs for the actual levels occasionally show some imaginative flare, but for the most part it is uninspired dungeon trekking. This is made worse by fairly regular slowdown, which makes little sense considering the game isn't exactly pushing any huge limits. Between this and Odin Sphere however, I'm beginning to think the PS2 may have issues dealing with sprite-based games of a certain quality.

The gameplay has more than made up for these deficiencies, however. Between night raids and the most recent boss fight, this is definitely the most challenging Gust game I have played (and a decently challenging one by RPG standards in general). It may be a bit of a challenge playthrough because I am fighting bosses at night whenever possible now, but that doesn't really detract from the fun. I am not limiting my characters in any way, I'm just giving them better enemies to fight. With a plethora of abilities and strategies to employ, the combat and twinking has been loads of fun. Boss immunes non-elemental magic? Bring in Pamela and nullify that trait, just make sure you can work in the huge HP cost of using that move. In danger of being killed by randoms? Take a chance and try to ID them with Anna's Shadow Chase, but make sure to do your best to bump them around a little beforehand since the ID odds are based off of CHP/MHP. And the support system remains the most fluid and downright FUN system for backrow-frontrow combat I have ever seen in an RPG. I sincerely hope the game can keep the challenge up until the credits roll.

Mana Khemia is shaping up to be a good game. The atmosphere is unique, the gameplay is fun, the characters are quirky and enjoyable, and the plot is... not eye-gougingly bad, which is enough to allow the good points to take center stage.

*Spoilers*

I guess that makes sense, but I was confused as to what actually was implied, given what they said about giving up their demonic powers "to live as humans". Also, I guess I was thinking someone would notice that he was as such. They sure talk about it enough.

The fact that the writers trusted the audience to put two and two together without beating them over the head with a big revelation scene is one of the things I liked about Disgaea 2, personally. Anyway, back to AT.

---

AT: Bishop Falss has an ulterior motive? No! What, with him having a portentous name, being a religious leader in a JRPG, and having a character sprite that totally looks like it has a skull for a face, I really did not see this one coming.

Anyway, most of today was spent being shoved around from one previously visited location to another, often getting called away by the plot before actually doing anything there. There was also a lot of pointless travel time that could've been avoided--sometimes they'd be nice and warp you somewhere, and then sometimes they'd tell you to go climb up the Silvaplate again for no real reason (you could warp there previously) or take an overly long route through Crescent just because your NPC guide isn't with you this time. A lot of these places didn't have new enemies, either, so it was just a slog until the designers finally decided to direct you to something novel (Prism Garden--which is still on the horizon, at the time of this writing, as I'm repairing the airship which is apparently the only one of its kind in the world, but it's intriguing at least because I've been curious about what's at either extreme of the tower). So yeah, not the most entertaining session I've had with the game so far. Hit the twenty hour mark just before stopping.

At least Misha grew up. Of course, this was surrounded by plenty of angst over whether or not Lyner would still treat her the same way if she actually looked like an adult. He does, naturally: he remains totally oblivious to her personal feelings specifically and to the existence of human sexuality in general. Le sigh. At least I can switch her into alternate costumes now to pad out the accompanying conversations (does it require a certain amount of fights using those to trigger the question at the inn, or what?)

---

Also, AI2 showed up (thanks Super/Dune). Will probably tackle DQ8 before touching that, since it's unlikely I'll want to play two Gust games in a row. This makes the backlog look something like this: AT > DQ8 > AI2 > Ico > MK > Okami > LoM > Growlanser 5 (can't get motivated to play this at all for some reason, despite thoroughly enjoying GL2/3). Also got a couple unfinished replays sitting around (MGS, G2, Blue's quest in SF), and I still haven't touched Arcana Heart (got here yesterday). Blah. So yeah, I don't need any other games for a damn long time.

Moemon Kichiku (Japanese FR): I tried taking on Brock today. I failed horribly. Why?

He now has 6 Pokemon, two of which I have found out, Aerodactyl L18 and Rhyhorn L15.

His Rhyhorn has EQ, and his Aerodactyl can eliminate my Mankey with Wing Attack.

What's worse, it is insanely hard to level up, except in Viridian Forest where people get lost for 4 hours. Since there is a L13 Caterpie and L16 Kakuna as random encounters <3

I plan to grind til I reach an average level of 20~ish

If a costume has a conversation attached to it, it'll unlock after fighting enough battles.  I think it's ten or so, might be more.  Some costumes (I don't remember which ones) have more than one conversation attached to them as well.

Inn conversations can be triggered by all kinds of things.  Also objection to Lyner having no concept fo human sexuality.  He isn't Justin.  What he is actually is an emotionally abusive non-commital harem focus like you have as the star of hentai games.

