Here we are again! 2 pools down, many more to go, the Music Tournament of Doom rolls on towards the eventual showing of 256 competitiors! The rules are still simple.
1. Vote for the one you like best.
2. Have heard both songs!
That's right, you don't need to have played the game involved! Listen and vote!

Chrono Cross- People Seized with Life/Prisoners of Fate v Disgaea 2 - Elegy of the Tundra: Mm, both tracks are amazing. Lack of wallowing in despair and melancholy wins the tiebreak, though!
Xenosaga 1 - U-TIC System v Wild Arms ACF - Murdering Princess: Not so close. Bah to generic ominous orchestral pieces.
Final Fantasy 4: Battle with the Four Fiends v Phantasy Star II - Death Place: Just...not close.
Suikoden V: Rhapsody in Battle/Dancing Rhapsody v Final Fantasy X - Otherworld: Does the RARRRR rock thing better.

Fire Emblem 7 ~ Together, We Ride v Final Fantasy Tactics - Lucavi Battle theme: At...least it's catchy. Lucavi Battle Theme really isn't much.
Atelier Iris 1 - Deceitful Wings v Secret of Evermore: Greek Temple: Hm. This is pretty good. GUST battle songs mostly blend together.
Tales of Symphonia - Rest of the Heart v Phantasy Star Online Episode III – “Idola the Strange Fruits”: Very few things beat IDOLA and the ToS track certainly isn't one of them.

Eh. I can imagine Dancing Rhapsody working a lot better as a battle theme than Otherworld does, but it's definitely not exceptional stand-alone and Otherworld works well enough with the opening scene. Otherworld's annoying growly vocals work okay as a tiebreaker, I guess.

Xenosaga 1 - U-TIC System v Wild Arms ACF - Murdering Princess: Ugh. Why couldn't one of these draw something crappy?
Final Fantasy 4: Battle with the Four Fiends v Phantasy Star II - Death Place: Uh. Battle with the Four Fiends is the first song that made me want to listen to videogame outside of the actual game (way back in elementary school!). Death Place is PSII music. I mean, I'll listen to the specific track when I get home, but I played the game and...yeah. EDIT: Yeah, "good for PSII" still doesn't come close to beating "genuinely good."
Suikoden V: Rhapsody in Battle/Dancing Rhapsody v Final Fantasy X - Otherworld: Totally forgot this Suikoden V track existed. It's not bad once it acquires a melody, but still pretty unmemorable. Otherworld isn't something I objectively like, but it fits its moment in the game perfectly.

Fire Emblem 7 ~ Together, We Ride v Final Fantasy Tactics - Lucavi Battle theme: Actually a surprisingly good tune. Sound quality hurts it, but...Lucavi Battle is good for atmosphere but not something I'm really fond of as a song.
Atelier Iris 1 - Deceitful Wings v Secret of Evermore: Greek Temple: The Cid likes dramatic final battle tracks, as we know. This isn't really one of my favorites, but it's good enough here.

Suikoden V: Rhapsody in Battle/Dancing Rhapsody v Final Fantasy X - Otherworld - Awesome vocal. It's just so damn fitting.

Baten Kaitos - Survival from the Force v Metal Saga - Driving to New Fork - Survival from the Force is NOT a battle theme - it's the final dungeon theme of the game. It's also my favourite of that genre, and damn awesome outside of that.

Final Fantasy 4: Battle with the Four Fiends v Phantasy Star II - Death Place - Elemental battle music is one of my personal favorites.
Suikoden V: Rhapsody in Battle/Dancing Rhapsody v Final Fantasy X - Otherworld - God help me I'm voting Otherworld. I really disliked Otherworld at first, and I'm still not a fan of the genre, but I will grudgingly admit that it works. Meanwhile... not a fan of that SV boss theme. I dislike both out of game, so the one that works better in game wins.

Baten Kaitos - Survival from the Force v Metal Saga - Driving to New Fork - Oh. Like the Metal Saga song, but BK has a great soundtrack, and Survival from the Force is one of the better tracks.

I'm just going to remind people that, although I wouldn't know whether it's a legal form or not, there is a PS2 version of PS2 and I have put its version of Death Place up here for those interested. Personally I see the MD version winning this round anyway so no legal problems for me yet.

Chrono Cross- People Seized with Life/Prisoners of Fate v Disgaea 2 - Elegy of the Tundra - Neither of these are especially enticing melodies. People Seized is slightly better.
Xenosaga 1 - U-TIC System v Wild Arms ACF - Murdering Princess - U-TIC sounds like movie background music more than game BM. It doesn't really do anything for me either way. Murdering Princess is somewhat harsh in places and generally average on the whole, but it's easily winning here.
Final Fantasy 4: Battle with the Four Fiends v Phantasy Star II - Death Place - I'm having trouble seeing the appeal of Four Fiends. Death Place is an easy winner here.
Suikoden V: Rhapsody in Battle/Dancing Rhapsody v Final Fantasy X - Otherworld - Man, Otherworld is woeful. This tournament is not giving me a good impression of FFX music. Rhapsody is pretty nice and freneticish and takes the win.

