Season 35, Week 5
Yuri Volte Hyuga
(Shadow Hearts Series)

Yuri's luck has been phenomenal these two seasons, and with one more battle left before a three-season break, Yuri's got nothing to lose. The Harmonixer's fusion arsenal are his greatest asset, and he'll need all of them to take down the Profound Darkness! Thankfully, the Profound Darkness's great weakness to Light will give Yuri's holier fusions more punch, so he'll be able to save his Seraphic Radiance for when it's most needed. Boasting full healing, Yuri can easily heal whatever's sent his way, and his renowned strengthening buffs will stall anything this ultimate evil tries. While The Profound Darkness may have powerful magical and physical blows, Yuri's fusions can protect him from the worst of it, and once he busts out his Seraphic Radiance form, it's all For Tomorrow, keeping him alive and tearing the Profound Darkness's tenuous hold on its corporeal form apart at the same time. While Duke Nukem Forever might never see the light of day, it's still appropriate to hail the king - the king of Godlike, Yuri Hygua, that is!

The original two-winged angel of death has finally reached what she has long deserved from this pathetic Dueling League: a Godlike final. Her opponent is none other than the Godslayer, Yuri Hyuga, champion of last season. And, sure, Yuri looks tough with his mighty strength, admirably demonic fusions and snazzy trenchcoat, but while he certainly can slay gods, can he step up to someone who orders dark gods around and around like playthings? Can he truly defeat the source of all evil in a one on one slugfest this season? Hardly. Profound Darkness is even more durable to attacks than the Harmonixer, and her many different attacks, including the devastating Megid, will be sure to hit the smart-mouthed Hyuga boy harder than he can stand - and so he'll fall over, moan a bit, and die, perhaps wriggling a bit for the amusement of the audience. Just like all the other mortals that have stood in the Profound Darkness's way, no? Darkness reigns this season as Profound Darkness will surely join its castmates in clinching a coveted RPGDL title.

Yuri didn't even show up for the match, in an odd twist of events.

It seems that, given either an afternoon brawling it out with one of the coldest woman-like things he could find - and quite possibly losing at it - or using all the money he had won thus far on Alice for a raucous evening, he did what any warm-blooded male with a dead girlfriend would do.

PD thus decided to just duel the rest of the arena herself.

She won, but officials are looking into Rika perhaps having given her some... boosts before the match.

Yuri Volte Hyuga: 33
Profound Darkness: 43

Profound Darkness has too much HP and too much damage for Yuri to take. Cancelling is just icing on the cake.

Yuri is on all accounts the master of his game- the one stat that he burns quickly he's got tons of, so it's not like he runs out of Sanity on a regular basis- and Sanity is the only (ONLY) price that Yuri has to pay in order to fuse, not even losing any precious time. He knocks baddies out with amazing displays of power, and if he really needs to replenish his Sanity, he can just use a few items to win the day. He's got the ability to make himself absurdly tough and to wallchange, to better take advantage of the weaknesses of any enemy he goes up against.

Here, Yuri can't use the Pure items to keep his Sanity, so he's got to ration it or go nuts. Still, Yuri has tons of the stuff. Only a long, drawn-out fight will be any danger to the Harmonixer.

The Profound Darkness has a very glaring weakness: Light attacks. The second-rarest element (for PCs, anyway) in his/her/its game is anathema to him/her/it. So, Yuri can capitolize on The Profound Darkness's weakness by using Light fusions.

The first choice is a low-rank fusion. Yuri will save the necessary sanity to last out the fight, and he'll have access to the light attacks that will hurt The Profound Darkness the most. The disadvantage is the loss in stats: Yuri might be able to capitolize on TPD's weaknesses, but he'll also be weak against TPD's strengths, so he's got to either do it quick or not at all. Low-End fusion is out.

A second-tier Light fusion is stronger than the earlier ones, but bears the same distinct disadvantages. It STILL doesn't have the stopping power necessary, and it ALSO burns more Sanity. If low-end is out, so is second-level.

So, third-tier Light fusion? The jump in power is tangible, as it the cost in Sanity. Yuri may as well skip this, because even though it is strong, it cost just a little less than more powerful fusions. Time to go for either Amon or Seraphic Radiance. But why would anyone choose Amon if you can pick Seraphic Radiance?

The Profound Darkness can just play a waiting game with Yuri, who loses sanity REALLY fast when in his more powerful fusions. Either Yuri won't have the power necessary or he will have the power necessary and he has to make it quick. Very, very quick. And every time he takes time out to heal himself, his Sanity continues to go down, until it runs out and Yuri stops being able to behave in a calculated manner, at which point The Profound Darkness can rely on Yuri making plenty of mistakes.

IF The Profound Darkness can last long enough to wait Yuri out, then The Profound Darkness can hit Yuri with strong attacks and not have to worry about Yuri healing himself. That's a big if, sure, but The Profound Darkness is pretty tough. I give Him/Her/It good odds.
