2008 NFL season: Yearning to go 8-8.
« on: April 16, 2008, 06:38:12 PM »
So yeah, I had a reason to post in the 2007 NFL topic, but I thought: 'Waitaminute, it's not the 2007 NFL season anymore!' Anyway, schedules came out yesterday. The Redskins have the dubious honor of playing on opening day Thursday against the Giants. It'll be the new head coach's first game, so Zorn will immediately be under the spotlight. The rest of the schedule is a bit rough, though I'm not banking much on next season anyway. With a new head coach and the embers of a few failed teams smoldering, this smacks of an 8-8 rebuilding year. If you discount the bullshit run the 'skins made at the end of last season to reach the playoffs, the team simply sucked.

Oh, and guess who has one of the easiest schedules? C'mon, just guess.

Also, draft's coming up at the end of the month.  I haven't really followed much, though we certainly have holes to fill.

Aaron Rodgers will be Steve Young. I'm calling it now. I have no proof, but I choose to believe it.

Steve McNair's gone. Probably a good time for it, he wasn't exactly primed for a resurgence with Baltimore and he had to be feeling the injuries. Now if somebody can just convince Trent Green to hang it up before he suffers permanent brain damage...

You and the rest of Green Bay. Or maybe not, Favre's hinted that he'd come back if A-Rod gets hurt during the season. I hope he has bodyguards.

Trent Green resigned with the Rams as the main backup. I hope he doesn't see the field this season or ever again, but.. Bulger's injury prone and so is the Rams offensive line. That could be bad.

Redskins were quite possibly the worst playoff team in NFL history.  (Compared to the other teams that year I mean.  Obviously any team now would crush any team from the 60s.)  Seahawks pretty much got a third bye in the NFC playoffs.

Anywho, Niners still suck, Smith still sucks, my choice in non-basketball teams to like still sucks.  At least I can maybe hype Johnsonless Browns if they get something halfway decent for him?

Do you think Brett would really come back midseason? Really? Oh, and yeah, the 'skins were exactly as you say, Chapin.

If the team was good besides for QB and the team asked him? He may well. Is it a good thing? That I'm leaning no on, but I hope we don't find out.

Speaking of which, that Jared Allen trade makes me a bit nervous. If it works out like it -should-, the Vikings are going to have a very scary defense this year.

So we know who the Dolphins are taking at #1. An Offensive Lineman.

Okay?

Cowboyssssssssssssssssssssssssss.

I'm still ticked about them losing to the Giants. >_>

Here's hoping for another kickass season for them, though I haven't been paying attention to anything right now with them so I dunno if anything good/bad has happened to them.

Calling it right now.

Reggie Bush wins MVP
49ers get a first round bye in playoffs
Patriots go 8-8, make the playoffs, and win the Superbowl
Alex Smith has a QB rating over 100
Tom Brady turns out to be the father of Jessica Alba's baby
Chad Johnson gets along with his teammates.

These will all happen.

Just yesterday two important things happened.

1. The NFL Owners opted out of the current agreement with the NFLPA. Meaning in the close future we may have a season with no salary caps. In short, we may see the richer franchises bulk up while the weaker ones just watch and moan in displeasure. Good thing is, it won't start to affect us until the next few years. Although there is some time bought with this...its not much.

2. The Super Bowl in 2012 has been announced that it will be in Indianapolis. And while I'm excited about it. People will complain for the fact that its placed in a Cold Weather City. Thing is, Indianapolis is a much better choice than what Detroit ever was. And it should benefit the economy here for the few years up to it.

Thing is, we have the Indy 500 and the Brickyard 400 here every year and that brings alot of people as well. Plus they usually are a site in the NCAA Tournament. Especially the Final 4.

Bumping this up for the start of NFL training camps. The 'skins are in midseason form, with two season ending injuries and a panicked trade on the first day of camp. JAWSOME!

Wait, you mean something happened that wasn't Brett Favre related? Why didn't I hear about this?

No motherfucking comment to anything Brett Favre related at the moment.

And yeah, Jeremy Shockey was traded to the Saints today. A lot of offseason trades for notable players. Mmm, fun.

Favre to the Jets is official.

From what I can tell, it's for a fourth rounder that will turn into a second rounder depending on performance.

So either Favre retires this year when the Jets don't surprise anyone by not making it past Cheaty McCheat and the Pats for the playoffs, or the Jets win the Super Bowl eight times in a row.

One of the two.

One of the two.

Maybe there is justice. Brett Farve will lead the Jets past the Patriots twice, which knocks them to 7-9 and thus missing the playoffs for a bona fide post Super Bowl slump.

Chicago's not doing anything this season, I think. The offensive line is toast, the QB's no good unless he has all day long to throw, and there's really no other good prospects. Then again, it's the NFC North, so they may end up being the best in the division! It's not like Favre's there to stop them now, anyway.

Meh.
Don't think of it as a novel. Think of it as a chance to retroactively win every argument you have ever walked away from.
