Alright, Putfile is still undergoing maintenance so we're continuing with the imeem experiment, with one minor change.  Since a lot of these songs are asking to login in order to listen, I made a second imeem account with a 10 minute mail address for y'all to use to listen.  If the link prompts you to login, you can use username "c863880@bsnow.net" and the password "Password".  I'm not sure how well it'll take more than one person being logged in at a time, though, so let me know if you see problems.  Pools 11 and 12 will close at midnight EST on Friday, April 10.

So.  Snowfire apparently had the wrong name for the song he wanted from G3 AND the actual song wasn't on the soundtrack, and the one I thought he was referring to was incorrect, so I've replaced the G3 track in the failure bracket.  I personally think this song's better than the one it's replacing but my taste in music is known to be strange. <_<

Since Putfile has been non-functional for a couple days now, for pools 9 and 10 I am trying Lance's suggestion and using imeem instead.  Note that if you just click the link and let the songs play it will switch you to a different song when it finishes.  If you want to avoid this, there will be a checkbox near the player on the page marked auto suggest, uncheck that box and when the song ends you'll stay on the same page.  If there are any problems with imeem please let me know.  Pools 9 and 10 will close at midnight EST, Wednesday, April 8.

EDIT: I have replaced the link to Premonition to avoid the login issue, if anyone sees another link that requests a login to listen please let me know and I'll fix those too.  I wasn't able to get Parade working through imeem but I put in a link to download just that song if the rest are working for you and you don't want to download the whole pool for just one song.

Music Tournament / Music Tournament of DOOM Vol. 2 ~Nominations~
« on: March 06, 2009, 11:04:47 PM »
Alright, it's time for yet another Video Game Music Tournament.  This run will be focusing on music as heard in-game, with a couple little sub-tournaments for Anime and Worst of the Worst if interest permits.  The rules for noms are pretty much the same(and shamelessly ripped off and slightly adjusted from our esteemed Vice President's last topic):

1. You can have a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 20 nominations. Order your lists in numeric order (1 is highest priority, 20 the lowest). If there's no numeric order I'll just give the tracks at the top of the list priority.

2. You may edit your list at any time to add/remove/change tracks.

3. Any piece of music that is a game theme is eligible. If the music track is not played in a game, it is not eligible. Please include the game of origin in parentheses with your nomination.

4. The contest is not restricted to, nor does it favor RPGs over any other genre.

5. I will provide listening links in the tournament topics, just like last time. If I'm completely unable to find the track, the nomination will be omitted. To avoid this possibility since I'm not quite as good at finding these things as Tonfa, feel free to put in a link to the track, send it to me over IRC, or just upload it yourself and post that link.  I'll try and get ahold of you if I can't find something myself.

6. In addition to the main tournament, you may nominate up to five songs each for both the Anime and Failure brackets.  The same rules apply for Failure songs as normal noms, and Anime music can be any song actually used in an Anime series or movie, preferably actually written for the series in question and not borrowed from another source.

7. The four songs that made it to the Semifinals of CK's original tournament are NOT eligible for nomination for this tournament, I have plans for them after this tournament is complete.  Those four songs are:

Digital Devil Saga 2: Divine Identity
Ys Origin - -Bonus track- GENESIS BEYOND THE BEGINNING
Romancing SaGa: Calling an Awakening Memory -The Battle with Schirach-
Final Fantasy X: Someday the Dream Will End

Assuming we have enough nominations, the noms phase will end Friday, March 20, and brackets will be up that weekend.  Good luck to all who participate and enjoy the music!

Music Tournament / Another music tournament?
« on: February 16, 2009, 02:03:23 AM »
I've been considering running the next one of these, assuming nobody else jumps in first.  Not planning to do it for a while, but I'm wondering a few things.

One, what type of music?  I was figuring I'd just do another straight game music tourney since it's been about a year since the last one, but if anyone has other ideas I'd like to hear them.  I was also considering running a sort of mini-tourney of anime music alongside it, maybe like one match per pool of the main tournament, since there's some good music there but not enough of us really watch enough anime for a full tournament of it.  Thoughts?

