Halflife 2 Episode 2:  Beat.  Better than Ep 1, worse than HL2 proper.  Last section with the hunters and striders was annoying.  First game in the HL2 anthology that didn't crash every 20 seconds.  Hooray.

Wait wait wait. You like drunken Virginia?

I meant the game as a whole, really.

An amusing and unexpected scenario. Anyways.

Chrono Trigger - Smashed through Tyrano's Lair. Nizbel II was meh, Azala and Black Tyrano took a while but wasn't hard or anything. No real plot just going through a dungeon and seeing a firey reptilian hedgehog falling from the sky. Anyways, next stop... uh... Lavos I guess. Probably to just die horribly or something.

DMC3: Just got the Nevan, and did the chapter right after!  Nice to be able to play the game without worries about it freezing up and such.

MMPU: Beat EASY MODE! Fear!  They really did tone down difficulty a lot so it really is an easy mode.  Random Platforms over spikes to make some platforming areas completely lol instead of challenging, bosses toned down in variety of ways (Example? Yellow Devil doesn't have his usual quirk, instead just opens and closes his eye...yeah, I'll let you figure out how much easier that fight is)...

...seems like I can't unlock Megaman S, that, or I need to play the game as Mega Man and not Mega Man C <_<;  No, I don't know why I care about Mega Man S when I have Mega Man C already.

Also played a bit as the robot masters.  Cutman is kind of meh though wall jumping is fun.  Gutsman is...weird; UNLIMITED SUPER ARM WHENEVER YOU WANT!  Seems mostly fun for the whole "Can make lots of platforms thus getting past spike traps like its nothing".  Elecman...kind of sucks.  Thunder Beam is basically just a stronger, slower, cannot be fired more than one at a time version of the Mega Buster.  Yeah, has the vertical shots thing, but the downwards way only kicks in if you jump, and its awkward to aim it...plus doesn't piercing walls.  Yeah, disappointing.  Bombman...well, Hyper Bomb explodes on impact, naturally, so he's not a total lost cause.  He can also aim his bombs to change the angle at which he throws them, which has some uses, though a bit awkward to get use to since its still hyper bomb.  Oh, he can fire multiple hyper bombs as well, which helps some.
Iceman is fun and good though.  Take Ice Slasher, now let him spam it at about the rate you can spam the Mega Buster.  Now,  the frozen enemy aspect? Instead of it just being "Freeze in place" its "Freeze in place AND the enemy is now a temporary platform!" at the same time.  Which is to say, a frozen enemy is now COMPLETELY harmless and somewhat beneficial.  Lastly, they do actual damage...well, ok, that's a given since how else is Iceman going to kill things, but yeah.  Well done transition of Boss -> PC, Ciato should be pleased (where as Elecman was...yeah, sorry about that Elfboy <_<; )

Fireman, though, is absolutely nuts.  Take Firestorm, now make it spammable like they did with Ice Slasher.  Now, Firestorm's projectile is replaced with the BOSS version of the attack.  Yes, that means we get a shot that's about roughly the size of Fireman, that can be fired pretty fast, AND creates a barrier.  I think you can see just how crazy this is...and remember, UNLIMITED AMMO too.  For those who don't know, MMPU Firestorm was nerfed in that it had its ammo cut down significantly, so spamming it didn't really work (though it was still a fine weapon, unlike Thunderbeam which just became insultingly unusable in some areas.)

Didn't check Oil and Time Man, but I don't think anyone cares about those two; they're new and such!

Soul Nomad: Picked up Lujei. She is totally, batshit insane. Naturally, I approve. The actual fight was pathetic as expected, given the low double-digit levels of the enemies. However, she herself could actually deal damage to my main's party! Impressive, for someone a quarter of his level. And now it is time to level her and the other plot characters up to meet the rest of the army. I guess I should toss 'em all into a Loki's Fortune for that, though that'd make for one mishmash of a squad. Curiously, Galahad came in at level 26 when I got him again. He was much higher than that by the end of the Evil path. I guess when I started the normal path again it set his level to whatever it was at the end of the normal path the first time through? Because 26 sounds right for that.

