Season 41, Week 1
Guv
(Dragon Quest 8)

Everyone knows Yuna, the big bad summoner of Spira. Everyone knows about Anima, the Magus Three and Bahamut. But today people are gonna find out about a different kind of summoner. It's time for Guv to assert himself as the badass controller of overpowered monsters that he is! We're going to see an epic clash of the Triple Threat Team versus the Magus Three, then skirmishes like Shiva versus Talos and more. What this fight will come down to in the end is the two summoners, finally bereft of all their monsters. At that time Guv's ace in the hole will emerge. As Yuna, finally forced to fight on her own, prepares to cast Holy, she'll get a Dragon Soul to the face. Even if she can cancel out Call Team, Yuna can't do a thing about that.

Well, well, what have we here? Another "summoner" who thinks he's got what it takes to stand up against the greatest of summoner ever to grace the Dueling League? Well, Yuna's not the type to enjoy stepping on anyone's dreams, but while Call Team might be a neat trick, it's not even in the same class as Yuna's mighty aeons...and that's if she even needs them. With her ability to quickly cast a variety of mighty White magic spells, the Spiran summoner may well just beat this silent knight to the punch and nuke him with Holy before he can blink. Of course, it probably is easier to just let Anima handle everything, as usual. With as many options as she has in front of her, the only question about this match is how Yuna feels like winning it.

Do you know that one song?

Anything You Can Do?

Of course you do.

The parallels for this match are obvious.

Yuna has better monster pets.

Yuna has better damage. Yuna has more healing.

Yuna probably takes both kinds of attack better, between evasion and magical defense.

Yuna is faster.

Yuna has mastered the art of fanservice far better than Guv could ever hope to.

What possible advantage could Guv have ever had?

Well, Yuna has mastered the art of fanservice far better than Guv could ever hope to.

When you're a Toriyama character who bursts into yellow-haired golden-aura superpower occasionally, that is a fairly large positive. Guv may be somewhere under Bahamut's rear right now, but at least he has his dignity. Sort of.

Guv: 18
Yuna: 44
