Music Tournament of Doom Preliminaries Pool 4

Here we are again!  2 pools down, many more to go, the Music Tournament of Doom rolls on towards the eventual showing of 256 competitiors!  The rules are still simple.
1. Vote for the one you like best.
2. Have heard both songs!
That's right, you don't need to have played the game involved!  Listen and vote!

Thanks to the most esteemed Tonfa, Vice President of these great United States, we now how handy dandy Putfile links for every song here in the first post!  All love and sex and cookies are due to him!

Shadow Hearts: Covenant - The Fate  ~ Cluster Amaryllis v Soul Nomad: Requiem of Gemini: Not a fan of RoG's type of "epic". Fate's good stuff despite the weird bit at the end. EDIT: Listened to RoG again, it gets better as it goes on than I remembered but still loses here.
Secret of Mana ~ Angel's Fear/Fear of the Heavens v Final Fantasy VII - Aeris' Theme: Angel's Fear ain't bad, but outclassed here.
Grandia: Theme of Grandia v Dragon Quest 4r- Zenithian Castle: Probably like the only Grandia song I'd have win here, so good choice. >_>
Super Robot Wars (general) - Ace Attacker v Unlimited Saga – “BT Ultimate”: Mm. Generally better and more memorable.

Phantasy Star Universe - Mizuraki C.D. v Ar tonelico - EXEC_CHRONICLE_KEY/.: By far the strongest matchup of the pool, here. I have to go against my own nom, though~
Chrono Cross: Star-Stealing Girl v Tales of the Abyss: Crimson Pride: Easy enough.
Secret of Mana ~ Distant Thunder v Skies of Arcadia - Ixa'Taka: Eh, weak.
Final Fantasy IX - Eternal Harvest v Final Fantasy X - A Truth Revealed: Mrf. Not much of a fan of either.

Chrono Cross: Star-Stealing Girl v Tales of the Abyss: Crimson Pride- Crimson Pride is just about the only good song on on the TotA OST.Star Stealing Girl is unmemorable for me in spite of the Kid fandom.
Secret of Mana ~ Distant Thunder v Skies of Arcadia - Ixa'Taka- OH HELL NO. I VOTE AGAINST BOTH.
Final Fantasy IX - Eternal Harvest v Final Fantasy X - A Truth Revealed- FF9's OST just keeps on giving the free wins.

Eh, RoG doesn't do much for me. Cluster Amaryllis rules face.

I heart Angel's Fear.
Grandia: Theme of Grandia v Dragon Quest 4r- Zenithian Castle
Theme of Grandia is generic but listenable, Zenithian Castle is pretty good.
Super Robot Wars (general) - Ace Attacker v Unlimited Saga – “BT Ultimate”
Ace Attacker isn't a particular favorite (usually - my opinion of it is pretty fluid), but it's solid enough to win this.

Phantasy Star Universe - Mizuraki C.D. v Ar tonelico - EXEC_CHRONICLE_KEY/.
Both do what they're trying to do pretty well.
Chrono Cross: Star-Stealing Girl v Tales of the Abyss: Crimson Pride
Eh, neither one's particularly special, and Crimson Pride has more atmosphere.
Secret of Mana ~ Distant Thunder v Skies of Arcadia - Ixa'Taka
I like SoM music well enough, but...Distant Thunder?
Final Fantasy IX - Eternal Harvest v Final Fantasy X - A Truth Revealed
Eternal Harvest's first half is pretty darn good, while the only thing A Truth Revealed has going for it is the Zanarkand coda that other songs use better.

Chrono Cross: Star-Stealing Girl v Tales of the Abyss: Crimson Pride - Scruboff, and Crimson Pride is closer to my type of music despite never actually doing anything.

Shadow Hearts: Covenant - The Fate  ~ Cluster Amaryllis v Soul Nomad: Requiem of Gemini: ... hmm. Yeah. Both tracks seem to be trying to be more epic than they can actually manage, but today, the SN one is doing more for me.
Secret of Mana ~ Angel's Fear/Fear of the Heavens v Final Fantasy VII - Aeris' Theme: Not sure anything from SoM could beat the poorly-titled Aeris' Theme.
Grandia: Theme of Grandia v Dragon Quest 4r- Zenithian Castle: G1 OST is generally horrible. Zenithian Castle is at least pleasant to listen to. (Note: I am assuming Theme of Grandia is the title music, I'll give it a listen if it's something else.)
Super Robot Wars (general) - Ace Attacker v Unlimited Saga – “BT Ultimate”: AA isn't one of my favourite SRW tracks, but the US track sounds like mediocre Xenosaga music.