Two, I was considering removing the top four or eight songs from CK's run from contention and then doing some sort of match up between those and the top group from this one near the end.  Possibly round robin style or something, I haven't decided yet.  This way we definitely get new blood through the whole thing but still give the top group a chance to shine at the end, and a way to see how tastes have changed.  Good idea?  Bad idea?

Third and probably most important, I've noticed a rather large decline of interest over the course of a tournament so large over the course of the whole thing for the two others.  Some of that is inevitable, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about how to keep things fresh over the months it would take to run it.  Should I record myself failing at Audiosurf to the music?  Run some sort of contest?  I only have a couple ideas so far and I could use more.

Oh, and one other thing.  There's been people whose abrasive comments about the songs that make it to latter rounds in the other tournaments have kinda turned people off the whole thing.  I'd rather like to discourage that, but I can't exactly censor what people decide to post either.  If anyone has suggestions on ways to encourage playing up your favorites instead of bashing the songs you don't personally like, I'd love to hear those as well.

So, questions?  Comments?  Concerns?  Feedback is greatly encouraged here, I want this to be enjoyable for everyone.

RPGDL Discussion / Wave Science Lecture #3 (Minor Ar Tonelico/AT2 spoilers)
« on: December 15, 2008, 09:55:08 PM »

Hi everyone, my name is Frelia! Since big sis and Jacqli are busy fighting over who gets to host this corner right now, I'll be in charge of today's Wave Science Lecture. Today's lesson is going to be about the anatomy of Revatails(RTs).

But before we start on that, let me explain what a Song Stone is. Song Stones contain two components, Grasno and Parameno. Parameno is sensitive and responds to Dynamic H Waves, reacting to them by releasing energy to the Grasno portion. Grasno creates Dynamic D Waves in itself when its original D waves are disrupted by this outside energy. When the Dynamic D Waves reach the limit of Grasno's ability to contain them, the Dynamic waves are released from the Grasno and cause physical changes in the surroundings. Remember this carefully, it will come up again later.

So, on to the Revatails.  For today's lesson, we'll focus specifically on the Beta Pure Blood Type, the most basic RT type. RTs in general are actually a much simpler life form than the average human despite having a physically similar body and organs. They were created under the concept of simplicity to improve efficiency. Average humans are constructed out of 7 types of waves, with D and H waves being the main wave component. The RTs, however, are built with only D and H waves. Thus they have a far less complicated body and psyche that can be easily utilized to its maximum capability. One example would be the function of the brain; although human brains are said to be complicated and potentially very powerful, over half of their capacity is left undeveloped in the average human. On the other hand, RTs have no such problem due to their simple wave composition.  Their brain functions are constantly maximized.

The RTs are made from what we called Spectrum Heredity, an aggregation of Dynamic H Waves that are held within a certain spectrum. This aggregation of Dynamic H Waves would then form a regular tetrahedron that we called the Core Triangular Ring. The Core Triangular Ring produces the Fundamental Psychic Frequency under a very specific clock timing, which would become the base of an RTs's Static H Wave FFT Spectrum*.

Then, specific Parameno and Grasno compounds are added to the surrounding of the Core Triangular Ring to produce a body. These Parameno and Grasno compounds, like Hymnos Crystals, contain a perfect wave balance that will prevent them from shifting to other materials.  This is to ensure that the RT's body won't just change into something else due to all the different waves processing inside them. Now, if you'll recall the Song Stone mentioned earlier, the compounds in the RT's body behave exactly the same way, reacting to Dynamic H Waves and producing Dynamic D Waves. In the case of an RT's body, the Parameno compound reacts specifically to the Dynamic H Wave released from the Core Triangular Ring, and causes the Grasno Compound to release Dynamic D Waves that will specifically construct the RT body.