Well, so much for FFX International. No matter what I do, the game will not load the Operation Mi'hen FMVs - I beat Sinspawn Gui and the game just sits there. Not actually frozen, the characters keep looping their idle animations and the music plays, but nothing happens. Tried reburning the ISO twice, no go. Maybe I'll buy it if I find a cheap used copy online?

TotA: STARTED!!!

Anyway, just got shoved onto the Tartarus.

Since its early in the game, I won't say anything.  Also, as usual, I am doing the whole "please don't tell me shit about the game unless I specifically ask" thing, since I find this most enjoyable.

Moemon Kichiku (Japanese FR): Wow, so much things done in just one day. I defeated Misty by training up Meggy the Magnemite into a powerful Magneton, assisting her Kettl the Tangela. I skipped Lt. Surge for a while and travelled to Rock Tunnel, nearly getting lost. I made it through and went on to screw around and gain access to Saffron so I could go beat Lt. Surge anytime. Caught a Cubone and trained her up to a Marowak. Similarly, I caught a Jynx and I am still using her as a staple. I travelled to Fuschia (note I still have only 2 badges at this point) and found a wild L52 Aerodactyl. I caught her and taught her Fly. Also taught her Strength. I used her in order to defeat Erika and swept her entire team using only Fly. However, I swapped her out and entered in one of my longest lasting members of the force, a Rapidash called Glue (courtesy of VSM). I used merely Ember and defeated her last Pokemon. Badge get. After that I did the Pokeflute business and caught a Snorlax. I went to defeat Lt. Surge using my mighty Marowak's Bonemerang and swept him down.

I investigated Silph Co. and defeated my higher-levelled Rival through sole use of strategy (Kynxy the Jynx and Meggy the Magneton didn't make it though). Here I am now training a Seel affectionately called Ciato and focusing on evolving her to a beautiful Dewgong as CK and Final asked me to on the Chat.

Uh, just message me on the chat if you want to be represented as a Moemon. I might make an RPGDL team, even. As nonsensical as that sounds.

This is Ciato. Say hi!

JP version. I'd take either one assuming there's a way to get it working on an NTSC system; it's not like I was so far in that I can't restart.

Brig - Beat Esgares with Iscalio. Iria = teh Love. Dryst is still continuously amusing storywise. Brig story is still unimportant, yet surprisingly serviceable given the nature of the game.

Haven't touched Cai's campaign yet. However, I went and downloaded Brig GE, so I'll probably start playing that soon. I want to find a way to rip the FMVs from the Brig GE, for they are pretty and voice acting makes the important characters seem cooler (or at least like they have a semblance of personality). If anyone knows an easy place to just download these, that would be simpler.

Wild Arms 4 - I actually kind of like Gawn, he's amusing enough. Lambda is disturbingly predictable. Or perhaps he just acts like the kind of villain that I would act like if I had super powers and an army to follow me?

Kresnik disappoints at every turn.

Gameplaywise, still full of wonderful platforming and puzzles.

The 'theme' of becoming an adult is getting tiresome, but overall, it's a nice variation on a common theme.

The program PSXMC can rip the movies from the game ISOs. I have them sitting on my HD as well, so contact me on IRC or AIM or something if you want me to rar em up and send to you.

Games.

Grandia: Could be entertaining if the growth system was balanced at all and the enemies were harder. Beaten, rating will be given when I'm unlazy. 4 or something.

Tales of Phantasia: Is atrocious. 18 battles in 3 screens encounter systems do not work that way. Also would it have killed the developers to have one decent anti-air move in?

AT: Misha and Aurica cosmospheres finished. Blah, cut-and-pasted dialogue. Anyway, stomped Shadow Mir, and watched...fake ending #2? This time complete with end credits? Whuhzuh? That was weird. Would the game genuinely have ended there if I'd chosen the first option afterwards? I didn't, of course, because it makes no sense to end the game in that fashion. Now moving on with phase 3. Falss journal entries are moderately effective at making him out to be a total dick. Just got Shurelia; guess it's time to go cosmosphere diving again.

Because this is relevant to my interests, I have to ask : what version of ToP are you playing? If you're playing the GBA version, I strongly suggest you stop now and switch a superior version (see: any other version, even if you play it untranslated.) SNES ver is still packed full of random encounters, but the DeJap translation is relatively funny if highly inaccurate. The PSX ver has been fan-translated recently and is far-and-above the best version of the game you'll find in English. There's not nearly as many randoms to deal with, for one thing. If you're a fan of not knowing what's going on in a Tales game (pretty common trait around here), the PSP version is fun and fast.

Based off the encounter rate I would guess the SNES version.  Based off of the anti-air comment I would guess SNES version.

Holy Bottles are your friend.  Walk right up close to flyers and mash up and attack, it is the best air attack you will have probably.