Phantasy Star Universe - Mizuraki C.D. v Ar tonelico - EXEC_CHRONICLE_KEY/.: Not an impresive matchup. I'm not being nearly as impressed with the putfile links this time as I was last.
Chrono Cross: Star-Stealing Girl v Tales of the Abyss: Crimson Pride: Okay, maybe pool 3 in general is just underwhelming. Crimson Pride's at least a bit above average, SSG is trying to be a XG track I forget the name of which isn't very good to begin with.
Secret of Mana ~ Distant Thunder v Skies of Arcadia - Ixa'Taka: Distant Thunder sucks. Ixa'Taka is decent-ish, though still SoA music.
Final Fantasy IX - Eternal Harvest v Final Fantasy X - A Truth Revealed: I like Eternal Harvest, but this isn't fair. Gooo smash this pool.

Shadow Hearts: Covenant - The Fate  ~ Cluster Amaryllis v Soul Nomad: Requiem of Gemini: Damn you, Hatbot! Both of these should be making it to the final rounds. Anyway, going with what I expect to be the underdog.
Secret of Mana ~ Angel's Fear/Fear of the Heavens v Final Fantasy VII - Aeris' Theme: The SoM track isn't bad, but it's really hard to top its competition here.
Grandia: Theme of Grandia v Dragon Quest 4r- Zenithian Castle
Super Robot Wars (general) - Ace Attacker v Unlimited Saga – “BT Ultimate”: Uh, I don't really like either, so this'll do. BT1 would've totally won this, though.

Phantasy Star Universe - Mizuraki C.D. v Ar tonelico - EXEC_CHRONICLE_KEY/: Gust music doesn't often catch my interest, and the PSU track is decent enough.
Chrono Cross: Star-Stealing Girl v Tales of the Abyss: Crimson Pride: Another match that makes me die inside. Both tracks are godlike.
Secret of Mana ~ Distant Thunder v Skies of Arcadia - Ixa'Taka
Final Fantasy IX - Eternal Harvest v Final Fantasy X - A Truth Revealed: FFIX music is generally unspecial. This track is better than most, though! So I might change this later.

Chrono Cross: Star-Stealing Girl v Tales of the Abyss: Crimson Pride - Tough one.
Secret of Mana ~ Distant Thunder v Skies of Arcadia - Ixa'Taka - Doesn't have bad snare synth.
Final Fantasy IX - Eternal Harvest v Final Fantasy X - A Truth Revealed - Eternal Harvest is one of FF9's best tracks.  A Truth Revealed is good, but not good enough, I think.

Phantasy Star Universe - Mizuraki C.D. v Ar tonelico - EXEC_CHRONICLE_KEY/. - what. This did NOT need to be in the first round. Ye gods, it's like Rock'n Rocks and Land of Demons all over again.

Secret of Mana ~ Distant Thunder v Skies of Arcadia - Ixa'Taka -Oi. I'd actually vote Distant Thunder over quite a few things, but not over Ixa'Taka. Ixa'Taka is pure goodness.

Shadow Hearts: Covenant - The Fate  ~ Cluster Amaryllis v Soul Nomad: Requiem of Gemini - Requiem of Gemini is good.  But The Fate owns.  Badass imagery still sticks in my head, and that's...well, good.
Secret of Mana ~ Angel's Fear/Fear of the Heavens v Final Fantasy VII - Aeris' Theme - Aerith's Theme is...full-feeling.  Angel's Fear is a bit...I don't know.  Similar, but less full. 
Grandia: Theme of Grandia v Dragon Quest 4r- Zenithian Castle - Iconic vs. forgettable.
Super Robot Wars (general) - Ace Attacker v Unlimited Saga – “BT Ultimate” - ...well fuck.  If there's one thing that doesn't suck about Unlimited Suka, it's the music.  BT Ultimate starts out slow, but is quick enough to jump into the neat part.

Phantasy Star Universe - Mizuraki C.D. v Ar tonelico - EXEC_CHRONICLE_KEY/. - Don't like this particular AT song much.  PSU is weakish as a game, but the music isn't horrid.
Chrono Cross: Star-Stealing Girl v Tales of the Abyss: Crimson Pride - Van is hot.  Otherwise, I just like this dungeon theme a bunch.  It's not as good as Survival from the Force, but it captures epic well enough. 
Secret of Mana ~ Distant Thunder v Skies of Arcadia - Ixa'Taka - Fun song.
Final Fantasy IX - Eternal Harvest v Final Fantasy X - A Truth Revealed - I...don't know.  I just like this one better.

Secret of Mana ~ Angel's Fear/Fear of the Heavens v Final Fantasy VII - Aeris' Theme - They're both great; voting for the underdog.
Grandia: Theme of Grandia v Dragon Quest 4r- Zenithian Castle - The Grandia Theme is cheesy fun that grows on you.  That's better than pretty much all DQ music, except for maybe some of the better orchestrations in 8.
Super Robot Wars (general) - Ace Attacker v Unlimited Saga – “BT Ultimate” -They're both nice.

