Seek and Destroy

"Paladins... the masters of light. Traitors and fools, all of them!"

Gares's words rang across his empty room, shadows bouncing away from his voice. "Cecil dared raise his blade against a Queen, and now he allies himself with this Seth? He'll pay. They'll both pay."

"Yes, I believe that will do for today," said Seth as he sheathed his Silver Sword. "Good practice. Same time tomorrow?"

Cecil nodded. As the two men clasped arms, evil laughter shook the room.

"This training room shall be your grave!" before of the Paladins stood Gares... or, more accurately, ten Gareses. "Master Gares gave us a challenge. We're to fight you one by one till you fall. The earth must be purged of filth such as you!"

There was no response save the whooshing of drawn swords. Ragnarok shone, and the Paladins charged.

  • Gares' armors are too much for the Paladins to handle
  • Cecil and Seth overcome Gares's trap

Cecil stared down the large number of dark knights, axes dripping with blood, eyes burning with chaos. Seth stood close by, his horse growing anxious with anticipation.

The clones started walking forward, intent on pushing their numerical advantage straight through. Axes in hand, they raised them up in the air, ready to fight the two outnumbered Paladins.

Cecil opened his mouth as the clones approached: "You shall not win this fight!" he yelled, his voice of righteousness causing the clones to pause in their tracks.

Seth joined in: "Even if my life is forfeit, my spirit shall live on!"

Laughing in unison, thus spoke the Gares clones in harmony (or disharmony, I suppose...not like the things can really carry a sense of pitch): "There is nothing you can do to win this fight, foolish Paladins! There's not one place where you will hold the advantage against us!"

Seth and Cecil looked at each, and smiled: they knew exactly the place. Speaking up, Cecil said, "Really? Then perhaps you'd like to take us up on that offer? You do have the advantage in numbers, after all"

The clones looked at each other, grinned evilly, and began laughing once more. "Try it, and die regardless!"

Gares Five knelt down, crying. Gares Two was in the bushes, regurgitating what remained of his breakfast. Gares Ten was curled up in a fetal position, repeatedly saying "No...no...cannot be....bunnies...eat...people..."

The remainder of the Gares clones were backing away, cringing in fear at the site before them: bunnies. Floppy, hoppy, bunnies. In particular, one wearing very heavy armour on foot, the other on a larger, 4-legged bunny with a longer than normal tail. All around, choruses of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Once More With Feeling song "Bunnies" rang out loud and clear in the arena:

"Bunnies aren't just cute like everybody supposes
They got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses
And what's with all the carrots?
What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?
Bunnies, bunnies
It must be bunnies"

The clones were backed into a corner, crying and screaming for the torture to stop. "Had enough?" Seth asked the sad bunch.

All in unison, the clones said, "Yes! Stop this madness! Please! Save us the insanity!"

Cecil and Seth looked at each other, laughed, sheathed their blades, and turned away, leaving the clones to cry together for a little longer.

There are a lot of things that can scar a person forever, usually ocurring in the first 6-8 years of development. Abandonment by parents, nightmares of situations one has experienced, etc. Combining the two, especially when your find your mother with your father, dressed as the Easter Bunny, can be totally mind-wracking. This has been your daily mental health bulletin. Have a nice day.