Oh yes, Lujei attacks people by summoning Grim Grimoire Imps. Score. At least, that's her middle-row attack. I haven't checked out the others yet. Has the connection between her and Endorph been explained in other N1 games or something? I'd thought she appeared in GG first, but she tosses out references to things left and right.

Walnut got blow into the outer dimension in the end of Phantom Brave with Sulphur. Lujie passed by, she dumped Walnut into where the mermaids are, because only Aleximea is able to save him. While Sulphur... Lujie sent it right back to Ivoire, hence the lv.2000 Sulphur fight in the Phantom Brave aftergame.
As for Lujie, her front row is demon and the the back row is the black cat.

Soul Nomad: Lujei is the destroyer of worlds. Her back-row attack (SUMMON GRIMALKIN. Badass) demolishes entire enemy parties. I am abusing this, as well as a Loki's Fortune in conjunction with that decor that boosts EXP but disables movement, to bring the plot PCs up to the main's level. From the mid-twenties to the mid-eighties in about an hour and a half. Score.

WA3 - Beaten! That was a thoroughly enjoyable romp. Nega Filgaia was absurdly gimmicky, and Beatrice was okay. Could've been ugly if half my party didn't have Sleep immunity. But, anyhow, what I care about is talking about how it ended. The ending... wow. CK told me it's actually a reference to some western. But the "whee, we saved the day oh crap we're wanted" device is so rarely used in RPGs that it got me by the leg. And it was pulled off okay, too. I like being surprised, and the game delivered in that point.

Now, for overall thoughts?

The game was amazing. I came with admittedly high expectations, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere and setting consistency are amazing, and they make the game aesthetically great. Music, graphics usage (the game itself doesn't have great graphics, but they set everything to its fullest), it's just incredible how they create a highly immersive wild west wasteland setting. This alone would make the game above average to me.

However, the game also gives a great battle system. I like customization systems, and it's even better if they manage to keep the cast distinctive and unique. WA3 did this perfectly. Base stats and Force abilities play a huge part on how effective your setups are, and taking advantage of this leads to maximum effectiveness. As such, Jet will never be nearly as good a mage as Gallows, say, nor will Virginia hit nearly as hard as Clive outside of Valiant Gatling setups. The PS system was also cool. Customization and exploration of distinctive character traits walk hand-in-hand, and that's simply awesome. Plus, every setup is flexible to the point you can switch them around whenever you fancy - literally. If I need a fast Devastate in a particular turn, or Extension Permanence in another, no fear. Just change the mediums before a turn begins. Being able to control battle flow like that is great. And the boss battles were pretty fun, too. I enjoy gimmick/trick fights, and WA3 had them in gallons while making them creative. Just tons of fun.

Now, for plot and characters? It was the part I expected to enjoy the least, but ended up being among my favorite things in the game. The characters were well-written enough to make me care for them one way or another, and the game did a great job of keeping plotholes to a minimum. The wing metaphors were painful, of course, and there was a fair amount of cheese, but the interactions and characters were overall really likable and memorable. Virginia's growth from an obnoxious naive lass into a strong-willed leader and defender was great, and I respect her a lot for that. Gallows is one of the most likable lazy dumb blokes I've ever seen (and surprisingly badass when the right buttons are hit). Clive works very well as the voice of reason, alongside being a generally cool individual. Only Jet really needs a kick in the ass, but he could be far worse. The villains were effective in what they're supposed to do, sans Janus, and Beatrice's Xanatos Gambit is just galling. Plus, I love how freaky she was. The Schroedingers were awesomely entertaining foils, and suitably badass when push came to shove. It's a cast I generally like a lot, even though the Prophets pathetically fail, Janus can go die in a ditch like he did in-game and Werner feels like an uncomfortable Deus Ex Machina. Fortunately, the game never really crumbles under its writing, which is all I ask.