Phantasy Star Universe - Mizuraki C.D. v Ar tonelico - EXEC_CHRONICLE_KEY/.  - I like the start of Chronicle Key, but it gets lost in the second half.  Same with Mizuraki's first half, but it only feels a bit repetitive in its second half.  Close.
Chrono Cross: Star-Stealing Girl v Tales of the Abyss: Crimson Pride - I like TotA's soundtrack, but Crimson Pride is only okay.  SSG is one of the best songs in CC.
Secret of Mana ~ Distant Thunder v Skies of Arcadia - Ixa'Taka - Easy.
Final Fantasy IX - Eternal Harvest v Final Fantasy X - A Truth Revealed - Also easy, even if the in-game use of Eternal Harvest is eh.

Shadow Hearts: Covenant - The Fate  ~ Cluster Amaryllis v Soul Nomad: Requiem of Gemini - Cluster... It sounds fair enough, but it doesn't seem like the sort of thing I'd open up to listen to in general; it feels like it's missing things. Gemini sounds a tad better and doesn't have that problem.
Secret of Mana ~ Angel's Fear/Fear of the Heavens v Final Fantasy VII - Aeris' Theme - Wow, I never expected SoM to have anything of that calibre. Unlucky matchup for it though.
Grandia: Theme of Grandia v Dragon Quest 4r- Zenithian Castle - Both pieces are wholly uninspiring. Grandia gets the win for being more upbeat.
Super Robot Wars (general) - Ace Attacker v Unlimited Saga – “BT Ultimate” - I see no room for doubt here.

Phantasy Star Universe - Mizuraki C.D. v Ar tonelico - EXEC_CHRONICLE_KEY/. - Decent vocals take this.
Chrono Cross: Star-Stealing Girl v Tales of the Abyss: Crimson Pride - Both pretty good here. Crimson is taking this for lack of SSG's vocals.
Secret of Mana ~ Distant Thunder v Skies of Arcadia - Ixa'Taka - And straight into a matchup of lamery. Going for distant thunder mostly because I don't like tribal-ish themed things.
Final Fantasy IX - Eternal Harvest v Final Fantasy X - A Truth Revealed - Oh my god FFX does in fact have some passable music it must be a miracle. Not something I'd go out of my way to listen to, but a damn sight better than Harvest.

Neither of them are that good, but at least Requiem of Gemini is the good sort of generic, whereas The Fate is just boring except possibly for one section in the middle that's far too short.

Secret of Mana ~ Angel's Fear/Fear of the Heavens v Final Fantasy VII - Aeris' Theme
I'm fond of one, the other I preferred when it was Celes' Theme, and before it got horribly overplayed.

Grandia: Theme of Grandia v Dragon Quest 4r- Zenithian Castle
Neither of these is worthy of continueing.  As one must, though, my vote goes to the one that reminds me of the good DW castle music from the first game, instead of the one that reminds me of Justin, Rapp, and Guido.

Super Robot Wars (general) - Ace Attacker v Unlimited Saga – “BT Ultimate”
Yeah...  another weak pairing.  No real comments other than a big meh to Ultimate.


Phantasy Star Universe - Mizuraki C.D. v Ar tonelico - EXEC_CHRONICLE_KEY/.
I will say this, when Ar Tonelico is on the ball for music, it's pretty good.  Mizuraki, on the other hand, falls flat despite being in a style I typically enjoy.

Better than Star Stealing Girl.

Secret of Mana ~ Distant Thunder v Skies of Arcadia - Ixa'Taka
I don't like Ixa'Taka that much.  On the other hand, I loathe Distant Thunder, so I suppose it's all good.  I mean...  it's not like we have good music facing off against good music in the first round, right?

Final Fantasy IX - Eternal Harvest v Final Fantasy X - A Truth Revealed
I honestly like the style of Eternal Harvest, and in pretty much any other matchup (barring against Ar Tonelico) in this pool, it'd be an easy win.  But I also have a fondness for A Truth Revealed, and so there goes my vote.  Just, the emotion in the music, paired with how it was used in game makes for a winning combo.

Secret of Mana ~ Distant Thunder v Skies of Arcadia - Ixa'Taka: This match fails.  At least the latter is kind of unique or something? Distant Thunder remains only memorable to me for having played SoM numerous times.
Final Fantasy IX - Eternal Harvest v Final Fantasy X - A Truth Revealed: The Too Zanarkand melody, and most variations of it, I haven't really been too fond of, honestly (at least, those in FFX itself.)  Truth Revealed is no exception.
