A birdman isn't what usually comes to mind when you think of damsels in distress, but then Shining Force isn't your ordinary game! Turned into stone by the dark wizard Darksol when he tried to protect the Shade Abbey from Darksol's foul clutches, only to be used to lure the Shining Force into a trap. Luckily, Max's troops were able to fight off the forces sent to kill them and rescued Balbaroy, who gratefully lent his sword to the Shining cause.