Baten Kaitos - Survival from the Force v Metal Saga - Driving to New Fork - Both great. But I do like me some piano stylings.
Fire Emblem 7 ~ Together, We Ride v Final Fantasy Tactics - Lucavi Battle theme - Together has managed to not get old yet and I've heard it quite an amount. Meanwhile Lucavi spends basically the entire tune pretending to be building up to something and never actually goes anywhere. This is not a tough decision.
Atelier Iris 1 - Deceitful Wings v Secret of Evermore: Greek Temple - Wings is pretty cool. Greek is fine enough, but it's not really good or anything.
Tales of Symphonia - Rest of the Heart v Phantasy Star Online Episode III – “Idola the Strange Fruits” - Strange is good in some parts, but overall it's somewhat strange. Rest meanwhile is awesome peaceful music and more awesome church bells. Simple enough.

Xenosaga 1 - U-TIC System v Wild Arms ACF - Murdering Princess: If nothing else, Murdering Princess wins this based on "I remember it in game!" Xenosaga 1 music tends to lose points a lot for, you know, really horrible usage in game to the point where you say "wait, I don't remember that song..."
Final Fantasy 4: Battle with the Four Fiends v Phantasy Star II - Death Place: Worst part, Death Place is about as good as PS2 music gets. Four Fiends isn't bad, but there's definitely better in FF4, so...yeah...
Suikoden V: Rhapsody in Battle/Dancing Rhapsody v Final Fantasy X - Otherworld: Pretty clear cut to me. Otherworld is unique yet good, the Suiko 5 song is...pretty generic and takes a while to really get anywhere, and when it does, its nothing special.

Baten Kaitos - Survival from the Force v Metal Saga - Driving to New Fork: Both are decent, but liked the former more.

FFT has some good songs, but why are people nomming shit like this instead of the awesome stuff like Antipyretic (IN FAIRNESS! Lucavi Battle works in game, but its horrible alone.)
Flipside, Together We Ride is bad ass.

Xenosaga 1 - U-TIC System v Wild Arms ACF - Murdering Princess: GRAH. Both these songs would trample over pool 4 for me. ;_; Why must I vote against one? Princess is one of the only songs that has over 100 listens on my playlist, though, so I can't really vote against it in good conscience.
Final Fantasy 4: Battle with the Four Fiends v Phantasy Star II - Death Place: Slaughter.
Suikoden V: Rhapsody in Battle/Dancing Rhapsody v Final Fantasy X - Otherworld: See above. Otherworld is awesome and a delightful breath of fresh air in game OSTs. Rhapsody is a mess.

Both are slow, but Elegy of the Tundra just has a vaguely Japanese calm music vibe going for it, while Prisoners of Fate I find to be more emotive, and has the added benefit of capping a high point of CC.

Xenosaga 1 - U-TIC System v Wild Arms ACF - Murdering Princess
It suffers a bit from sounding a lot like a few other pieces from Wild ARMs (the title screen of 4 is the main one that comes to mind here) but it's just a much stronger piece after it hits its stride.

I don't think I can argue that Death Place is objectively better. But votes are subjective, and for whatever reason, I like Death Place more at the moment.

Huh, when did Suikoden V have rock? Surprisingly catchy too... Of course, nowhere near catchy enough.

Baten Kaitos - Survival from the Force v Metal Saga - Driving to New Fork
Not entirely sure what I think of it, but I do have a weakness for piano tracks. That, and the Baiten Katos stuff is just kinda bland.

Fire Emblem 7 ~ Together, We Ride v Final Fantasy Tactics - Lucavi Battle theme
Together, We Ride does its job, and is probably my favourite of the FE Recruit musics. It also gives me a happy feeling of immortality due to the caverns of Hyrule Temple. But the Lucavi Theme is just so much better at its job of being a dark/menacing/creepy music. Especially when you aren't jaded by a bazillion playthroughs where the entire game is pretty much reduced to a joke, difficulty wise.

Atelier Iris 1 - Deceitful Wings v Secret of Evermore: Greek Temple
Surprisingly good. I wasn't expecting much going into this one, but I wouldn't mind having to listen to Deceitful Wings again. Greek Temple? Great for curing insomnia I suppose, though it's beginning to get kinda annoying.

Tales of Symphonia - Rest of the Heart v Phantasy Star Online Episode III – “Idola the Strange Fruits”
Still listening to Idola, so I'm not sure what my final take on it will be. But... Rest of the Heart isn't much, and even the first half minute of Idola is enough to trounce it.

Edit: Listened to the remake of Death Place. Oddly, I find it worse than the original given it trades slightly higher quality in instruments/synth in exchange for getting rid of the sharp pacing that made the original so likable.

Final Fantasy 4: Battle with the Four Fiends v Phantasy Star II - Death Place - lol mismatch. I transscribed Battle with the Four Fiends way back in high school I liked it so much, so...yeah. Not a fan of the rendering on this version, though.
