Because you asked for it!  ^_^

So, we're hosting again this year.  Pacifica-San Fran area of CA.  I imagine it'll go much like 2 years ago was supposed to go with me doing the shuttling and getting a place secured (this time making sure there are no snags, grrr) and Gate doing the actual hosting (because I won't be required to spend every waking moment there this year >_>).  Don't get me wrong, I adore you crazy people, but I'm not a social critter and that was about my limit.  *grin*

I'll leave it open that, if it happens in July, odds are I'm not making it period. I can't take my work vacation time that month due to half the people in my sector picking up their vacations. Even -really early- August would quite possibly work, though, and I'd be able to negotiate that time at least three months in advance. Of course, this is assuming my job doesn't shift in any way throughout the next year.

I may go depending on funds, whether or not I get into JET/Reach/Whatever else and the con coincides with my departure date, and, of course, how moody I feel toward you wankers next year.

I am planning on going again this time (although again I really shouldn't, but fuck it I might buy a broken console again and not give it away again).  Whenever is good works best.  Early August is always good though.

This year will probably be difficult to negotiate for me, only because of the unknown world of where I'm going come residency being over.  My residency is done July 13th or so (somewhere around there).  Since I don't know where I'm going after that (and am at the Mercy of the Girlfriend for half of that), I am a little in the unknown.  However, since I am switching jobs, I do have a negotiable start date.  After the week of July 13th to before mid-late August would be ideal for me.

Tentatively in barring financial breakdown, would prefer sometime other than the last weekend of July/first day of August because that's Otakon weekend.

Now... how badly do I need to save this college refund money for further schooling...

Probably get a job during holiday break anyways, so maybe I'll save up enough there.

In as long as it's not during the school year, which doesn't seem likely (July and August are both guaranteed to be outside it here).

Renting a house would be fine, let's just make sure to talk it out with the people who own the house a bit better beforehand this time so we don't get nearly screwed like DLC3 :F

Travelling tickets and passport shenanigans for -nearly all the involved- alone would make DLCon Japan prohibitively onerous. You already knew that, though.

I think we're more likely to see a DLC Vancouver than a DLC Japan.  And even that's not likely to happen ever thanks to the international issue.  I mean, while there are a lot of people not in the US, it's still a pretty solid majority, and crossing borders is a hassel.

That said, I'm not picky about timing, and should be good with whenever.  If that changes, then I'll let you all know.

Probably in, but next year's going to be crazy--it wouldn't surprise me if I will have exhausted my vacation days, in which case I would be in for the weekend only.

Well, yeah, but I'd say Japan has a lot more influence on RPGs than Canada. I thought there might already be some general interest in a trip to Japan for some people, and a DLCon is a good excuse to do it with a bunch of people who would enjoy it for similar reasons.

Also, it's cheaper to crash at my place for a week than a Japanese hotel/ryoukan for a week, trust me. Taking out that expense alone decreases the cost significantly. But I wasn't expecting a full DLCon Japan... maybe more like a DL Mini-meet Japan if anyone can swing it?

Well, yeah, but I'd say Japan has a lot more influence on RPGs than Canada.
To be fair, Canada has had a lot more influence on the running of the DL than Japan.  I'm Canadian and was hosting the DL in Canada when it started.  Elfboy's Canadian.  Excal's Canadian (he was more central in the early days; I believe he was the only editor/writer during some of the weeks in season 1).  RC's Canadian (he's gone now because he tried to take over and run the DL solo, and failed, but before that he was probably the DL's single strongest personality who got the most work done).

Not that the DL didn't have American influence at the time (OK, Super, Poppy) but, I mean, it's noteworthy that we still spell duelling with two l's (the Canadian way).

I would definitely not go to Japan, I'd rather have Aussie DLC or British DLC if it came to it myself. Since I live in Vancouver obviously DLC Vancouver would be fine with me and possibly even would help host it.

Andrew and I are 90% there.

Mitigating factors:

1) We both are lukewarm about our jobs and our lease is up May 13th or so. If it swings okay, we wouldn't mind moving somewhere else. Still love the Bay Area, so we'll likely be around. If we did move, though, we'd likely be too poor to get back for DLC. Vey small possibility of anything being different but thought I'd throw it in there because it is a possibility.

2) We ARE going to ComicCon next year. That's July 22-25. If DLC is that weekend, we won't be able to make it. We've been meaning to go for a few years now, so fuck all if we're going to miss it yet again. >_>

3) We might be going to GenCon in Indianapolis, too, August 5-8. That's a bit more tentative, though, since... yeah. Indianapolis. <_<

Otherwise... thumbs up on the beach house arrangement. Andrew and I might be able to do a bit of shuttling if we're still in the area, too, because we now have a car, hooray~

Hmm, just a quick look at flights from San Francisco to Tokyo/Sydney/London:

England: $1300 (best deal) $1400 (average deal), 12 hours
Japan: $900 (best deal) $1900 (average deal), 14 hours
Australia: $1400 (best deal) $1500 (average deal), 17 hours

From Vancouver, England will be shorter and cheaper.  Japan might be shorter/cheaper from Vancouver but I'm not sure.  Australia is probably more expensive.

If we're doing a crazy overseas location, I'd vote for one in the Northern Hemisphere.  Cutlural experience aside, the airfare is just going to be cheaper/shorter.  Although...hold that thought, let me look up Rio...

Brazil: $900 (best deal) $1100 (average deal), 15 hours

Hmmmmm...other than the complete lack of direct flights, that's actually not bad from North America, and it probably saves Grefter...*does some research*...okay no, flight routes between Australia and Brazil suck, and are longer and more expensive than Australia to San Francisco.
