Season 22, Week 4
Ghaleon
(Lunar Series)

Three-time champion Ghaleon is truly testing his mettle in this epic battle. The goddess Myria of Breath of Fire fame is undoubtedly one of Godlike's most formidable opponents in a duel - her options rival Ghaleon's own for sheer variety, and much like himself she possesses monstrous durability and a fearsome offense. But even though they both have variety, their combat strategies are very different - and Ghaleon's doublecasting is an insurmountable advantage to counter the speed difference. Add in the defensive might of Chaos Shield, which allows him to literally brush off even the worst of Myria's assault, and the Magic Emperor will prevail in what will undoubtedly be one of the most drawn-out slugfests in the history of Godlike.

Myria is making excellent headway towards her goal, the ever-coveted tite of Godlike Champion. Today she faces off against Godlike's perennial star, the Magic Emperor Ghaleon. But no matter his fame, ending Ghaleon's storied reign should be child's play for the powerful goddess. Myria will more than make up for Ghaleon's double-casting advantage with sheer speed, relentlessly striking her slow opponent with spell after spell. Ghaleon's only defensive magic, Chaos Shield, can be easily rendered useless by Myria's Sanctuary spell. And with the edge in both offense and defense, Myria will have this match under her control from the get-go. Ghaleon is about to learn the truth of the saying, "the bigger they are, the harder they fall."

"Hum.... are you sure this will work, sister?" asked a skeptical Myria. "That inventor's machine will work as specified?"

"Of course--she was quite willing to prove her superiority over that overhyped Lexis. Supposedly it was one of her first creations, that she made a few adjustments to."

Myria sighed to herself, then smiled. She still was not sure, but it was such a beautiful opportunity for mayhem. She found she had no further objections.

"Oh, of course I don't mean to harm him... just scare him. Consider it just desserts for what he did to you that one time."

"Ah, I don't know..." replied the gentle-hearted Luna.

"I'm not asking for much. Just a lease of your old outfit--and how much harm could I do with that little thing?"

The songstress nodded. "Okay, if you say it's karma..."

Edea smiled back. "Excellent. Good doing business with you."

Ghaleon strode into the arena with his characteristic swagger, mind filled with strategy and recently-practiced sword techniques. This would be his first true fight for well over a season, and he meant to be ready.

Unfortunately, he would soon learn that some things in life there is no preparing for.

Like having your clothes teleported off and replaced with--well, we're getting ahead of ourselves.

Ghaleon's opponent floated in the middle of the arena, holding to the form of the young girl. To the experienced warrior, this made sense--it meant she would not commit to one form or another until the battle formally began.

It also meant everything she said had an extra twist coming from the sweetly smiling mouth. "Why hello there, Magical Girl. Do you want to play with me?"

Ghaleon stiffened, but he was determined not to show his discomfort. If she thought she could throw him off his guard with just that, she had another thing coming. He drew his sword and pointed it at the giggling goddess. "Prepare yourself!"

But his opponent wasn't even looking at him. Instead, she seemed lost in thought. "Now, what should we play, what should we play?"

Was she still trying to mess with him? Was she hiding something? Ghaleon paused, but decided worrying wouldn't accomplish anything. Better to meet whatever she had in store head on--or he might as well just give up now. (Little did he know the second choice was the better option)

He leaped at her, sword at the ready. She ducked back from each slash, still with a dreamy look on her face. "What to play, what to play..."

Suddenly, she brightened, and jumped high into the air, out of reach. "I know!" Let's play dress-up!" She raised her hand imperiously to the sky and snapped her fingers.

It was like deja vu all over again for poor Ghaleon, as he found himself dressed in what seemed to be an exact replica of dark Althena's old costume. Shock turned to horror; this couldn't be happening! Not again! His opponent didn't even have time magic!

Myria, in fact, had made no move after the initial snapping of her fingers. "Tee hee. Nice thighs."

This was a dream. It had to be a dream. There was no other explanation. This was a terrible flashback.

He whirled around, at the stunned audience, and noticed with some gratification that they were not holding camcorders already. But even that comfort faded as those who had thought to bring them along (past matches being an indication of potential future need) rummaged in their bags for them.

"No...." he had to get away! Anywhere was better than exposed out on the arena floor.

And with that thought, the brave Ghaleon, veteran of countless battles, and near-peerless with magic or swordplay, fled as fast as he could, as far away as possible.

Somehow, he made it without being seen by anyone, but he kept running, ribbons falling off his hair and leaving a brightly colored trail behind.

He stopped quickly enough however, as he ran straight into a magical barrier.

"Ah, the premier of the Guild, magical emperor, how far you have fallen...." came a soft feminine voice from a shadowed corner.

"Who's there?!" he asked, startled.

"Is this a dream, or is this your painful reality? It is hard to tell, but I can give you one sure answer, if you wish..."

A hand reached out towards him. "This can all be just a bad nightmare, something that no one will ever know about."

This was probably a bad idea.... but Ghaleon didn't care anymore. He grasped the hand firmly, and Edea stepped out of the shadows.

He barely had enough time to grasp what he had just done, before everything went away...

Ghaleon: 24
Myria: 43

Pretty boys and magic girls alike have one thing which makes then so powerful; cuteness.
However, all things can be trumped. In this case, not even Ghaleon can top a little girl for raw adorability.
Now, little girls in turn have their weaknesses, but fortunately for Myria, Albedo's already been hospitalized this season. Of course, Myria could crush him like a bug anyway, but that's another matter entirely.
Either way, Ghaleon might want to sit this one out.

Okay, this is a foolish way to rate their comparative powers, but I'm going to look at the plot/story elements of their respective powers instead of the independant sources, despite how bad form this is.

Myria is a goddess- the original goddess of desire, sealed by the keys, herself and her spawn wreaking havoc on the world of Breath of Fire multiple times. She has the whole "repeat fiend" thing going for her. And you need special dragon powers to dispatch her in the first place, thus making her extra-hard to kill.

Ghaleon, Magic Emperor and Dragonmaster to the false Althena, extremely bad leader extraordinaire, servant to one god and the master of another, another one of the repeat villains you periodically find in role-playing games, finally seeking redemption at the hands of his adversaries by restoring their powers to do battle with the evil that blights the world of LUNAR. He bears the TITLE of Dragonmaster, but I don't think he actually has any of those nifty dragon powers that are so useful against Myria. Instead, he only has the powers of the two warring gods of LUNAR, Althena and Zophar, behind him. However, he *isn't* a god, himself. He's the elf with the really annoying voice that keeps on coming back to kick your ass.

So, the question is: Can the proxy of two gods defeat the body of one? Can Ghaleon defeat something that is like what gives him his extreme power? Can Myria shatter the bonds that tie Ghaleon to his gods and reduce him to the mortal that he originally was? Who will come out on top?

Ghaleon, despite not having dragon POWERS, of the kind that are necessary to destroy the goddess Myria, he DOES know how to harness the power of dragons. Maybe he understands a few things about what makes dragons so special when compared to Myria; Ghaleon might be one of the crappiest leaders, ever, but he's a demon when it comes to research. He plans, he plots, he prepares, and he doesn't try to bulldoze his way through things unless he's fairly sure he'll win... Unlike Myria.

If there's one thing Valkyrie Profile taught us, it's that mortals(or half-mortals) with godlike powers defeat gods due to the mortal's power to grow and learn from their experiences, as opposed to gods that remain static. I think Ghaleon is capable of defeating Myria, though I think it is likely to be a fairly close thing.