Since RT's bodies are completely dependent on the the Dynamic H Waves produced from the Core Triangular Ring, their bodies will never grow old as long as the Core Triangular Ring remains functional. The Core Triangular Ring gradually and slowly releases Dynamic H Waves beginning from the RT's birth, which would results in physical and mental growth equal to that of an average human being. These Dynamic D Waves that are specifically in charge of growth are contained within the hexagonal hinges of the Core Triangular Ring, and they slowly diminish as the RT grows, being fully consumed when the RT reaches the age of 18. This means that a RT would not age past 18 until they reach the functional limit of their Core Triangular Ring. For an average Beta Pure Type, the functional limit of their Core Triangular Ring would be 150 years.

This will be all for today's lecture. We'll save the complicated difference between Revatail Origins and Third Generations for the next time.  I hope big sis and Jacqli will be done fighting soon, having to do this corner alone would be so exhausting! Perhaps I should ask Ensha to help out too...

*The FFT Spectrum is a special wave spectrum that displays the spectrum, domain, and time axis of waves, their changes and exchanges in a 3 dimensional fashion. There is also an Omega Spectrum that gives a 4 dimensional display of the above information based on delta time unit.

RPGDL Discussion / Wave Science Lecture #2 (Minor Ar Tonelico/AT2 Spoilers)
« on: November 13, 2008, 09:51:05 PM »

Welcome back to the Wave Science Lecture.  I'll be in charge of today's lesson in place of Shurelia. Hmph, how foolish of her, thinking she could do this without me noticing.
Hm? Who am I? Go look it up for yourself. Now, let's get started.

Today's topic is the Hymnos Wave (H Wave), the wave of minds and life. H Waves are astral waves, quite different from D Waves which are ether waves, thus they contain much less physical property. H Waves are, however, similar to the D Waves in that they are also divided between static and dynamic waves. Static H Waves are immobile waves that form life energy, soul, and personal will, which would be the Cosmosphere. Dynamic H Waves are constantly radiating waves that compose thoughts and emotions, which means they create brain waves, voices and other things with invisible properties.

All life forms are capable of exerting Dynamic H Waves through their organs and expressions. Human ears are capable of receiving Dynamic H Waves with frequencies between 1Hz to 20kHz as voices, but almost all Dynamic H Wave produced by life forms contain frequencies ranging higher than this, which compose emotions and the thoughts of a person. The stronger the emotion, the higher the wavelength. As we are lacking physical organs to receive them, we can only use our own Static H Waves as receptors, which would be "feeling it in our souls" as some people put it. These higher frequencies are attached to many physical objects as well.  For example, the emotions that people feel when they read a book or view a painting are actually the Static H Wave of the person being affected by the Dynamic H Waves contained in that particular object. When our own Static H Waves make contact with outside Dynamic H Waves, they will ripple and form Dynamic H Waves as well, which causes us to change our minds or causes changes in the emotions we're feeling, and can lead to inspirations as well. This is basically how Revatails can learn their new Hymnos Words through diving, but we'll save the details on that for another time.

This will be all for today's lesson, come back next time for more details on the anatomy of Revatails, or possibly the origin of the universe if you like. Heh heh... it seems this corner can be dragged on for a good while, I am certainly not letting Shurelia have this corner back easily now...

Note:  The editing done was at Niu's request that words that were part of the Hymmnos and changed in the English version be reverted to their original spelling.

I'd mention this in chat, but I'm at work and knowing me I'll forget before I get home.  I was going to check if Fact Center 4 had been put up yet, and when I got the error screen saying that the page couldn't be found, I went to click on the forum link so I could come back here and ended up at the old forums instead.  The link apparently never got updated on the error page or something.  Also, consider this a reminder that the Fact Center needs to go up.

Writeup Graveyard / Lassic (vs. Ted)

Lassic is an ancient evil, having existed as a facet of the Profound Darkness' power for literally thousands of years in the Algo system.  Now, in the DL arena, he faces off with another man who has lived for an unusually long time.  However, as Ted has only lived a paltry few hundred years, Lassic still holds a massive edge in experience, and this isn't the only advantage the evil King holds over his seemingly young opponent.  Against Lassic's tremendous durability, even the power of Judgement won't be enough to force him to yield, and the powerful swings of Lassic's Thunder Halberd will cause incredible damage to the physically frail mage.  Soon the Heavy title will be in his grasp, and he will be able to fight in his rightful division, Godlike.
