2) While some point to events 1000 years ago, for me this all started with my grandfather.
3) Who knows how things might have turned out if he married somebody else.

Sean from PS3

1) Nothing points to age, but I do recall one of the four heirs being oddly young. EDIT: Also, all the heros are really young compared to the thousand year old bots they're running around with.
2) Takes place on a worldship that fled Palm a thousand years before. Of course, as the third generation, this story starts with his grandfather Rhys.
3) The big clue, the story changes depending on who the main character marries.
4) Sean's path has the Neo Palm come along after the final battle with an offer of assistance against Dark Force. Realizing this, they instead offer to come along and chip in when the next Millenium comes around.

I played the first generation once, about six years ago, back when I was in this will play every FF, DQ, and PS kick. Oddly enough, that kick ended around the same time I stopped playing PS3.
