FF Fighter that is Nomura ARPG in disguise-
Onion Knight is so ridiculously wrong that I am lacking word to describe it now. I never thought Puchi Meteor would be this broken at first. His physicals work just like Sephy, very quick, but lags if missed, and also has less attack radius compare to Sephy. But since he can combo into HP attack with his brave attack, his physicals actually end up a lot better. But still, kinda dangerous due to those lag, so I primarily use them when I am countering. On magic, he isn't a full mage, so he lacks those range ignoring snipers or those huge AOE spell. But Thunder and Puchi Meteor chase after the enemy soooooo well. In the maximum difficulty, where computer just cheats, Puchi Meteor still manage to have decent accuracy, which says a lot. Thunder also has decent range, and most importantly, it is a an non counterable projectile, and it can connect into HP damage with Flare, joy.
And my sweet Kuja, how do I put it.... pretty hard to use. Except a few moves, all of his Brave attacks are all identical, except the starting hit, which would be various form of Flare or Holy that aims at different range. And base on the range between the enemy he'll perform four types of follow ups. 1. A series of Holy that blows enemy upward in clsoe range and follows by a Chase sequence. 2. A series of Holy striking enemy afar in a circle. 3. Press into melee with an orb of Flare. 4. Knocking enemies upside down from afar with multiple Flare.
Now, the problem is that.... the starter with long range all attracts enemy into melee range, so it is hard to get have a ranged starter connect into ranged follow up. And Kuja does not like enemy in melee range, as his moves are all slow to initiate. So I end up using Snatch Shot the most, which is a starter with long range chase Flare, since it just hits that far, the enemy wouldn't be attracted close enough and trigger 4., but takes some skill to pull it off. But then, since Kuja's Brave attacks can't chain into Hp attacks, and his Brave attacks aren't that reliable, I often just skip right into using his HP attacks.
Hp damage is where Kuja got better. Flare Star is GOOOOD. Despite being a melee move, Flare Star is insanely good. It creates a field of Flare, it has a huge hit box, high priority on top of being very fast, and the most evil part, it grants you a brief movement of free aerial movement that allows you to press the attack onto the enemy however you want.
Outside Flare, he also has Ultima, the typical range ignoring spells that let's not being completly hopeless in front of super fast fighter like Sephy and Tidus... just he learns it so terribly late. Hm? Holy Star? What Holy Star?
