Once a member of the Lionel Holy Knights, Beowulf was branded a heretic by a jealous High Priest, who transformed his beloved Reis into a dragon. He then left to become a monster hunter, using his skills as a Temple Knight to search for the missing Reis. Travelling with his fellow heretic Ramza Beoulve, he managed to find her in the Colliery beneath Goland and used the power of the Holy Stone to restore her to human form. Afterwards, the two of them joined Ramza's quest.

Beowulf's Magic Sword techniques give him an impressive array of status spells to draw upon, as well as the Drain and Shock! techniques to inflict damage. These have served him well in the Duelling League, although he has had problems with status immune bosses and magically resilient Falcon Knights.
