Should results be optional? IE if there isn't a writeup and no one's interested, we leave it blank.

Yes, leave it blank.

Make results page comments optional?
« on: January 11, 2010, 02:58:56 PM »
One of the things that got talked about fairly in depth was reducing the amount of writing we're doing. One way is to cut down the results page writing, which is largely painful when you're averaging one-two voter comments a week.

I voted yes. Results is cool when you have to say one-two a week, not a dozen.

Yep. Keep a missing comments forum so that writers can submit one if they feel up to it, but it's no longer mandatory. Keep the on-site comments obviously. Seems simple.

Works for me. If I feel inspired (I am on occasion) this provides an outlet, but mandating them at this point is... yeah, no.

Since this seems to be go, I do need to ask something real quick.

Should this take effect at the end of the season or mid-season? I'm okay with either way, but if Tai/Gate want to cut out on getting everything filled mid-season instead of waiting to the end it's a lot more sensible for me to as well.

(Myself I'd probably outright stop writing results the moment it passes either way, for at least a few months. I need a true vacation, cutting down on writing stuff doesn't cut it for me, for whatever reason.)

My first feeling is that it looks more professional if we wait until the end of the season before making a change like this, but honestly, your opinion the matter is by far the most important, Sage, so it's fundamentally your call and I'll support whatever you deem best.

In response to Sage's question, definitely agree with NEB there.  Would really like to see it wait until the end of the season but if it can't be done, that's cool.

While I'm posting, might as well say I'm in favor of this idea as well.

This is still open for voting and comments, but for now I am going on the assumption that we are stopping mandatory missing comments as of the end of this season. Thanks to everyone who voted.
