P3: Surt Got. Lots of other ID/element/physical walling Personas got. Plot... I don't really care, as the game is more about building the relationships between the various characters. Spoilers would have hit harder had it been someone else, I think.

The game is still a lot of fun. Leagues ahead of P2 in that regard for me.

P3: The final boss is a retarded design. 10 Completely Pointless Forms, Followed by a Stalling Tactic that can never work against my party, followed by one really cheap move that I don't really have any defense against! Unfortunately, Night Queen hit 2 of my PCs on Charm...one of them being the Hero. And so I died. Ugh, such stupid design. Also, to rub it in my face...I think if I did like 3 more damage, I would have killed it. It had that little HP left.
...into the nightfall.

Dragon Quest VIII - Got teh Angelo. Getting quite into the game now. Jess is usually my on screen character of choice though I have to switch her Yangus in dungeons she keeps dying in. Pity about her default outfit lowering defence too :(

Fuse some Lovers weapons to avoid the Charm, or better yet, fuse an Abaddon that carries an item. Grind out the item to get a status blocking accessory.

Persona 3 FES - Finished the first door!  The boss was easy.  Also, the equipment here costs way too much!

FF3 - Lost to the final boss again. Particle Beam + physical killed Black Belt (whom I had intended to throw Elixirs in a pinch), went after Sage. Particle Beam + physical then went before Sage, and all I'd done healing-wise was Phoenix Down. Oops. Guess I needed to use Elixirs more there or... something. Not sure it would have saved me. Not really sure what to do about this with my current party. (Wussing out and making a Devout would work naturally.)

Have I mentioned recently Black Belt sucks? Wooo that extra 300 HP sure does a lot of good when it can't even protect it from the final's doubleact, and the damage is just sad.

Mega Man~ - Replayed... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, X1, and X4. So the ones worth playing for the most part (no access to X8). They rule, naturally. No real new notes on them, except to say that Bright Man's weapon is hax and I was underrating it, and that Gyro/Napalm are the best weapons in 5. Fire/Elec/Metal/Wood/Tengu/Grenade/Astro/Eagle/Octopus weapons remain ridiculous.

Hey Elf, I know you're not into RPGs right now (or I'd force P3 on you), but would you be interested in MMX7 and MMX8?

Yeah, definitely, I'm particularly interested in X8. You can wait until Con to save yourself the shipping fees, since that's just two months away now anyway.

Sadly, I think that the Arcana weapon thing is FES? I'm playing regular old P3. My issue isn't even beating the boss (Seriously, not dangerous until the very, very end), it's that they put a stupid quirk after making you wail on 10 scrubby forms. If you lose, it's too boringly drawn out, especially with Moonless Gown.

Yeah, yeah.  Complain about it when you're doing it for the fourth time because of Berserk(rapes your defense), Charm, Berserk that I should have won except Aigis healed Mitsuru instead of Minato(I almost certainly would have won had Minato gotten one more double attack), and finally finishing.  I almost didn't bother ending the game. <_<

Also, yes, the weapon fusing is FES only, apparently.  There's virtually no status resistance in original P3.

If you're into forcing P3 on people, I'm right here!  I'd even play the lame regular version!  I need an RPG for my PS2 because I finished FM4 a while ago.

Beat the original Diablo the other day with a rogue.  As a singleplayer game, I found it a lot more fun than D2 despite the absence of, say, the ability to run, or a way to highlight stuff on the ground, or lots of other conveniences D2 implemented.  Game has some wickedly brutal atmosphere, the voice acting is pro (more games need to realize how awesome good voice acting is), Tristram in general is just sweet, ominous ending.  Not that they didn't try to keep up the trend of mean endings (D2: Whoops, we forgot about Baal, now he's going to destroy the world.  D2LoD: Whoops, Tyrael was evil all along and our efforts to save the Worldstone were completely futile.) but I think the original is more effective here because you don't have any real idea of what's going on at the big-picture level.  Kind of similar to the shift from Alien to Aliens, if that analogy makes any sense to you.  And it should.  Go watch them.

Psychosomnium: Awesome.

Yeah, the weapon fusions are FES only.

Abaddon still should have the potential to carry the Tome of the Void in vanilla P3, though, and total status immunity on all characters is pretty handy for that fight.

Nobody gets the right to complain about the final boss until they have a charmed member use Diarahan on it. Not that I ever had that problem, thanks to Helel.

You can get a item that blocks charm by fusing a Narcissus, apparently. It only shows up occasionally, though. At least it's really low level so you should be able to get it with only a few randoms.
Don't think of it as a novel. Think of it as a chance to retroactively win every argument you have ever walked away from.

Can I still complain about the final boss because charmed Akihiko fully healed it, even though MC was 2HKOing its forms with Morning Star?

SRW@3 - So, like three stages ago, Asuka got a 5400 base, 110 Will, 40 EN 1-4 P ALL. And Asuka has Focused Attack (raises ALL damage when it unfocuses) and Soul. And she has 50% EN Regen per turn. Um. Yeah.

The Evas are so retardedly broken.

My roommate finally got to the end of it a week ago.  Fought the last boss.  Had his party full-heal the final three times before he killed it.  First time, Night Queen charmed Akihiko, and he healed her when she was nearly dead.  Same thing happened next with Ken, aroudn the same time.  Then Minato got charmed with Melchizedek on...and full-healed the final again.  He thankfully stockpiled Somas, so just said "fuck it" and Armageddon'd her ass.

But yeah, go Narcissus, unless you really want to put amps/boosts or elemental resistance on a character.  Abaddon is a better idea overall, though - don't know if your Devil is maxed or not, but make him, get him to like, one battle before his final level where he'd learn his last skill (assuming he has a heart), register, level, delete, repeat until you have full status-immunity for the group.  Fun stuff.

Played the demo of On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness (the Penny Arcade PCRPG). It's pretty fun. Good writing, about what you'd expect from them in terms of humor and style ("The smell of baking muffins tantalizes the shit out of you."). The narrator in particular is hard to sum up but very amusing.

Combat is...well, for the three of you who will get what I mean, I can say it's Panzer Dragoon Saga with party members and timed hits. ATB, each character gets three action bars that fill up in sequence. Using an item takes one bar, a physical attack takes two, and a special attack takes three. Special attacks use various forms of timed hits or reflex challenges, and you can do a timed block whenever an enemy attacks you to reduce the damage or, with perfect timing, evade and counter. So...with three characters plus a support unit to keep track of all that for, information overload is a serious concern.

Same as Otter except I will say this.

The game was pretty alright, not quite as good as Sam and Max episodes, but not bad.  Sam and Max is better value for money, but it looks like they will both be using the same concept of digital delivery system which is something I approve of.