The gameplay length, however, suffers a bit. There's so much going on that the game ends up intimidatingly long - excessive amounts of dungeons and map travelling, which hurts its replay value. It's kinda like Suikoden 3 in that sense, but it's hurt by menial navigation and unnecessary extra systems, like the sandcraft and Lombardia battles. They're not implemented poorly, but feel pointless. It makes an already long game even longer, which could be rethought. This is mitigated a bit by the fact I liked WA3's dungeon crawling. WA puzzles aren't usually that interesting, but I had a lot of fun with WA3 puzzles, partly because none of them were retardedly obtuse, unlike in WA1 and 2. Still, there could be some trimming.

But doesn't change the fact the game ended up standing tall to the gigantic expectations I set for it. Amazing game, 9/10 material. Definitely set up a standard for a series that started off on the wrong foot.

Suikoden Tactics-Started this. only did the first couple battles before quitting. Standard SRPG so far. I dunno how it's gonna turn out, but at least it's a Suikoden game so I know it's not going to be a eye-gouging hatefest like Odin Sphere.

It's pretty short too, right?
Don't think of it as a novel. Think of it as a chance to retroactively win every argument you have ever walked away from.

FFXII: Golmore Jungle. I will give the game at least .1/10 for using the line "I got a good feeling.". Besides that, it is still unknown exactly why Vaan and Penelo exist; Penelo especially. Gooo mass pointlessness. On the other hand, the gameplay is still amusing me at least slightly, so I'll probably end up beating it eventually or something.

SH - Just beat Li Li, which was a fine showcase of how badly SH enemies fail. She paralyzed both Yuri and Margarete for the entire fight, which meant I was mostly soloing with Alice. Soloing with Alice was not difficult. As for the rest of the game? Man, it shows it was an early PS2 era game. Also shows that the writers were loaded on hormones and Ritalin - every character so far has been either a valley girl or a childish ruffian, sometimes being both. You'd expect an international spy to not giggle like an idiot for every little thing, for starters.

Within a Deep Forest: Fun, though having to use the glass ball ever is annoying. Just got the red ball. Using it to get past the orange critter down the pit was obvious since that's pretty much the only unexplored area, buuuuut dunno what to do in the underwater area. I can get into the laser room with the blue, pink and red balls (anything else falls too fast and gets machinegunned). I presume the lasers only stay on for a limited amount of time and you need to be in the air until they shut off, but none of those three jump high enough for that.

Summon Night: I dunno. Cute game, but eh. Not sure if I'll finish it (semifinals against Sanary). May try out SN2, I dunno. The game  is... repetitive. Very much so. In a decently interesting way, but still repetitive. Also, what the hell, give me some water materials you goddamn game. Also don't lock down Mystic Ores so heavily, those are the one thing making the game interesting and you're forcing me to grind for them? Blah.

Anything else: I have butterfly attention span.

Ys VI: I'd likely be playing this, but apparently Chinese pirates kept Starforce on it or something? I don't know. I'm leery of letting it install as a result.

SRTOG1/2: Also have Chinese versions of this. I will be replaying the games now, just to practice reading zany Chinese. >_> Is there an English script of the games out there somewhere?

Soul Nomad: Started. I like some of the Gig stuff, but the gameplay is turning me off right now. I'm not sure how to experiment and it seems pretty painful with the whole rando-room thing. If I want to set up a new squad to test it out, I'd have to raise them from scratch, which is an unappealing concept. Squad design is neat, but it feels like they gave you just enough possibilities and not enough freedom in design to make it frustrating. I'll play more later and see how I feel.

Within a Deep Forest: Finished. Nifty little diversion. The music is particularly hypeworthy. What's different on hard mode?

And...randomly wandered into Gamestop when out to get groceries today. Went in looking for Okami, but they didn't have it so I got DMC3 instead. It looked like too much fun when Meep was playing it, yeah.

Pyro: Eh? You know you can buy new units at advanced levels, right? You can make 'em as high as the main's level, I believe. More expensive, but money usually isn't much of a problem.
